Do you enjoy exploring cemeteries?

Angels Among Us - My favorite statue at the cemetery. I love it. It speaks volumes to me.

I always find it interesting how many people think cemeteries are creepy places because I always thought they were very beautiful and I love walking through them and looking at all the graves and everything. It's one of my favorite places for meditating and thinking. It's very peaceful and relaxing to me. Below is one of my favorite statues to visit at the local cemetery. So what do you think? Do you like exploring cemeteries?

No. I live right by a cemetery and don't think I ever stepped foot in it. I have better things to do than looking at a bunch of stones.

That's a shame. As others have pointed out, I don't think it's so much about the stones as the history and the imagining the people that the stones represent. Maybe you're just not that type of person, though. :)

come to think of it, people shouldn't get freaked out around cemeteries, because we know that those people lying there are in peace already since they are resting now from living and will surely be at peace. I notice too that it is a very quiet place to just clear your head about everything, but I guess cemeteries at your place are placed in a very arranged manner, the ones we have here are just plain dirty, especially the public ones, its not a very good site, but public cemeteries are very peaceful to be at.

I love cemeteries, they are beautiful in a spring sun, even better in autumn. Trees shed their leaves, and it’s an atmosphere of beautiful decay. And we all gonna end up there, like it or not. So yes, they do invite to think and meditate about things that are a little further from our nose’ end than the everyday chatter in our minds. And only classical music comes to mind…..

I got interested in exploring cemetaries when I started working on my families genealogy. It is very interesting, the head stones you fine, particularly in very old, small country cemetaries. I also started taking rubbings of the headstones of ancestors I would find, where the stone was still intact. It is very peaceful.

I am not sure...but the word explore might not be the exact one to explain or describe about how or what I feel like doing when I am in a cemetery. For one, yes I must agree that I love the views. Secondly, when I go to a cemetery, I usually take pictures. My friends find it weird. Me, on the other hand find it interesting. I just feel that it looks like a hint from the past, at the same time...with a good cam in hand, you can be very creative.

I love taking pictures in cemeteries, too. I've always found them fascinating, and, like you've said, with a little creativity you can get some really amazing shots!

i would have to agree with you about them being beautiful i find them peaceful as well i like looking at all the headstones and seeing when people come and when they go how long they lived i think is important for each one of us to know something about someone that lived in this amazing and beautiful world that we never got a chance to met. or maybe i'm just warped but i don't care i like them and will continue to go and walk throught hem like i always have. i would also like to go and visit haunted olaces as well i think it is all just so neat.

I like going to cemeteries. There is a lot of history there and its really quite peaceful. A friend and I found a real old cemetery up in the mountains in Colorado once. It was real interesting. It was fun to stand there and think back to what hardships those people had. When I went to New Orleans in February, we visited a few cemeteries. That was real interesting, since they don't bury below ground. There were some really neat stautes and it was intersting to see all the tombs.

I do enjoy exploring cemeteries too for some reason. I guess the history that can be found there has a lot to do with that. Fortunately, in addition to visiting passed away family members and friends, I also have another reason for exploring cemeteries, geocaching. I actually went to a cemetery in April for that reason. And likely if not for geocaching I never would have visited this place because it's practically out in the middle of no where even though it's roughly a five minute drive from my sister's house. There was this pretty monument/statute of an angel at a woman's grave. At any rate, I don't think cemeteries are creepy places either.

There are people like Rey Valera, a good composer who can contemplate in cemeteries.I however, can't. I just need a quiet place like my house to think ,explore and enjoy

Cemeteries are places that are full of history. I don't find them creepy at all. We don't visit them often because we are not obsessed or anything. We like to read the head stones because they say so much about the place. When we have visited we always bring the children and sometimes we will have a picnic. In our area there are real small cemeteries that are way off in the middle of nowhere. Those are often the most interesting.

I am creeped out by cemeteries. I don't know why but I'm just not comfortable in that sort of environment. But, reading some of the comments posted before mine have somewhat helped me become a bit more at ease with cemeteries.
