"Butter of the gods" How do you prefer to eat/serve yours? do you peel them and slice/dice/mash do you halve them and scoop them out first? I like to halve them - pop out the pit sprinkle some salt and hot pepper sauce on them and eat them with a spoon from the shell. Mmmmm. so yummy. Once I was at the market wanting to buy lettuce for blts and bawked at the cost of lettuce... a fellow came up and said I see you have avocados in your basket - nix the lettuce and make a bacon, tomato and avocado sandwich. which we did. I think it sounded better than it actually was.

Have you ever had an avocado taco? You put slices of avocado on a cooked corn tortilla with a little salsa and or cream cheese or any other toppings of your choice. I also like to make a sandwich on a croissant with cream cheese, turkey, avocado, and tomato slices. I make a quick guacamole with mashed avocado, a little mayonnaise and salsa and a bit of lime juice. For my favorite guacamole, I use diced fresh tomato, jalapeno, lime juice, salt, and diced onion. I cut the avocado in half, remove the pit and score the inside, then scoop it out with a spoon. I lightly chop and mix the avocado and stir in the other ingredients. It's the best, and addictive.

I love avocados. My favorite way to eat them is on tortas. Which is a sandwhich with pulled pork or beef and a little bit of salt. My stepdad makes them. He is from montorray, mexico. They are amazing. I also think that avocados are really good with salt and cut into slices. Also tacos with beef, lime, cilatro, and avocado are really good. I'm away at college now and I so miss avocado!!

I think I know what you are speaking of.... when I go into Mexico I love to order lonches (spelling is probably off) and the bread is somewhat like a hoagie but a different shape - some places deep fry the bread and others toast it... I want to live a lot closer to Mexico! I've met some of the most wonderful people in my few visits.

Yes my step dad toast the bread on this flat iron he has. And the bread is like a really big hoagie and he usually pulls some of the middle of the bread to get more meat in themlol! Sorry I can't be more specific but they are wonderful!

I like Avocados but didn't know they were considered the "Butter of the Gods". I got three of them the other day for about 47 cents apiece. Pretty good price I thought. We like the just about any way they can be fixed. They are very good as a replacement for butter on toast too.We had them in a green salad yesterday. Before that we were eating them from the shell with a spoon. I see some good ideas from other responder here that I am going to try. I hope the store still has the cheap avocados tomorrow when i got to the store.

wow! superb price, there! I know there are so many mouth watering ideas being shared - so many ideas so few avocados... looks like a run to the store is in order. I have one daughter to compete with me for the avocados she likes them as much as I - luckily the other kids and their father do not care for them much at all.

Avocadoes are $1.85 to $1 97 here at the moment which is just too pricey for me. I love them in a salad with tomato, onion, lettuce, mushroom and capsicum. Any sort of dressing is nice from a plain vinaigrette to an Italian or French. Throw a medium steak next to that and I'm happy. Back when I could afford to I liked to have prawn cocktail with avocado and also I love nachos with avocado mixed with sour cream dolloped on the top. Yummeh!

Avocados are one of my favorite foods! I could eat them everyday, and sometimes do! I've never tried them with hot sauce, although I was eating salads everyday with chopped habernero for awhile (to hopefully 'speed up my metabolism'). The avocado was so cool and soothing to my mouth after the burning heat of the peppers! Avocado and cottage cheese, avocado and peaches, avocado all by itself on wholegrain bread with some salt and pepper, in a taco, or as guacamole on top of a burrito, man I love avocado!!! I found a recipe for interesting variations on the standard grilled cheese sandwich, and of course my favorite was grilled muenster with bacon, tomato, and avocado, on sourdough or wholegrain, whatever. God, my mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Yeah, well, after torturing myself for about a year with those salads... as much as I loved them, they apparently did NOTHING for my metabolism, hehehe. One day, after cutting the pepper up at the picnic table where I was having my lunch, I was driving off and while sitting at the first red light I blew my nose. I thought I was going to have to flag down some paramedics that drove past me!!! I never cut hot peppers up anymore without wearing plastic gloves!

I really don't know if the "avocados" you are referring on here is the one we have at home (Philippines). If that is so (I guess it's PEAR ALIGATOR in english) then am so fond of eating them as we have a lot in the farm. I like eating them peeled off then put a little amount of sugar for taste. I also like it sliced/diced and mixed it w/ some amount of powdered milk w/ litle sugar. Most of the time when we have plenty of harvest we make shakes of them and it tastes so good. I really miss it; I havent see some in the groceries here in our place.

I am not sure that ours are the same. I see they have really large lime green colored avocados at the store, I was thinking on trying but they are rather pricey. The ones we have been enjoying are pear shaped, dark dark green/black wrinkly skin and about the size of a woman's fist.

Exactly it's the one am refering about. Yes they are quite expensive here in the USA. I bought a couple of those yesterday and I was a little bit shocked w/ the price (1.50$ each) and very small; we call it dwarf size. I could say it's expensive because of course we have it for free in the farm at home, but even in the markets it's being sold like 7 or 8 of those for a dollar and it's much much bigger than the ones I've seen and bought; it's 3 times bigger. I looked at the label and it came from Mexico. Well there are also those bigger ones but i didn't looked at the price tho. Avocados are very common in the Philippines and quite cheaper compared here.

Never heard of how you eat them but sounds delicious. I love them with cottage cheese or all by themselves. In guacamole on salad. In a cheese sandwich and in a cheese and avacodo omlet.

hello modestah i love avocados. i like them lots in guacolmoly dip. i know that i didn't spell that correctly. but that is my favorite way to eat an avocado. i also like the avocados in seven layer salads and on just a plain tossed salad. they are delicious. a ripe avocado is so creamy and buttery and melts in your mouth good. i always get the guacomoly dip at mexican restaurants every time that i get to go eat there. take care and have a beautiful evening. (wish i knew how to spell better)

W0w! What I do with avocado is slice it in half then scrape it from its shell and mash it. Then put some sugar and milk and mix them. After that put inside the fridge to cool it.. If i want to eat it right away i dont mash it. I just add milk, sugar and ice. Yumyum!

you are the second person to mention sugar and milk. it would have never occured to me to eat them sweetened - but now I am curious and willing to give it a try - only I do not like milk at all so will just try with some sugar. :)

I eat avocados as a dessert treat. I just mash them well and add a lot of condensed cream. I then let it chill in the fridge for several hours, and then I have a wonderful sweet snack that's almost like an "avocado ice cream". :)
