I went shopping for a dvd/tv combo for my daughter. Her player is fried. Look what I came across. It is on the Disney store site and is still being sold. Wonder if it means you have to eat the product? Don't think so. This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm.It is the Fairies player tv combo. With a warning like that wouldn't you think they'd remove it from public sale?

Is there an age restriction on it? There reaches an age when kids stop gnawing on things and I think as ong as they have an age limit tag on it, they may get away with selling it... I wouldn't see my four year old chewing on it so maybe it may have a 3+ tag on it which most toys have now anyway Report them to 'trading standards' I suppose and see if they take steps...

Almost everything contains something that causes cancer. The key is, is the ingredient actually going to get into your kids body and cause cancer? Probably not. For instance, most computer monitors contain lots of bad chemicals, but our kids are not (hopefully) opening them up and eating the insides. Batteries contain chemicals that can cause cancer, birth defects, etc. The product is fine, just tell your kids to keep it out of their mouth.

Like I said in my response, if the kids are at a certain age, highly unlikely you'd find them chewing on something like this... The OP should go to 'trading standards' if it is a real concern and they will address it if she really wants something done about it They can put measures in place; if not done already, to make sure it's sold to be used by kids at the right age for example...

Well I am currently eating real dairy butter on my toast that is made from cows milk. Take your pick from Tuberculosis, brucellosis, hardening of the arteries, heart disease, and I am sure others. I guess the bottom line is that if you are scared of what is in it, then don't buy it. I am intrigued that California finds this chemical a problem but that no one else does. My guess is that they are warning people to be watchful of their children and see that they don't bite or lick the apparatus. I would be more concerned that a small plastic part doesn't get ingested than whether there is a remote possibility of getting cancer or other nasty. But if it is of real concern then yes, it should not be on sale at all.

That is terrible. I cannot believe it is still out there on the market being available. It needs to be removed.

Unless and untill the company has been issued a warning not to sell the product the company can and will be selling the product since nothing has been proved and its in the research stage only..if its proved immediately the government would be banning the product and the next thing is that they will have to clear the things that they have produced since they cannot put them into loss fiscal at this time...Happy Mylotting...

This topic seems familiar to me. Hrm. Ever get to a topic and wonder if you already answered it? Well, just in case I didn't answer it -- I'm sure it is just some nit-picky rule. You'd probably have to eat the plastic to have a problem. Still.. nit-picky or not.. I would think Disney would pull the product.

That is just sick, if there is something that you know causes those problems in your product, what are you doing seeling it? It makes me very mad to know that these producers are still willing to sell those products just to make a buck. I can't believe that they are even allowed to do that. I am also very dissapointed in the stores for carrying those products knowing fully well what they contain. It's pretty sad.

Could be that it has lead paint or other paints on it and that cause the health issues some kids do chew on stuff..but I wouldn't take that chance some are more willing and I am hoping they will have a age group in it so that they are old enough to know better then chew or anything on the television. Maybe they have stopped making them but are only selling what is in stock still. It is a shame though that they are still selling something that is hazardous to kids.

they are all about money. Corporations are very greed and they rather sell defect products than take it of from the market. They will do it as long as someone starts a law case....

Not something I would want to buy knowing that information. I don't understand why it is still for sale, but I guess they figure they are warning potential buyers and that it good enough for them.

I forget the name of the chemical but I know which one they are talking about. The same chemical is in Nintendo Wii, Playstation and almost every other electronic device you own. Disney did this to save themselves from later lawsuits down the line.

I think you would have to eat it. Honestly. I wouldn't worry too much about the player or it would be recalled. If it were truly dangerous at least one other state or entity would list it. I'm guessing the State of California has passed some over-zealous laws that apply to anything sold to kids or as toys. This DVD player is probably no more dangerous than any DVD player, but since it's sold as a toy, or to kids, or will likely be used in a kids room, they have to list that one of the chemicals that is required to make DVD players, and is encased in the DVD player and will never touch anybody's hands unless you take the player apart, has been known to be toxic in some way if ingested in a certain quantity.

That's really horrible. Watching tv which can make you have cancer that's insane. Hope none of friends buy any product like that. Who knew disney would have harmful products.

It is all about the money. They probably have so many they don't jut want to take the loss. Plus people are dumb. Look at all the products people buy from less them reputable companies and countries because they are cheap. There are hundreds if not thousands of toys out there which could be dangerous and have been labeled as such but keeping keep on buying them because they are cheap.

That is scary to me. it seems that nothing is safe anymore. i know calisfornia has a lot of rules on certain products, not that that is an excuse. I think people would appericate that you are sharing this information with others. The world is a scary place and we need to share with others and help each other. Thank you again and happy myoltting to you.
