A burn on my hand

Around a week ago I was pouring out coffee from my percolator and I accidentally poured steaming coffee on the top of my hand. Straight after the burn, I showered the area under pressured cold water. At first the patch reddened, but now the edges are less red, but the rest is all wrinklish and drying up and a bit itchy. I've been putting moisturising cream on it. What is worrying me is this: I never had such a scald on my arm, though I believe it is just a minor burn. Will it remain marked that way? Or will the skin on my hand be back to what it was before? I am so pissed because just 3 weeks before a friend of mine complimented me on how beautiful the skin on my hands is... and it is something of me that I love and do not want to lose. :(

Ouch! Sounds like you may have gotten a 2nd or even a slight 3rd degree burn. I'd look into getting a burn cream right away. You can probably ask your pharmacist to recommend something. Moisturizing cream might help soothe the skin, but you need something to help heal the damaged skin and prevent scarring too. Fresh brewed coffee and hot water for tea are two things that can really burn you bad. I had a friend in grade school who knocked a fresh pot of hot water on her leg. She had to be rushed in to the hospital.

Oooh thanks! I used to work as a cook years ago and I used to get worst burns at times and the scars have gone. I think that ye, I'll go to the pharmacist and ask for a burn lotion. :)

There is a product called Aquaphor that helps with such problems. You can get it at your local pharmacy, it is a bit pricey but well worth it. After you use this product, you will then want to follow up with tee-tree oil and vitamin e. This will help reduce the scaring, etc.

The pharmacist told me that now all I can take is something for scarring, and told me the healing is going on wonderfully - but the scar will take 6 months to disappear completely, but hopefully it should go away.

Next time you find yourself with a burn like that....take a cloth and soak it in milk! yes milk....and by the next day you won't even be able to see the burn! I hope you find something to make it better....
