The Texas Governor was a little hot under the collar today. He has threatened to Secede from the Union! I believe we have been here before. I never thought that history would repeat itself in just quite this way again, but maybe this will finally shake up the Government enough to get them to behave!!! I was switching stations and cannot remember if it was CNN or MSNBC. I don't usually watch those stations, but someone called me and said to check this story out. Do you think he will do it? Do you think he should do it? Do you think this will cause other states to follow suit? What the hell is going to happen now? Shalom~Adoniah

Well he said it was a possibility. But that he did not see a reason for Texas to do it. More is being made out of this than there need be. All states have that right in the constitution but Texas has further assurance of their right. People forget history. Texas was a country when it joined American. It's own country. It was not really sure it wanted to be a part of America. So in the contract that was drawn up and signed by both governments sasy that if at any time Texas decides it wants to leave for any reason it is allowed to. There was no time limit put on it. Texas is free to walk when ever they want or any reason. Now if htey really did it I am not saying our government would not do try to force them to stay. But if htey did they would violating the constitution and in breach of the contract they signed with Texas. Which could mean a lot of trouble for the US.

I am pretty sure that they would try to make them stay. If Texas did decide to leave other states would start talking. I doubt that any would secede, but they would start talking. Shalom

I agree whole heartedly, but when did the Government ever do anything that was rational? Shalom

That would be the worst thing for them to do...if they used force to make them stay. We are still feeling the effects of the civil war today. A lot of resentment still exists. Force would cause open hostilities. And not just from Texas.

If this is what it takes to make our Government to listen... I think we all should follow Texas' lead! enough is enough already!

The rest of the states cannot make good their threat like Texas can. It was best that Texas made the threat, since they can actually leave without being told, "Oh not you cannot". The rest of us could be stopped with deadly force. Just not a good thing! Shalom

I found it rather amusing, to be honest. If Texas were to secede from the union wo would Perry call instead of FEMA or other federal government agencies when things like wild fires, hurricanes and tornadoes happen? Nobody likes to pay taxes but it seems like most everyone wants the services those taxes provide. Annie

oh those poeple go beyond not liking to pay taxes.....they actually do not pay them. WHile the rest of us grite out teeth and do it anyway. we may not like it but we pay it. But not them....they are too good for that. paying taxes is only for us little people...not our elected elite.

[i]"Nobody likes to pay taxes"[i] Yeah, especially Tim Geithner and some others in Obamas administration.

Texas is one of the states with a soviergnty resolution in the works. It isin't secesion though, just the state of texas asserting it's constitutional authority and soviergnty. Secesion, as I have said before, is a dangerous road for a state to take.

I agree. It would also set a bad example for some other angry states. Texas has a contract with the Gov.,albiet a very old one that would allow it to leave the Union legally at anytime. It was written when it came into the Union and should still be in effect. I do not believe anything was ever changed. This makes Texas a little different from the other 50 states. Shalom

No Adoniah, I did not catch the Texas Governors broadcast. Why does he want to Secede? Is it over the Stimulus situation or the tax issues? I was waiting for someone to answer your post but no such luck, so far. Lol! Happy MyLotting....

The state of Texas is just disgusted like the rest of us. The one thing in their favor is that they have the right to leave at anytime they want to. Uncle Sam cannot stop them. They were independant when they opted to join the U.S. and they have a contract that protects their rights to that independance if they should ever choose to exercise it. Shalom

Well if we do secede we are one of the few state in the USA that can support ourselves. If we choose not to export the things that make Texas strong then how will the USA heat their homes in the winter. There is much to be said by us Texans about this subject, but usually in jest. I cannot see it happening, but have known all of my life that we can. It would take more than just a governor saying he is thinking about it though. I simply cannot see it happening. But what is that saying about dividing the enemy. Divide and ... Are we really being pushed in that direction and can we let it happen. It would be the beginning of the in and shalom would be the last thing that would happen unless you count the end of the world as we know it as peace being with us.

Here is an interview with Gov Perry's comments after the Austin Tea party. You know that every thing said at these tea parties is going to be taken out of contest or blown up by the ususal news media. Deebomb, I did not read about it in the paper, I heard Him say it from his own mouth on the News. I would not have written about it if it was just a stupid misquote from a paper. I do not trust the media, but I do trust a direct statement from the "horses mouth". Shalom

My husband and I are thinking of moving to Texas because he can't stand the Illinois winters. Wow - we are in the process of getting him a residents visa (he's British) would this mean we would both have to apply for residents visas to move to Texas (LOL). Seriously though the USA has to be hitting rock bottom under the present government for a Governor to think this way. It is time for a change in Washington and I don't mean just in the White House - I mean the lot - too many in the house and senate have been there far too long and some of them are way too old for the job they have. It's time to get rid.

Idon't think that the Governor is actually serious. I think he is just angry and wants the Country and Obama and the Congress to know just how angry he is! Shalom

I did not hear about this but anything to shake up government and get them to behave can't be a bad thing. can it?

I will vote for it, but of course the left will say that Texas only wants to secede because we have a black president and we are a bunch of racist. Not because we love freedom and do not want to be part of a socialist/communist country.

Hats off to Govenor Rick Perry of Tx. Here is a man with some back bone. He's one governor that's not going to be dictated by the US goverment. He has declared a resolution affirming Texas Sovereignty under the 10th Amendment. In other words "Don't Mess with Texas".
