I really would like to make some homemade peanut butter cookies. But I am still a little bit leary about the semonilla out break. Have you eaten peanut butter lately? What do you think?

PEANUT ORIGINATION ~ I do eat peanut butter and never have doubt about it because the latest outbreak actually covers certain areas of peanut origination. About the source of peanut for which area it came from. That's what I heard about the relation between the current health issue about peanut through FDA announcement regarding Salmonella Typhimurium Outbreak 2009. My provenance link; http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/Salmonellatyph.html

hello moneymommy Do you think its safe to eat peanut butter now? i haven't heard any news lately about a peanut butter scare, that was a few months ago that the semonilla out break in the peanut butter happened. and go make you some homemade delicious peanut butter cookies. but if you get sick from eating them, don't come looking for me. lol if you have any peanut butter around your house that you have had for awhile, i would throw that away and go purchase new peanut butter for your peanut butter cookies. and yes, i usually buy Kroger brand peanut butter and i keep it around all of the time. and when that the peanut butter scare of the semonilla being in it like that it was before, i think that it was just one brand of it that was contaminated. let us all know around here at Mylot if you did decide to bake homemade peanut butter cookies today! take care and have a beautiful afternoon.

I bought my sister some fresh ground peanut butter at Whole Foods the other day. You just flip the switch on the machine and it grinds as little or as much as you want. I am sure the peanut butter is fine. My son was still eating out of the jar we had in the cabinet and he was fine. I ate some too. He still has half a jar left so I have not worried about the stuff in the store yet.

No, not lately have I've eaten peanut butter. This my first time hearing about the Semonilla Out Break. This sounds very scary.. I hardly eat peanut butter, but my kids do from time to time. Even my hubbie does. Thanks for telling us about this. I will be very cautious from now on. I wonder if this Out Break causes skin reactions and rashes???

No it was contaminated by semolina which would cause nausea and diarrhea and can be dangerous.

According to the FDA there never was a problem with the peanut butter in the jars. An up date still has some product that have peanut butter in them is still being recalled. You can check to see what products are safe here.http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/Salmonellatyph.html

Try local brands. The problem was on a national level, right? So logic says that the odds of finding safe peanut butter is in local brands. That's mostly what my family's been doing...no problems so far. It's not really more of a gamble than buying food usually is, from the stores (there's a ton of dangers that we'll never know about or be aware of...EVERY single time we go).

It never affected the jar stuff, if you are really making homemade, they should be perfectly safe

Yes we've had a couple of jars of peanut butter in the house since the outbreak. I checked the list of recalls before we bought our jars and I didn't see any recall on Skippy or Jif brands so that's what we bought. Which works out great since those are our preferred brands anyway. I did go to the FDA site just now to check out the latest list of recalls. It is a VERY long list which surprised me. I really had no idea how wide spread the problem has become. It's a little scary but Skippy and Jif still aren't on the list so I would feel pretty safe.

I don't think it is safe to eat Peanut butter now, even pistachios have been recalled in the market, so it is better not to eat them now. Well, except if you are the one who make peanut butter. There are some home made peanut butter in the neighborhood, it is better that buying those imported brands which are more prone to contamination.

This doesn't personally concern me that much because even if I love peanut butter, I know I can do without it. So Im not stressed at all if there's no peanut butter in the house.

hi, moneymommy... I just ate peanut butter sandwich. well, we haven't heard the same case here in my country but I ate only what my mom makes... She gave me a jar of her homemade peanut butter. you can try making your own peanut butter if you are leery of using commercial ones out there... Do you have raw peanuts there that you can buy by kilos or ounces? you can start with that. Making your own peanut butter is not that easy, and cooking it right is the key to a delicious peanut butter... If the FDA hasn't released a statement declaring the peanut butter clear of salmonella, then it's better to stay out of it for a while, MM (I shortened your nick here, I hope it's ok)
