Unexpected Kindness.

Recently, I came across the following quote and was impressed by it, What are your thoughts? "Of all the things I have learned in my lifetime, the one with the greatest value is that unexpected kindness is the most powerful, least costly and most underrated agent of human change. Competition will improve quality and lower costs. Confidence will enable us to climb a mountain instead of a molehill. But kindness that catches us by surprise brings out the best in our natures." -- Bob Kerrey

Yes ma'am I believe this that confidence enables us to climb a mountain. And I personally feel this is true. All know one fact that psychology plays a great role in building one's character and moral strength. Similarly When confidence is inserted it is bound to work and work for its betterment.

Yup, I agree. Kindness brings out the best in each one of us, and it comes for free. So our world would have been a better place to live if everyone practices true altruism, but sad to say that there are people who do not seem to include kindness in their vocabularies, so there are lots of trouble we sometimes encounter--like the inconsiderate neighbor who plays his music full blast in the middle of the night, or the stranger who refuses to help a child in distress and so on....

Hi psyche49f, Thank you for responding and we do agree. There are so many problems in the world and the real answer is kindness yet so many cannot see that. Blessings.

Brilliant and inspirational. It reminds me of the words of one of my favorite American poets, Ella Wheeler Wilcox. So many gods, so many creeds, So many paths that wind and wind, While just the art of being kind Is all the sad world needs. Words to live by, I think.

Hi Tee, Thanks and I like your quote as well, Isn't it amazing how the answer to most of life's problems are right under our noses. Blessings.

As usual you bring thoughts to live by to these discussions. I do look forward to reading each of your posts. Thank you. Kindness costs us so little and is so easy to give if we just keep our own egos out of it.

Very very well said. kindness can pop up in some of the greatest places! right now my husband and I are planning a way to get to toronto to a friend's memorial service, and the kindness that this guy's family is showing us (we've never met any of them) in helping us get from our little town to their little town on a bus, is amazing!

I'd like to think that kindness is a gift that we can pass onto one another and that it should never be asked of us but instead just given . i live a very fulfilled life and i think that it is because of the kindness of others. my friends suprise me all the time knowing when i'm happy and laughing along with me or knowing when i'm sad knowing how to cheer me up. i am truly grateful for the kindness of human nature

Hi Pose dear! I am always surprise when an unexpected kindness is bestowed on me. Such unexpected kindness is a miracle from above. I always consider it as a blessing and it is a reminder that God loves me. I have experienced such unexpected kindness from family, friends and strangers. It is a very welcoming surprise and a great blessing that one can ever receive. Take care and blessings to you. lovelots..faith

How true! Just watch some parents with their children. The ones that are patient and soft spoken have relatively well behaved children, the ones who scream and threaten have children that are holy terrors. You get what you give is a good lesson here, so be kind to someone who others don't consider worthy of it. You'll receive it back multiplied.

I love quotes. I have a whole file of them started. They cause me to think and in even some odd ways at times. Brings us to the reality of life as well. Ah, yes kindness that catches us by surprise is the best. Makes it even sweeter because it was unexpected. We are all as Angels with one wing... and in order to fly we must embrace one another. Always liked that one.

I have always admired kind people without any personal or selfish intentions. I always admire them and follow the same act they are doing from the heart. But to realize more of the wonders of kindness, I suggest you watch the movie PAY IT FORWARD because it is the best movie about kindness I have ever seen. It made me cry though and made me wish at the end, "I hope the movie will be a reality." Wish that all people will be that kind so that we could make this earth a better or rather the best place to live in.

It brings to mind an Oprah show. She did a show on Random Acts of Kindness. It was one of my favorite shows. After that I try do little things for people even if its just a simple complement on something they did that day. I dont watch her shows often but was lucky enough to get to see that one.
