Do you think breed-mixing is cruel?

I didn't find anything really wrong with breed-mixing, but now that I think of it, is it really good for the mixed breed puppy? I think puppies are the strongest if they are bred properly. I also think breed-mixing might be causing extinction because because lets say a golden retriever mates a chihuahua and everyone thinks it's cute. They start doing it too, and a finally, there are so many golden and chihuahua mixes in the world, but all the goldens and chihuahuas are dead. This could actually be possibe. What do you think about this whole topic?

Hey there! You made me laugh with that golden chihuahua.lol But, golden retrieve and chihuahua would never make an offspring. Mating wouldn't even be possible. Just imagine how big a golden retriever is for a chihuahua? Image how big the genital of the golden retriever is for a chihuahua to handle? Small breed of dogs can only be breed with small breed of dogs. Well, I don't know if it would be possible for a male chihuahua to breed with a big dog. Have a nice day. Happy posting!!

It does happen and in both directions. A friend had a female chihuahua and a male shepard. The pregnancy had to be terminated as the size of the growing pups would have killed the small dog. However another friend had a make chihuahua and a female shepard mix who had a couple of litters pups. They though another dog was somehow getting into the yard until they saw the female laying down for her mate several times smaller then her. Where there are raging hormones and animal instincts they will find a way. I think forced breading for fun or profit is wrong but mixed breeds are less likely to have health problems and oftem mke very loveable pets.

i think theres nothing wrong with mixed breed dogs as long as they would look great. cross breed a bulldog with a shitzu and you will get a BULSHIT breeding and PUG with a Beagle= Puggle.

Those names are really cute, but it's not the looks i'm worried about. It's the health conditioning and stuff.

Dog breeds can be actually strengthened by breeding different breeds of dogs together. A mixed breed has the ability to display charactistics of both breeds and many times cancelling out the negative aspects of a certain breed. Keeping a breed pure can also create problems in the gene pool, hip problems, eye problems, heart and liver failure, etc. the list can go on. If you think about it the dog is not a pure dog anyway but was altered by taming wolves and over centuries we diversifed them to all the different breeds we now have. Take the bear for instance, did you know that the polar bear has been cross breeding with the grizzly bear? That is really bad for us as the size of this cross breeding causes a massively huge whitish brown bear who sees us as food and has absoulely no fear of man. Evolusion finds ways to keep species alive even if it means mixing the gene pool.

it usually is better to have a pure bred dog. This way u can trace the problems that occur with that breed and usually a good dog breeder will try to breed a male and female to have the least problems in the puppies. Breed mixing has it advantages also. Ex. breed a Rotti with a hound and u get one touf hunting dog..it all depends what they r trying to get from the mixing of breeds.. only go for the good not the stupid...

It's creepy that some people want to create living monsters because of some STUPID dog contests. What's the point having a dog which eyes are eventually pushed out of their sockets or a dog whose skull is too tiny to house it's brain.. Sick!

just depends, I like pure breads when it comes to german rotweilers and siberian huskies, I think they are both beautiful animals, and mixing them would take that away but then i look at a dog called a golden doodle, its a golden retriever and a poodle, and I'd have to say they are one of the cutest dogs I've ever seen in my life, and there really is no pure bread out there, you think rotweilers only mated with rotweilers for all the years before the were domesticated? sure some blood lines are stronger but for the most part, they're all mixes somehow, just like I find it hard to believe that there are people that are 100% of one race, we've all basically been mixed with some other race somewhere in the past, but no one remembers, but thats just my belief, I have no proof, but it sounds like a plausible theory to me lol

You do realize dogs are just domesticated inbred wolves don't you? Mixing them is actually good because the "pure bread" dogs have suffered so much inbreeding they're suffering genetic disorders. We created all these breeds. Even if they all interbred into mutts we could undo the process the same way we did the first time by continually breeding together the animals with properties we liked.

There will always be people who want purebred dogs so I don't think it's likely that one kind will cease to exist. It's actually more healthy to have a mixed breed dog though because inbreeding animals brings out the bad traits.

There are always fad breeders, but it is very difficult to start a new breed, it takes a lot of years to get it accepted and not many breeders are willing to do that. For a pet quality dog, I would much rather get a mixed breed, they tend not to have as many health problems as the pure breds do. In fact often the hinds 57 make wonderful dogs.

Nice topic. I see nothing wrong with mixing breed, as long as it's done for a reason. Not just because they look cute, or to see what you get if you mix two different breeds. All poorly-bred dogs, including poorly-bred mutts, do have the possibility of health problems. And not ALL purebred dogs have poor health. Usually the people who just through two dogs together, without thinking about health testing(not just that simple testing, but much more is involved like OFA, CERF, etc) You get the breed crazes which also add to the problems. There's a reason, if you're looking for a purebred, you should look at the Breed Club's breeder referral. Not just online, newspapers, etc. Yes, they may be more expensive, but just think of how much you'll pay if you are screwed by breeders who don't give any crap about health, and those health problems strike. But, if I were looking for a mutt, rescue would be my choice of obtaining one... as they're just as adorable, not as expensive, and I'm saving a life. ^.^
