Well... guys I really need your help. I think this happened to a lot of people already. Right now, I'm so confused on what course to take... I'm totally confused. Were you confused to when you were in college ? I'm failing one of my majors and I'm so frustrated. I don't want to shift because it will be just a waste of time and money. What do you guys suggest i do?

Good luck. Hate to state the obvious but you may want to make a schedule for yourself and stick to it. If you don't like the subject you have to work harder at it. Take breaks in between your studying.

Not time management but training to discipline yourself because it's something you hate. If it was a subject I disliked it would take me four hours just to read five pages. (not quite that bad but close) You have to make yourself study.

Well, we all have had those crossroads in our life, and unfortunately it seems to be hitting more people even at older ages as well. Especially when faces with decisions on what is best for sure. I know I for one had to drop out of College and sometimes regret it, so I hope that Good things can happen for you. You need to be able to weigh your options regaurding your career choice and see what is Best for you. If you are a Praying person praying about it is a Good obtion as well. In time you will know what you need to do, and wishing you the Best from here.

I know that in some countries people choose their majors basing on the potential future opportunities or the parents' advice, not on their own interests. How about you? Maybe that is the reason why you failed one major. This may happen to everybody. According to my principle, once you choose it, you should adhere to the choice. You should try your best to do your work well for it is the responsible attitude toward your study. Belive that where there is a will, there is a way. May you succeed!

Hello there jamborieman. Like you, I also dont have an interest to my course. But that was before, I learned the importance of my course which is nursing to the life of many people. I just have to do my part by learning, exploring, and discovering things about my course. If you do not want to shift then do not shift, All you have to do is focus and motivate yourself. Show your professors that you are really interested to the course by not being absent. Your course is perfect and professional. Do not waste the opportunity.

it depends on how you like that major. if you like it so much, then retake it and work harder on it. with interest, it won't be painful for you to study it. if you don't really like it, you should drop it, although it is a waste of time and money.

I'm kind of learning to love it already despite the hardness of the major and I'm also scared to waste time and money as you said... Glad that you responded!

okay first and foremost, take a big deep breath. it's okay to be confused. lots of people are confused, young, old, it doesnt matter. there just comes a point in your life when you get confused and you doubt yourself. it's perfectly understandable that you're confused over what course to take. been there, done that. and yes it's not easy but you have to remember that this is all about you. what happened to me may not be the same for you. but one thing I can tell you is you have to go where your happiness lies. being happy is the first step to being succesful. if you're happy with what you are doing then success should follow suit. have faith! everything will all work out. :)

It was never hard for me to choose what course to take during College. I only have two choices then, which is Political Science or Psychology. What was am thinking then is to choose a course that will lead me to Law afterwards. Although, my first choice was Psychology, an older friend of mine told me to take up Political Science as my pre law because it will be advantageous so I took Pol. Sci. When I was in Law School, I learned that there is no course requirement when you take up Law proper. You are admitted as long as you are a graduate of a Bachelor's Degree. That's when I realized that I should have taken Psychology instead of Pol. Sci. Well, am done with it so it's late to regret now. What I did, I had finished Law and am planning to take special classes in Psychology. Now we go to your dilemma. I want to know if your course now is your personal choice? If it is your personal choice and it interests you, then do something about your failing subjects. Face the consequences because you can't blame anyone other than yourself. However, if the course you are now is not your choice, who is to blame? You mentioned that you don't want to shift, truly it is a waste of time and money. Now, you really have no choice than to face the consequences and take the risks. Ask your heart, my friend. If you continue to fail your major subjects, what is/are the consequences? Either you will shift or transfer to another school. Both are really a waste of time and money because you will undergo or start all over again. Would you want that to happen? Think and assess yourself. Visualize the consequences and if you feel that you do not want those consequences to happen, do and make efforts to pass your failing subject. Give some time to concentrate on your failing subject. What is the reason behind your failing subject? If it is about the Professor, you have no choice than to deal with it. If it's the subject itself, then take tutorials. Well, if the reason for being confused is because of other factors like emotional problems or psychological distress, and that your schooling is getting affected, then release those stressing you. I can offer my counseling services if you have skype or yahoo messenger account. Good Luck!

let me ask some questions before i say my piece. is your course your choice in which you are interested? what is/are the reason/s why you are failing in one of your majors? i would not advise you to shift to another course if your failure in one of the majors is caused by a reasonable happenstance such as teacher's inability to deliver his/her lessons well. but if the reason why you are failing is that you don't simply get the lessons no matter how hard you try, then i will make you consider changing your major. goodluck!

hi! you have to answer the following questions before finally deciding as to what course are you going to take. 1. what job you like to do? 2. what field of knowledge are you best at like mathematics, science, english or what? with regards to your failing grades dont be frustrated i am sure you can take make up exams in order to passed that subject. all you have to do is to talk to your professor. cheer up there are a lot of problems in this world and some are even worst.
• Philippines

Well, I can say I'm good in math and I want to take up IT. but I really want to be a Physical Therapist but my heart's not on the science side of things... Yeah, I let my frustration get the best of me once again. This is stress I think. Failing at the same time worrying about my parents' money going to waste....

hi jamborieman, Well, if the course you had chosen as of now is what interest you, then I can see no reasons why you will fail in any subject of yours. I have a doubt with the course you are in now. Is that your own choice or not? As for me, you should choose a course that your heart wants and not other wants. I say this so because how will you develop yourself if you are not interested with what are you doing. You can not feel fulfillment anyway. And somehow, you might just get tired and bored. If I were you, I will make a reflection of what I really want or else, I will just be wasting time and money. Life is so hard nowadays to waste for time and money. You have to be practical. If you think that you have a very slow development with your studies because you not like it much, then make a move. It is okay to change course if that will be a way for you to excel academically and get what you want. Remember that you have to enjoy life. You are still young and I can say that you can fulfill your dreams if you just make right actions.Well, if you are still confuse, why not try to pray and ask God of what is his plan for you. Let Him direct your path and for sure, afterwards you will be okay on the course you choose.Just learn to trust Him.

Yes, I am now praying and going to church more often. I'm trusting Him. Thanks for the response annierose!

Are you failing because you aren't interested in the TOPIC you're learning about (your major) or because of the teaching style, the class size, etc? It doesn't necessarily mean that you're no longer interested in getting a degree in that major, it might just be the particular class and the professor's style of teaching that you aren't used to & don't like. Have you (successfully) taken classes in your major before? Is this the first one you're failing? I guess you'll just have to stick it out and see. Some universities (like mine) offer free tutoring and 'career counseling' - you could look into it and see if a TA or an upperclassmen could help you out in that class & with that class's assignments, maybe? And honestly, people like me & you are going to college because we want to be able PICK a career we will ENJOY doing for a living; so isn't it a good idea for you to figure out what you want to do (and don't want to do) NOW rather than when you are settled into a career that you hate?

I see. I want to be a Physical Therapist but the fact is... I think I'm just really having a hard time adjusting from highschool to college.I'm not used to all these stress in college. Having 100 item quizzes about a 70 page chapter about the cat and all that... And yeah. Guidance counseling.. i never thought of that. I'll look into that. Do you have any tips for time management or adjusting?

The best thing for you to do is to study really really hard. Make this evident in you suceeding examinations. Participate during lectures to show your instructors that you are interested. In that way your instructors will notice your imporvement and pray that they will give you credit for that.
• Philippines
19 Feb 09
I am currently doing that. I try to ask questions now very often to make it evident to my professors that I am somehow trying to pass and really interested. thank you for your response dokteng!

hi,when I was a graduate student, i am not interested in what i learn, i did not get high score on it, However, i stick to it.because in fact i do not know what interested me most. 4 years later,i become a postgraduate student, and now is graduating from school. however, i begin to love my major. all I want you to know is that sometime you may not like the major, and you do not know what you like most, just try to stick what you learn, just stick to it. then maybe a miracle will come.

The best thing that I would do in your situation is talk to a Career Counselor. Here you can tell them what your interests are. And your goals. Here you can decide from here what would be best for you.. That way you will be placed in the correct classes of your major.. I had the same problem when I was in college, and I had to discuss my strengths and weaknesses that could place me in the appropriate field. I understand that it will be confusing, but sooner or later you will discover what will be your ideal major that you want to take up in college. They also have training, where you can acquire skills for what you feel that you want to go to college for. Try this as an option if necessary. Your main goal, is finding what you are good at. And once you know that, then you will maybe have an idea what field that you want to be be in. I wish you the best of luck and achievement in your success in college!

Thats because you'll not really interested in the field pick something you love that way you'll give it your all no matter what, when i was in college i pretty much failed the subjects i didn't have a passion for so find your passion and you just might surprise yourself. Good luck and well wishes.

I also got confused on what course to take before when I was in college. I listed it up and set my priorities like affordability first since I don't have money or budget at all to go to college. I wanted to be a doctor, an architect and a teacher but i ended up being a teaching course since it's the only thing I can afford. I got my degree and I became who I want to be, that's what matters most. Amidst, confusion I have proven myself. So whatever makes you happy, if you think your brain can take it and if you can afford it then go for it!

Don't worry about it .Just smile ,just give yourself a big smile . The sunshine is always appearing after the rain .So everything will just pass away . What you have to do is to find the course that really fits your interests and then focuses on what you are doing .Be more patient about the things and try your best to do evrything that deserves your efforts .Then days later ,you will see your own sunshine . Come on !Go on fighting with yourself ,young guy !
