My family loves tacos and they seem to be able to eat as many as I can make. I start with white corn tortillas, I fry them in halves, grate jack and cheddar cheese, cut up lettuce, hamburger and a taco spice packet. I put out sour cream, Herdez salsa and olives for a garnishes. It's simple and healthy. We went to a party once where the tacos were GREAT, they actually fried flour tortillas and it made huge tacos, they couldn't make them fast enough! How do you make tacos? maybe I can get some fresh ideas.

I buy the packaged taco shells. I like the Ortega brand. Then I brown some ground meat and add the taco seasoning packet. I shred some sharp cheese, lettuce and cut up some tomatoes. My husband and I also like to use some hot sauce on top of our tacos.

Yum, I love tomatoes, but no one else will eat them, so I don't even bother using one for just myself!

That's pretty much how we do our tacos too. We use hard and soft shells when it's taco night. Although, since I'm the only one who likes tomotoes, I don't usually get them. We don't put hot sauce on our tacos.

That's how I used to make them for my ex and I. I live alone now so it's a bit of a waste to have them when there's only one of me. I wish there was some way I could still have them. Yum,

I don't use the store bought seasoning mix. I make my own. Here is it if you want to try it sometime. 1 tbsp. chili powder 2 tsp. onion powder 1 tsp. each ground cumin, garlic powder, paprika, powdered oregano and sugar 1/2 tsp. salt Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl. Makes 3 tablespoons of seasoning mix, which is equal in strength to a 1/4 ounce package of commercial seasoning mix.

OKAY, Yum. Your recipe is now copy and pasted into MS word and saved as "taco seasoning", I think I have all those ingredients too, maybe not cumin, but it's easy enough to get. Thank you very much. I often wondered if I could make my own because I am sensitive to MSG, which a lot of pre made seasonings have. Thanks again!

My sister gets major headaches from MSG. She checks labels on everything. I like to make up a big bag of the seasoning , so I just have to spoon some out when I need some.

Actually, although I certainly have used them on occasion, I don't usually make tacos with a packaged seasonings either. I usually just put in some chili powder, a lot of cumin, a lot of garlic powder, and plenty of salt & pepper. Your recipe sounds excellent though! I will have to try it!

We love tacos here at our house too. I start out with flour tortillas, spread some re-fried beans on there and then cook the beef and add taco bell seasoning to it. When it's finished put the beef on the tortilla, add lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, olives, sour cream, guacamole, red sauce. Good and simple. Sometimes if I don't feel like eating beef, I just put some black beans on there instead of beef. It's really good.

I love black beans, we had them the first time in Mexico (Los Cabos) and now I always buy them.

Taco's are a MUST HAVE in our household. My husband is Mexican and my son is a Taco freak. We make a few different kinds of Taco's. The ones that you make are a lot like the ones my mother used to make and very similar to the ones I make as well. I dice up onions and let them cook in a very small amount of Canola Oil. Then I add ground hamburger and brown that until it's done. At the same time, I'm frying up corn tortillas in a pan of oil. I fold them in half to make the taco shape as they are cooking. We grate up jack and cheddar cheese. Chop lettuce and dice tomatoes. We always have sour cream and salsa out as well. When everything is done, we assemble our taco's and enjoy. Nom nom nom :) When I do not feel like cooking the shells to look like taco's, I will often make Tostada's instead. I do everything the same except I fry the corn tortillas flat like a tostada and we heat up refried beans to put on them when they are done before we add all of the other ingredients. (We just had this last night! Very yummy!) Another type of taco is the authentic Mexican style soft tacos. My husband will cook Carne Asada on the BBQ and then we chop it up and place into the middle of corn tortillas that have been heated up on the stove. (there are two ways, we use an old fashioned mexican style pan that is flat and heat the tortillas on both sides.. or place them in a plastic grocery bag and put into the microwave for about 2 minutes until soft and hot). After we place the meat in the tortilla, then we add homemade guacamole and salsa. They are addicting!! The last taco that I make is a family favorite. It's actually very weird but really delicious. My sister-in-law is the first one to introduce them to me and when you eat them, you just think they are "ok" but when you stop eating them.. about 1 hour later, you will be craving them! They are "Potato Taco's". You cook up mashed potatoes. Then you warm up corn tortillas in the microwave for about 2 minutes. Take the tortillas, place a little bit of mashed potatoes in the middle and then fold in half. Do this with as many tacos as you want to make. Then place each taco into a very hot pan of oil and fry until crispy. When they are done, take them out and place on a paper towel to drain. While they are still hot, you will want to place a slice of white Mexican cheese down into each taco. I buy a brand called Ranchero and it's located near the regular cheeses in the store. It's round in shape. After you are done frying all of the taco's... add shredded lettuce and tomatoes and Tapatio Salsa - then enjoy! I was coming home from work one day and pulled into my driveway. I was met by my son and about 4 of his friends - begging me to make them Potato Taco's. So I spent the next 2 hours making a ton of taco's for them and they ate ALL OF THEM! Taco's are very very yummy!

Wow, do you have a camera in my kitchen when I make tostadas and tacos. My son also LOVES tacos. If I want him to eat more, all I have to do is make them. Potato tacos! That would be a good way to use my leftover mashed potatoes. We use carne asada for fajitas, another family favorite. We aren't mexican at all but it IS OUR FAVORITE food, whenever we got out to eat, everyone wants to go to the Taqueria!

I don't make tacos as fancy as you do. I take the ground beef and fry it up and then use a taco spice seasoning. I then open a package of hard shell and soft shell tacos, cut up lettuce and tomatoes, put out shredded cheese and taco sauce. I always serve tacos with Spanish Rice which cooks in the microwave for 20 minutes. Quick and easy.

Mine aren't really fancy. When I feel really motivated I will cook homemade rice and canned refers, sometimes spanish Rice a roni.

Great hair on a very cute son!! Beautiful plate! Hehehe. Yeah, that's pretty much the standard way my family makes them too, although I like to experiment with stuff like 'lime-chicken soft tacos', 'oxacan tacos', or even 'thai chicken, black bean & mango tortilla rolls'. Of course many members of my family will always prefer just plain ole tacos, hehehe.

Onions are so good for you to. I have to hide them if I cook with them because I have a couple of picky eaters here. That's about his hair color, a dark strawberry blonde. he's cute and he knows it, the girls like him, he looks just like his dad who passed away, except he has blues eyes, not brown. He's a handful though.

I like to change tacos up every now and again, I used chicken seasoning once and hubby liked it but no one else did, I sometimes add chopped onions to the meat if too. If my son grew his hair long he would have big, fat healthy curls, it's not fair he has great hair and I don't! The plate is "Erins Paisley" by Oneida, got them DIRT cheap at Ross, 4 sets of service for 4 for $11.99 each! He he!

Oh god, I ALWAYS put onions in the meat!! Boy, yeah, you're sons hair is practically to die for! I love the color! It is dark red right, that is not just the lighting or the camera? The plate reminds me of some that I got from a 5-star hotel where I worked once. I put them in my bag at the end of my shift one day and went home with them. They were hand painted and none of them were the same design, some were birds and some were flowers. Maybe we should head a new MyLot department, we'll call it 'The MyLot Confessional', hahahahahaha!

I boil my hamburger meat before adding taco seasoning to it and my family loves the smooth texture of it.

When I make chicken tacos, I boil it for whatever reason, no one ever taught me to, but it's just the way I do it, I add the taco seasonings with the water until the water has cooked off, your right, boiling does add a finer texture!

They really sound delicious but I'm not sure FRIED tortillas, hamburger OR sour cream would be considered that healthy! They sound really tasty though.

maybe the fresh lettuce and cheeses are good, but my kids are on the thinner side so I'm not too worried if they eat hamburger and sour cream. I meant healthy from the stand point of it's made from fresh ingrediants, except the spices and salsa.

I was just teasin'! I love Mexican food!! I usually buy the crunchy shells in a box (my hubby likes these) and soft flour tortillas for the kids. I usually have tomatoes on mine (no one else likes them). I also chop up some onions. Hmm......now I'm gettin' hungry!

We had a late lunch today of tacos (leftover meat) and now dinner is in the oven (pork loin) I never make it, rice is on the stove and there's corn...but I'm not hungry because I just ate tacos right before I posted this question. Hubby is in the shower home from work, so I'm sure he'll be eating!

All great tasting stuff, what's "FLAN"?

Flan is a custard with a glaze. FYI - not all places make it good, but when you find a restaurant that does...you mouth loves the flavor. Where I live we have H.E.B. store and I found some in the frozen section of the store that is great. I do not recall the maker though.
