To me it means what someone might think is so beautiful might be ugly to another. It makes sense to me because I think about it this way if this statment is not true than you would date anyone no matter what they looked like. I mean some people do not judge others by there looks but I feel at first that is what attracts us to someone. This is only my opinion and I am not trying to offend anyone. Also in a endnote I feel everyone has some kinda of beauty to them. I think we were all put here to love and learn from each other and that is how I feel. Happy mylotting and have a great day online as well eichs1!

Agree @bows, she has a sweet and beautiful avatar. @momtrying2makeit, you are right. How sad will it be to the so called "ugly" if everyone has the same perception of beauty. You help made this thread beautiful. Thank you!

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." For me, that quote means that beauty is not about just physical attraction in a person but a person is beautiful because he/she has a personality that would really make her beautiful. For me a beautiful person is the one who has lots of confidence and a good person to other people... Thanks for the discussion. Happy Mylotting and Have a great day! Cheers!

How I wish we can always see inner beauty as much as we recognize physical beauty. Thanks too for joining in the discussion.

For each person what is beautiful is different. Some people find blonde hair attractive. Some find brunette. Some like tall, some short. It there were only one standard, the world would be pretty boring. Celebrate the difference!

Now I'm wondering why majority think blondes are more beautiful... Thanks for the beautiful input.

It means that everybody has their own perceptions of what is beautiful! there are some standards in the sense that there are some things that the majority of people can agree is beautiful, but if we all agree the world would be a very boring place!

That's what at the back of my mind... Because if beauty differs from one person to another, how come we see almost the same kind of face and body features in beauty contests? Thanks for the beautiful idea.

Thats a phrase which tells us to be more positive to our outlook in our life....its not trying to measure the standards of beauty ,but is just a warning to others who try to look at the beautiful thing as ugly ... in short it tells us to be more positive

I think that motorbikes and cars are things of beauty and do not see the beauty in flowers and plants. Whereas my girlfriend can not see why i get so excited by by cars. But she loves flowers. What I see as Beauty she see`s as ungly so everyone has a different perception of what is beautiful. So i feel the standards change depending on who is viewing...

To me "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." means that everyone has a different idea of what beauty is. We all see every thing different. You and I may look at some thing and not agree on it's beauty. We all have our ideas of beauty whether it's a car, motorcycle, flower or a person. [i]I smile because I have no idea what's going on. Yes, each has his/her own definition of what beauty is. And it is makes life more beautiful, right?

No, it means that there are many, many standards of beauty and just picking one is silly. In other words, "everyone sees beauty in a different way".

To me it means that we all like different things and find beauty in different things. My husband says that I am beautiful, but I don't agree and I am sure that there are plenty of people in the world that wouldn't agree either. I think that nature is beautiful, but there are people who think that nature is ugly. Beauty being in the eye of the beholder simply means thatjust because it isn't beautiful to one person doesn't mean that it isn't beautiful to someone else.

Hello eichs1! I agree with that. I will site an example. My sister and I are looking at friendster. I have this particular girl whom I found very pretty. I like her features and everything. I showed it to my sister and friends and they both have different opinion about her. Another one is that my cousin told me about her crush, I got curious and asked her to point him to me when we see him but then when I saw him at school, he is not really handsome nor cute but for my cousin, he's the cutest. It's like American likes brown - skinned girl and filipino men are attracted to fair skinned, mestiza type of women.

Yesterday's beauty, often enough, is gone and forgotten tomorrow. We worship transient kind of beauty, as a rule. These beauties, by and large, are annuals, not perennials. But there are beauties who stay. These are the ones whose beauty enhanced by time. To them, time has charm, their skill, their ability to convey emotions. This is a beauty of a fragile flower, sweet and perfect at the short moment of its. opening. If beauty is only skin deep, then it must be that one is only talking about skin-beauty, But the beauty of a character, the grace of a beautiful person, grows. To my mind, it is this beauty of character loved by so many. It is this inward force, this pressure from the vitality within, that distinguishes people. It was the sense of elan, this vital power that makes one real and beautiful.Vitality is a force, it makes the body alive, It gives it that dynamic symmetry which constitutes the greatest appeal that man's eyes can discern or enjoy. How can one obtain this force, this beauty? I believe it comes from enjoyment and appreciations. It certainly does not come from fear, or from weakness. These is nothing more beautiful than health and happiness; These are the cosmetics of permanent beauty. From this comes color and grace and charm and dignity.

well isn't everybody seeing beauty with their own eyes? i mean you see this everyday when you go shopping with friends you look at a beatufull dress but your friends don't like it walking down the streets you see a a girl or a boy that for you looks beautiful but maybe for others don't depending on everyone's standards, they pick beautiness on several things for some are the color of that dress, the model, how long or short it is etc as well to a person ,looking at the structure of their face, the eyes, the hair, the whole body, or looking at that something strange physycal thing that makes that person different could mark beauty for people (in their own eyes)

That's true @bows, we can see things in different sides and maybe that's where some of the disagreement as to which is beautiful comes from.
