certain industries such as football, baseball, hockey or the movie stars. They have plenty of money. Why don't they all give back some and stop being greedy this is how our nation got to where we are. But better yet why can't all of us ban football, baseball, movies etc. Would they then be out of a job and feel like us? We could focus our money else where to keep the common person at work to feed their family instead of keeping the rich rich. What do you think?

I think that's ridiculous. They have worked hard or have the talent to get where they are. If you have experience, skill and talent you don't really worry about being laid off as there shouldn't be a problem to get a new job. I understand people being mad at sport stars and celebs having millions of dollars, but they earned it. They worked just as hard as the rest of us, just doing sports instead of office work.

I agree with you. Not to mention, many of those people also have gone to college, worked hard to earn a degree and any one of them could have a different career and still make great money because they chose to achieve higher education. I firmly believe that, although to many, a degree is just 4 years of loans to pay back, in today's economy and job market, learning skills that will put you ahead is essential. Those celebrities have the skills and knowledge to do much more than play sports or act. And many of them do more. Many of them have their own businesses aside from their celebrity careers.

i agree with you guys too. yes, it's a general reaction to feel envy to these stars/models/football but if you think about it - they also have something we have that they don't have. privacy - in exchange of their luxury. and i know they also worked hard to get to where they are now. i always have wishful thinkings about how i want to be like them but i guess i have to work on my own too. cheer up, bailey. =) keep the faith

I can understand your frustration with this, but the stars will continue to make millions as long as the average person continues to buy tickets to games and movies and watch the games on t.v. With the current downfall in the economy it is possible sales will drop and therefore the salaries will drop. I'm not sure that the stars are being greedy for earning the money. Would you turn down a million a year for what you do if someone offered it? No. Well we can't blame them for accepting it either.

Unfortunately, most employment is based not on what someone is really worth but on 'how little can we get away with paying you'. Clubs and teams pay such high prices for players (and pay such high wages) because that is what they are 'worth' in terms of the market in that commodity. If a club wants to hire a particular player, then that player (or rather, his agent) negotiates a price which is evaluated on how big a draw (not how good a player - though that is a factor) that person is. It's a market, like any other, and the amounts of money that change hands or are paid as salaries are not actually important. You may think 'WOW, they earn $X thousand and I only get $X' but there is an 'exchange rate', just as there would be if you took your $$ to India.

The rich celebrities seldom get laid off because we poor people need our diversion and they provide it. If we stopped watching their movies and tickets to their games and buying their cd's there might be a recession in the entertainment industry. Cheers!!

Until people stop paying for entertainment there won't be anyone in those indu stries that would lose their positions. Things would have to get really bad for people not to chose still to go out and see movies and games.
