I am not sure if it is mentioned anywhere in the myLot policy concerning certain ways of earning here. I was wondering if anyone knew about the earnings of commenting on responses of others to the the posted discussions. I figure that it is a form of participation and therefore would be somehow credited.

Yes, you earn for contributing as responses or comments. I am not sure whether one has to have made a response to the discussion in order to earn from a comment on that discussion. Making a comment does not, however, increment your number of posts.

I believe if you reply to a response to your discussion, it is counted toward your earnings if you are discussing something and not just saying thank you. In fact, the rules ask that you not reply with just a thank you. For instance, if you were to reply to me you would say thank you for the information and you might ask if I reply to all the responses I get. I would then reply with another 3-4 lines describing my reply habits and we would let it drop or continue to intelligently discuss the matter. All those are quality replies with relevant content that others might find interesting and that's what they use to determine if one of your discussions is earnings-worthy. Lots of people post one-line questions to begin discussions and those are usually not counted in your earnings.

At the bottom of every page you will see a link leading to the FAQ. This part may help resolve your query: http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq6.aspx#15 In the Guidelines it also says: 'Don't Post anything that inaccurately explains the myLot earnings algorithm. Our myLot mathematicians have worked long and hard on our elaborate payment system and we wouldn’t want any of our users to make them feel inadequate by breaking their algorithm in minutes.' therefore no user is aware of what, other than 'activity' is actually paid or how.

Nobody really knows how much you get for each post/discussion/comment. Its all done based on many factors. Some are length of post, quality of post, etc. Mylot isn't too fond of people trying to figure it out either. The best advice I can give you is to not worry about it, post and discuss as much as you can and make the posts long and meaningful and you'll earn plenty!
