Do you prefer to write short or long responses to discussions?

Whenever I write responses, I just write what comes to my mind; if the topic is something where I can write a big paragraph, I write and then I comment and it goes on. Sometimes, it also happens that I write some short responses, though not a one or two line response. Do you pick discussions, where you can only write long responses? Or do you just do things as the mood takes you at that point of time?

Hi Kalav....While responding to discussions I usually pick discussions started by my friends. Then the lenght of my comments depends on the topic alone.Sometimes I have a long comment to make ,sometimes its just short and sweet. It all depends on the topic that has been referred to in the discussion. But as far as possible I try to shorten my responses since very lenghty responses need too much of patience for writing and reading which I feel is unnecessary.....Also very often my mood also determines the length of comments I add, though on an average I write atleast 3 or 4 sentences for each discussion........

I prefer to write a short response. The simple and clear one is my choice. I don't want others to feel bored to read it. If it's a long response, usually it is a complicated discussion and therefore I need to write more for my response. I love China

Hello kalav56! It really depends on the discussion. There are some discussions that no matter ho I tried to be long, there's really nothing I can say about it. So if you will notice, my responses varies. I have some long responses and there are some short responses. But what important is what I said does makes sense.

Hi kala, I too am like you, i just write what comes to my mind when i respond. But i like ti make it at least 4-5 sentences long..I write short sentences if it is a continuous discussion where i am acknowledging someones contribution or so..I generally pick discussions that interest me, so that i have something to add to the discussion

Kala I think, the length on my posts depends on the discussion, how I relate to it or how much I can write about it and also the frame of mind I am into at that point in time. Generally I start with my friends and there I have the privilege to write my heart out. I do not hold back and they love it. There are a few however who find it a burden to go through the whole response. Its then that they comment as HOW DID YOU MANAGE? or COULD YOU REALLY?, even when my response has it all! My years of experience here has taught me how do to communicate the same differently to different people. Like, I have the liberty and inclination to write whatever I want to here because its YOU. Picking discussions is mostly done on basis of the time and the mood frame. Sometimes, when I am bogged down and have little time I would rather respond to some objective kind of discussions, which are easier to cater to with less time in hand. But when I am uninhibited and spontaneous I just love evocative narrations. I have always tried to make sense and my endeavor comes through when I get explanatory posts. Thanks Kala. Your posts are very close to what I like. I really look up to yours for they enrich my posts as much as they enrich me.

Very sweet and thanks a lot for those encouraging words. At times, we think that our discussion topic is an interesting one but it is not perceived by others as interesting.Perhaps, as you pointed out everyone seems to be in different frames of minds at particular moments. That is why we get varied number of reponses for different discussions.I am a big chatterbox , and keep writing a lot like what Arthi pointed out.Sometimes I curb my impulse and make it short.

Kala! Hi! Whenever I read a discussion and think about responding it, I do not think whether I am going to write a long or a short reply. If the discussions appeals me and I can contribute something, I keep on writing to the extent possible. I wish to write in such a manner so that the host could understand my views and what I wish to convey to him/her. I do not want my response to be too lengthy because I think that if a response it too long, it might become boring for the host. I try to be precise and to the point and stick to the topic. My intention always remains that I should write something substantial and my response should be meaningful. All in all, I prefer to pen down a response, which could be termed an 'average' response, not too long and not too short. Deepak

Hi DEEPAK! Rose and you have both mentioned that the host must not get bored or impatient. That is great!Once, wehn I was in college a classmate said precisely the same thing,;we were asked about how a conversationalist must be,and the teacher replied that when a person gets aware of the fact that he ought not to bore another, then it never happens.Thank you and have a great day!

Hi Kala! I did not read Rose's response, before writing mine, however, we more or less resonded in the same manner. I think 'moderate' is the best course of action, excess (either negative or positive) of anything is not good. Many thanks for appreciating my views. Have a great day!

When i write responses to discussion, it depends on the the topic. If it needs a detailed explaination, that would make my responses long. But if ever the wholo thought and idea is already said then, i guess my response would be enough for readers to understand.

True.Sometimes, the topic is so simple and ordinary that you would get only mild variations and there would not be much to write.Thank you.

It all depends on the discussion. Some only require a short response, while others require a longer response. I don't really have a preference, I just like to reply to those discussions that interest me and I feel I can add something to.

yep thats exactly what i do, dont really stress myself too much on it, it just depends on the post, and same for the preference thing, just go for the thing which comes in mind

Just like you said it depends entirely on my mood and the kind of discussion. Also sometimes how well I know the person whose discussion I am responding to. Writing long responses surely pays our time spent in myLot well but sometimes there isn't anything more to add on to and then I prefer to keep my big mouth shut! See I have again started going on and on so I will stop here as I think you got the meaning of this response by now. Have a nice day!

I got the meaning Arthi and don't worry ;here you have a companion with a big mouth. If you see, I have only 1000 and odd points in my bracket and Ihave been a member for three years.Half the time, when I used to write responses, especially to a number Of 'Perspectives' responses earlier, it used to be long winded. There was aslo a novelty in typing then.Short and sweet , as Rose said, must be our guiding factor I guess!Nowadays,I makeit slightly shorter.

Long or short - this depends on the discussion topic. There are some topic you just can not respond within few lines if you are to do justice to the topic. In such cases I write long response and if the topic is so so I write at least three sentences.

If the subject is of interest to me and I have something really to share, I don't mind posting long replies. As you said, I too type out what comes to my mind. I have one added idea about it. Read this: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1927207.aspx I have already made out some 4 Helium articles out of my Mylot writings (by some polishing here and tinkering there).

Ummm well i do prefer to write long and meaningful responses, but yea some posts are sort of just yes and no, so to them i dont round things off just say yes or no, otherwise i try to give my best, including suggestions my views, concern and all, but yea even I'm not too specific about choosing discussion for such long replies its kind of ok ok type, i go for eye catching things, and which too are of my interest.

When I am responding to a discussion... I am like you, I just write what comes to mind. I do try and make them at least a couple of lines long because I don't really see the point in responding to a discussion if all your going to write is a one liner or something... but sometimes one liners is all that i can come up with for that discussion. I don't pick discussions based on how long of a response I think I might be able to give. I pick discussions based on what I think I can response too..

Yes I agree with you. In a way, some discussions, you just can't write a long response, as it only needs a short one and doesn't have much to write about. I like to write quality posts, however I don't specifically look for discussions in which I can do long responses. I'd respond to any discussion that catches my eye.

I usually write medium-length responses to discussions. I don't like to be too long winded because I want whoever is reading the post not to get bored! But at the same time, I want to make sure I'm giving enough information to get my point across. I tend to pick discussions that will allow me to stay in this "mid-sized" area, as well.

I honestly all depends on what the discussion is about or what the question is. A lot of times I find posts that ask for one word answers and sometimes it's hard to expand on those answers. Other times I find I can write paragraphs. I do often wonder how much of a difference it means in our pay.

Hi kalav56. In my part it depends on the topic and on my mood. If I feel to type long response for certain topic then better but if not that's quite bad for me. But I really pick a topic where I can respond longer since I know something on the given situation. Though I noticed that most of the time it is mood that really takes everything and of course the time available.
