Do you flush every time??

So do you flush the toilet after each time you use it? I know many "environmentalists" who do not flush the toilet after each time urinating in an effort to conserve water. I understand the importance of saving water and caring for the environment, but I would assume there are also potential health risks that come with letting urine stand in water for an extended period of time... When my boyfriend and I are home together, if we are using the bathroom one right after the other simply to urinate (not for bowel movements, of course!) we will save a flush. If he goes and I plan on going right after him, he will skip the flush and I will do it instead after both of us finish, or vice versa. We do not, however, let the urine stand in the toilet for hours in between flushings. What is your opinion on this situation? What do you do with respect to flushing -- is it every time?

I will be honest, I do not flush my pee all of the time, the urine does not stand for too long, it gets flushed eventually during the day haha. You know the old saying, if it's yellow, let it mellow, if it is brown, flush it down! Now my boyfriend, he flushed and then puts the seat down, so he obviously gets to it a lot of the time. It is just something that I learned from my childhood, my mother would let it stand for at least a few hours. I really don't think they would be any health problems associated with not flushing, urine is not really something that causes harm, unless if it really stands for at least a week haha. I mean if cats can urinate and crap in a box and people sometimes don't change it for a month, I am sure a day of watered down pee will not do any harm at all.

Actually, I never thought about it that way with the cat scenario. I know the pee is watered down, though, but you do have a good point.

Hello my latest friend Bethany1202 Ji, I have experiences and warnings by concerned Doctor Urologist), when i suffered with UTI, She warned me not to make any Natural calls at public places, as they are prone to to such diseases, as tehy are not cleaned properly. She further warned me, in case I have to go out, I must return to my own house for urinating, so I understand importance of flushing the toilet. Even inside the house , I have made SOP to clean the toilet at regular intervals. So be careful. Urinals must be flushed at all times else bill for medicines would increase. may god bless you and have great time.

Truthfully I don't always flush. Sometime i just do a dribble and I don't think that those dribbles need to be flushed at once. When I do a good pee then it does get flushed. If more than one person has to go at the same time then we save a flush there too.

Yes Beth, I flush it every time. What is the use of protecting water and filling the atmosphere inside the toilet with smell of urine? Air is more delicate than water. So it needs to be kept pure first and that is everybody's duty! Thanks for this nice discussion and have a good day with flushing the toilet regularly!

I always flush, no matter what. I do not think that it is right to let the inside of the toilet bowl stink. If my husband goes and does not flush, I will flush the toilet and I also do it when I go to a public restroom unless it is one of those automatic flushers that does not work and then it is up to the company to fix it. I am sure that those enviromentalists who believe flushing is wastful and harming the planet, really do not care if any little child gets sick or that there is a major epidemic anyway, since they really do not care for people anyway.

Well, i always flush everytime i use the bathroom... i can conserve water in other ways... but the toilet is a different thing because we need to protect our health... it is good to think about the environment... as long as our health is at risk...

In my own home, when I am alone, I don't flush it after every pee. If I have guests then I do. In others homes I do too. I started flushing less to save on the water bill not so much to save on the water.

I don't think that it is a bad idea to try to save the environment by saving a flush here and there. I usually find that I try to save a flush if I can. I happen to have a toilet that has a flushing problem and it can get backed up quite often. It is aggravating sometimes. But if I can flush about every time I just feel a little better.

Yes, actually i got the this habit when i was in high school when my values teacher discussed to us being kind to others. She told us that even in the simple using of toilet whether you just urinate or what it is always good that we flush the toilet considering that theres another person who will use it. from then on i always flush the toilet after using it.

We flush after each usage of the toliet, expect durning the night. I have one child who's a very light sleeper when she finally does crash out so we keep the flushings down to none when she's out..

I live in the country where we get our water from the dam. Because it hasn't rained very much lately the dam level is really low. Our drinking water has even started to turn brown because the water tank is that low. I never flush number 1's, unless we have guests over of course! However I do not agree with letting it sit for hours on end-it starts to smell. I remember reading that if everyone saved one flush a day we'd save a ridiculous amount of water, if only more people would do it!

we only have one bathroom and there are 4 of us in the family. when there are more than one in a row that have to go to the bathroom, ie, in the morning, we dont flush in between because the family members usually just go one after another, but we always flush at the end. i dont like to let it stand either.

I flush after each use...it's just the way I was taught. If ppl want to save water then I'd suggest getting a 2-liter soda bottle or a plastic 1/2 gallon milk jug, fill it with water or sand and put it in the toilet tank. The toilet will still flush (put the bottle in a corner, not over the workings) and you won't use as much water. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Bethany~ I am with you. I cannot fathom that it would be a good thing if urine was stagnant for hours...just a thought... Kind of gross too. Your scenario is exactly how I like to do things... :)

There are many ways to save water consumption for toilet flushing. Previously, I put a bottle of water in the container to adjust the water level. The current toilet has two shifts for respective needs. And I have several barrels for used waters, so that it can be used to flush the toilet to dispose of the urine.

We flush after every time we use the bathroom. Like you said, I can understand wanting to conserve water, but it seems gross to leave the toilet unflushed. I conserve water in other ways, like turning it off while I'm brushing my teeth and cutting down on shower time (I love long showers!). But I really wouldn't want to leave urine sitting in a toilet for a long time.
