i usually take a bath at night before going to sleep. when my aunt found out about this, she advised me not to because it is bad for my body. i reasoned out that it makes me at ease feeling clean and fresh before going to bed. she told me that i may be a hard headed now but when i get old, i may regret doing this because it will have some effects on the future. what do you think?? is she telling me the truth??

Well, if she didn't give you a logical reason for that, then maybe she is just believing in something that someone told her long ago. For all I know having a bath doesnt really hurt anyone. In fact most people do it for the reasons you mentioned. And in tropical countries, people have bath more than three times a day. bourne

I have no answer for you as to whether your Aunt is right or wrong on the timing of taking a bath. But, I have read that we all probably take more baths than we actually need to. Many of us fail to realize that a wash-cloth, with water and a quick "rub off bath", like they did in the old days- just might save our skin from the signs of aging. I'm like you, though... I like the bath at night thing - the best. It relaxes me more.

Well I like to take a bath at night myself, it helps me relax a lot. I am not sure if it is bad for you or not, but I have never heard of that before. I guess I would have to do some reaserch to know for sure. What my question is why does your aunt think it can be bad for you? Let me know thanks and happy mylotting to you as well.

because in my aunt's younger years, she's taking a bath at night also and now that she is old already she have observed that lots of illness have come out of her which she concluded that it was due to the bathing at night time.

Don't believe your aunt. There is no scientific evidence proving that taking a bath at night is bad for you. In fact it is relaxing to take a bath at night after a long busy day.

I believe your aunt is right. My dad also told me not to bath at night too, saying that, during night time, it will be a lot colder. Exposing your body to cold, may make your esteem down and cause you to have low immune. And in special cases, washing your eyes also at night was told to cause blindness as well.

That's ridiculous. A hot bath makes the body nice and warm and there is time to dry off and put pyjamas on before it gets cold. The blindness from washing eyes at night...that's weird and just not true...how can you believe such rubbish?

After reading the responses here and the comments...in particular those within response 10, I'm rather alarmed. To see someone assume some authority on this subject and give incorrect information is disturbing. To see this sort of ignorance in the 21st Century is quite shameful. Are these people from third world countries where education is not the norm and where this sort of medicine doctor, old wives tale scenario is normal?

I don't think it's bad for you at all. I take showers and have taken them in both the morning and the evening. Sometimes when I want to relax before bed, I will take my shower at night. I think showers at night are fine for you and may be a nice thing to do before bed.

She may belive she is telling the truth. But im 53 and when i take bath at nite i dont feel any difference between bathing in the morning or at nite. My dad used to take his at nite everynite. Presonally i prefer morning because i dont like a wet head in bed or bed hair the next day. But if the weather is cold and i need to go out the next day i perfer to bath the nite before. Dont want to be out side with wet hair in cold weather. I think it doesnt matter if its morning or nite.

I have been around a long time and have never heard such a thing. It sounds like an old wives' tale. Where did she get her information? Ask her where she learned of this and look into it. I would be interested but I doubt that her advice holds any water (play on words, lol).

I would have to say no, don't beleive your aunt. I don't know for sure but I am willing to bet it is not that bad for you if at all because 1. if it is at night then why would ot not be bad all teh time? whether you're sleepoing or not? Plus then shouldn't we all just be careful not to bath too much? 2. I hav enever heard thi sbefore so I would say it is an old wives tale. If it were true, or true enough to harm you, then I'm sure some kind of scietific evidence woul dhave been made known before now warning everyone about bathing at night haha.

I don't think taking a bath at night is bad, as you said it relaxes you and it make you feel comfortable, that's good, if you have rest a while after doing some heavy work then it's ok to take a bath. you can sleep well too which is very important.

yes, I heard of it. I am not sure where I got this information, maybe from newspaper, but it is real having statement like it; having a bath in the morning after getting up is better, but I am not sure it is true or false either. as so many ppl take bath before sleeping, and it also seems reasonable to do it. I have no idea. ==

I don't think there is anything wrong with taking a bath before going to sleep. I think it actually makes you feel more comfortable while sleeping as it makes you fresh and relaxed during your sleep. It is probably a good thing but wasting water, haha. Taking a bath also makes you more refreshed in the morning and therefore, more energised when going to work or to school. Hope this information helps you.

I am not sure but that is what my mom and my mom in law tell me too. I guess we should still consider their advice since they are much wiser with experience. I think it has something to do with your body being tired from moving around the whole day. My mom would tell me that it would be better to go to bed dirty rather than to suffer the pain or discomfort when I am older. If we are feeling sticky then she would advice us to wipe ourselves with wet towelletes dipped in warm water.

well.. i thought elders advised us not to take a bath at night was due to the fact that since it was cold at night and all our hair would be wet ..so there is a good chance that we would catch cold... dunno about any other side effects..

there is something with old people from the old school of thought and this bath thing at night. even if they say the skin will dry out the natural oils come back a few hours after bathing so there is no comprehensible reason not to take a bath twice a day. i really don't know with that old school of thought. but i think once they get to smell me without taking a bath at night all of the members of that old school of thought would all change their minds .

Your aunt is definitely right. Our body should have a proper treatment like taking the right time of bathing. I believe to what the elders tolf to us, we may dont have any feeling of sickness at this time but in the future our body will get the cost of everything bad we have made while we were in the stage of valiancy. You know, there's nothing bad if you would obey what she told you, im very sure that she only wants the good for you. You wont regret anything if you follow her. Do not disregard also her instruction 'cause you will earn great things out of those reminders.

No! If you feel dirty then just take your bath! Don't listen to your aunt who is probably wrong anyway. If you feel st ease because you are clean then that means it is actually good for your body! The only thing that is bad is sleeping with your hair wet..
