I think your pen drive might be infected with a virus.try scanning your pen drive for viruses. If the virus can't be removed.Format the drive. You will lose all data in it.Don't do the format often as it will keep reducing the capacity of the drive. If the problem is still not solved.Take it to shop where you bought it for repairs or replacement.

But i don't think it is possible for hardware to change files to unknown extensions.

I think the pen drive you have brought is a cheaper one that means it is not a branded or local, thats why this is happening to your pen drive. One of my friend got a pen drive of that kind and when ever he puts some data into it often the data becomes corrupted and it shows some abnormal files with abnormal capacity. The files also cant be deleted also you have to format the pen drive to get back to its normal position. If the pen drive is barnded one then there might be some problem related to virus or with the hardware itself. If it is in warranty period then you can replace it form its manufacturar. Scan your pen drive with an well known antivirus with latest definations and if there is any virus in it or not.

A 32 gig Pendrive? I don't have any portable memory bigger than 2gb at present, and I didn't even know that (flash) drives were available that big yet..I has a 256mb once that went south, and when it stopped working had to dump it..As I'm assuming it's quite New,I'd suggest taking it back for a replacement!

32Gb pen drives are available. They cost in the region of £60/$80, I believe (though may be had cheaper - I would not be confident of the quality, however). You are right that, if this is relatively new, it is most likely to be a hardware fault (though the other options I list below are distinct possibilities). The most common fault with a pen drive is 'user error' - pulling the drive out before the write is finished. The only solution for that is often a reformat.

well i could provide u with one little suggestion that firstly u can scan your pen drive to see if there is any virus present.if it still does not function properly, then you can always format ur pen drive.
