Do you speak a lot when you are eating in the restaurant?

It seems that it's our culture. Eating is also a kind of communication besides enjoying the food itself. I like to speak a lot when I am eating in the restaurant. It's very joyful.

eating in a restaurant - It depends on what kind of situation it is. If I happen to eat alone in a restaurant, I am a quiet person, but if I eat with someone who loves chatting or one who is talkative, I participate in the talk to make it go on.
Hello youless. It depends on what kind of situation it is. If I happen to eat alone in a restaurant, I am a quiet person, but if I eat with someone who loves chatting or one who is talkative, I participate in the talk to make it go on. Otherwise, I just enjoy my meal while eating. Enjoy yourself, youless.

It is true indeed that it is no fun to have a quiet meal, especially when you eat alone in a restaurant. But with friends, a dialogue is sure to happen between the two. LOL

Hello youless! Actually not. I don't mind about talking while eating or something but it's just that it's already my nature to be quiet while eating. I want to concentrate on eating..hehe..My husband is like that too, he's been quiet if he's eating.

Here in The States we are always so busy that we rarely take time to sit and eat with friends. Most of us grab a quick bite at a fast food restaurant. But there are some holidays when we get together and eat as a family. There are times when we do go to a sit down restaurant, that's when we do talk but not too much in my family.

Forgive me but the little I know of Chinese culture I learned through the movies. There are two films that makes me understand how much food And family are important. One is The Wedding Banquet and the other is Eat Drink Man Woman. In both food is important but sharing it with your family is more important.it has been a long, long time since most of us Americans have felt the same.Once upon a time most Americans got home at 6pm and had dinner with all their family every night. These days, with both parents working all different hours and the kids having after school activities, it is rare that everyone is home at the sane time.

I would talk optimum, when eating in a restaurant. Till the food is served, I will keep the persons sitting along with me, in good humour, however, as soon as the food is served, my entire concentration drops down to food and I love to enjoy my food, rather than chatting.

Well it depends who I am having the meal with in the restaurant. If it's with friends where we meet up to catch up on our lives at a restaurant I would talk alot. If it's with my husband we would talk alot as well. If with my in laws, then I would listen more than talk.

Hi youless! Oh no, I don't! Why? Because I tend to listen more so I can eat more! haha..It seems when I talk a lot, I was always the last to finish my food. But it sure is fun talking while eating though I am the type who concentrate more on the food! haha.. Take care always! lovelots..faith210

Hey youless, haven't seen you for ages. I agree with you that it's kind of our culture. Whenever I go to the restaurant with my friends, we talk really a lot. I think talking is the point of that dinner instead of eating in most of the cases. Have a good day.

I guess it depends on who I'm with. When I hang out with my friends, we usually talking while eating, it's like already a thing that we do. But if I were on a date or with someone like to formal, I just speak only if needed. Also it would depends on the restaurant I go to. However, I make sure that I don't talk while my mouth is full. Lol

Since I am naturally a silent person, I don't talk much when I am eating whether at home or in the restaurant. I don't really mind about everybody else chatting with their friends. Infact I think it's a great way to have conversations.

Hi Youless, I know that a lot of business are communicate in lunch or dinner, I am the person that like to enjoy a lot on food, so for me I would listen more that speak, I would speak after I finish my food. Or I will talk when I'm having a drink. If I talk more, I will be last last one who finish my food, I don't like that, everyone waiting for you to finish your food.

I am totally the opposite my friend when I am out eating in a restaurant we will talk and chat before the food is delivered then once we have the food in front of us all conversation comes to an end as we enjoy our food, besides I don't like talking with my mouthful and I certainly don't like seeing others talk whilst eating and besides if you chat your food gets cold, then once the meal has finished we can continue to chat.

I like to talk when I am at a restaurant. I dont like to eat in silence. However I make sure I dont eat with my mouth full. lol I think when you go out to a restaurant its an experience to savor. I want to make sure the food is good. Also the service and the surroundings. Eating at a restaurant is not just consuming food. Its an entire experience. I love going to them ! dl

hello youless! how are you doing? the truth is, it depends entirely on who i am with. if its an everyday kind of eating with family, yes, i tend to talk a lot. if its with officemates, yes, i like to talk a lot too. but if its lunch or dinner with special friends, or friends, or somebody else, for that matter, i tend to be shy and prefer to listen. another factor would be, where. is the place we are eating new to me? is it a newly opened resto? is it a new spot in town? things like that would make me shy too and then i try to figure out the place, observe the sorroundings and prefer to be quietly eating instead. =)

I'm not categorized as a talker type when I'm eating. Most I will speak before the main course came. For appetizer and desert session, I will speak just to relax myself and blend with the conversation. Just make sure myself not in the mute mode. But, it's true. It's a casual habit where we speak when eating. I believe those royalty maybe never do this. It's not being polite as you do two things at the same time. Anyway we must do out from the box as long you live in this world ^^. I love chatting while drinking coffee at the cafe too....

Perhaps I am a little different. I can finish the coffee so soon and I feel embarrassed to stay in the cafe for a long time to have a conversation
