When I was new to computer, I used to type by looking at the keyboard. Everything went wrong if I was looking at the monitor while typing. But with continued practice, I started to type the words by looking at the monitor of the system and not the keyboard. But still I would be getting some typographical errors. .How about you? Do you type the words without seeing the keyboard?

Starting out I have to look at the keybored. But after I get going I can stop looking and look at the screen when I am typing.I still make some mistakes but who doesnt somtimes.. Its alittle harder for me because I use two fingers to type... on my left have i use my pointer finger, and on my right hand i use my middlle finger.. This is what is most comfterble for me because my hands are pretty small I cannot type with my fingers on the main row keys... but i can type like 40 words per minute or alittle more. so I do pretty good with my two fingers.. I will be happy when I can completley stop looking at the computer keybored for good... Thanks for the conversation!:)

It is a great asset to be able to touch type. My wife can do it but she was trained as a secretary. I'm always amazed at the speed of her typing. Me? I'm still a two finger typist looking at the keyboard! haha

Same here! What amazes me are the people who can type quickly on a laptop. I find it so much slower to use a laptop than a proper desktop, full size keyboard.

I also wonder at people who type very fast that too without looking at the keyboard. That is a great skill. If I type fast, I tend to make more typo errors..

I have learned typing when I was in school and worked as a secretary for a while, I am quite good in typing as I can type something like 100 per minute and am typing blind touch, my fingers just slide along the keyboard. To know typing is good and getting the speed is much better.

The only downside is when it comes to responding as it is a spontaneous action and the thinking of what to say makes the typing slow. But if I have a script to follow it will be done in a second. Typing is something I am quite good at and it improves a lot when I joined mylot.

That is called touch typing and I can do it very well. I can type 70 words per minute on a good day. The only trouble I have is this keyboard that I got last summer. I can't get used to it and my right hand too often is centered on the "h" instead of the "j". So I have to look when I first put my fingers on the keyboard or I'll have a chance of having to correct a lot of stuff!

yes, sometimes we do not get used to the keyboards. But after months of practice you can be skilled with that too.

Yes, I can type the words without looking at the key board. During my college days in the early 80's, we have a subject in typing, and we were trained to type using the old manual typewriter without looking at the words. WI was good then, even if the keys are very difficult to strike. Thanks to technology... typing is now easier than ever. You just have to practice.

I think it would have been an interesting experience to learn typing using a typewriter. you are really lucky.I could not use the typewriter as it was outdated when I became big..

Yeah, that was about twenty years ago. The typewriter that we are using then was the manual typewriter, electric typewriter is not commonly used before. Typwriting subject is a must for business students then.

Hello dear smilyn, I have learnt typing in a school. And I learnt it on a real typewriter. So i can type without seeing the keyboard. But when I took an online test, my score came out to be 30 w.p.m. While i am sure that I type more words than that. Good luck

wow..you learnt typing in a typewriter..I think it would have been a different experience..I wanted to join a typewriter course. But before I reached the eligible age, computer dominated the typewriter.

yes, when you type fast, you need extra skill and practice to look over the screen and the keyboard. But I tend to make more typo errors when I type fast.

I have been typing for ages. Sometimes i need to look at the keyboard to type long od complicated english words but mostly i dont look at keyboard. It is hard at the beginning when you start using keyboard to type but it gets very easy if you regularly type text, then you dont need to always look while typing

you are right. At the beginning it would be very difficult. You cannot stop your eyes moving down to the keyboard. But as you practice, it becomes easier to type by looking at the monitor.

Yes, I can type without looking at the keys. It took me a really long time to get familiar enough with the keyboard so that I wouldn't need to look, but eventually it happened. One of the main ways I was able to build my typing skills and get faster was with chat. I had so much to say I couldn't type fast enough. Now I can type about as quickly as I can think it. If I'm typing something from my head I can type at blazing speeds. If I'm copying something or typing words from a different page then my typing slows considerably. It honestly probably cuts my speed in half.

Yes, when we type sentences on our own we tend to type more faster than when we type a documents with written reference. I'm also more comfortable with my own words.

Yes, most of time, I type without looking at the keyboard. Well, having "typing lessons" back in high school definitely helped. It actually required us to memorize the keyboard (it was a typewriter around that time). And you're supposed to use all of your fingers while typing. I look at the keyboard every once in a while of course. :)

you are right..The most important thing is using all the fingers..I find it very difficult to use all the four fingers of the hand.

Yes, I type the words without looking at the keyboard. I always look at the monitor when I'm typing. I took computer classes while in high school though and then I went to college for computers. So I learned how to do it while in high school.

I can type without looking at the keyboard. I took typing lesson when I was in college and I use this when I worked as a data encoder. I can type 60wpm and I do some transcription job right now.

As I type my response in this discussion, I am trying not to look at the keyboard. So far, I am doing fine. I guess if its familiar words, I could easily type them without looking at the keyboard. I use to type and look every now and then since I wasn't really confident about my typing ability but, similar to you, I have developed it quite well, through participating in forums as well as sites like this one. hey there. Yes, I do type without looking at the keyboard. I learned touch typing just 2 months ago. Before my typing speed, when I wasn't using "touch typing", was 30wpm now I'm doing 65wpm with 100% accuracy. It was really hard to learn it. There were times I thought that it's not gonna work but I just keep patient and practice every day. And it paid off. It's really fun typing this way. It's like playing. Every time you test your wpm and it's getting higher and higher, it's exciting and wanna makes you do more and faster. happy lotting.!

100% Accuracy? That possible but not probable. I taught myself how to type as a little girl when my Dad bought me a Smithsonian Typewriter. By the time I was in high school I was typing over 75wpm and later in College I type about 120wpm. I was called flying fingers. Even with that, I made on the average of 3-5 mistakes typing over a 100wpm. I suppose if I cut my speed all the way down to 60 perhaps I could do it without mistakes. For me though that would be moving in slow motion. Do you have to focus very hard to not make mistakes? As it relates to typing without looking at the keyboard, there are games on the computer to help u practice doing that. Once u learn it you'll never do it any other way!

well, i am not so good at it........but I'd love to be typing so fast and without looking at the keyboard. in fact .....when i had bought my computer, i had also tried doing some tutorials for typing.....but you know that's soo boring.....i didn't even try them more than 3 times....and then i thought as i keep using my computer, ill start typing fast..........now, i do type very fast but 50% of the time, i look at the keyboard. happy mylotting...:-)
