I just purchased a new Laptop and when it was delivered it did not have any manual, you have to use the Users guide on line or the help menu, there were no restore disks or not disks for the preloaded software. Is this the way computers are being shipped today here it is you figure out how to use Labelflash but do directions on how to use it and nothing shows up on the help menu or the Users Guide on line. I am getting ready to write a very nasty letter to the company and the retailer I purchased it from. Is this how things are for others on mylot with new computers?

When it comes to needing restore disks - you should have them, but you don't always use them (depending on your hard drive). If it's a dual core with a physical partition, that means that there's probably a back up drive on there with all the manufacturer presets. As for the user manual, they usually come with one. A physical manual is necessary in case you need to do something to your computer while it's off, or if something has happened and the computer won't turn on. My guess is that the manufacturer forgot to ship it (assuming the lap top is brand spanking new). Look up the list of included items with the computer, and see if it's on there. If it is, you have reason to complain. You NEED those restore disks in case something happens and your back up drive is damaged. That Users Guide isn't an absolute must, and you can probably print it out from online, but if you think you should have gotten it with your computer (and you probably should have), then you should call the manufacturer and tell them you want the User's Guide and restore disks. If they try to tell you that you don't need the disks, point out that it's kind of hard to restore manufacturer defaults when the back up drive is damaged or corrupted. There is no reason they shouldn't have given you the restore disks.

Actually, now that I think about it, if you have a back up drive, you could probably burn all that data onto a disk yourself if you don't want to deal with customer service. That's probably a better way to go about it.

GM Bob, Not acceptable. You need to politely demand a manual from either the retailer or the manufacturer. I recall my first Dell when I couldn't log on, they said (by phone)"Go online to our help section." Not helpful when I couldn't get online. "Don't you have a second compter?" "I'm a noob in computerland so no." The general attitude was "tough luck" until I mentioned the service contract I had purchased FROM THEM. I was directed to the right tech department and that was it. You need and deserve a manual. They should be capable of mailing you one. Good luck.

The biggest problem faced by computer companies is Custormer Service. You would think they would learn.

Hi.. First of all if you had mentioned your laptop brand it would be greatful. in manier brands they are not providing any operating system in built as they are giving you laptops at cheaper price. and as you are not having any OS with your laptop of course you need not to be given any back up disk. yeah driver DVD should be there and if it is not you can just download from it's official sites. and user manuals are also available in pdf format which you can download from the net. Branded companies like Sony, Dell, HP, Compaq are providing user manuals with laptop only but in case of missing you can get it from their site. there is nothing much to panic. :-) Good Luck

You must have gotten a Dell. Even my Dell desk top I got about 4 years ago did not come with that stuff. While the HP Compaq laptop I got a couple of years later came with it.

Well, just recently I bought a new laptop for my wife. It contained a users manual, a recovery disc and all other items necessary. I really had no problem with it. Even the windows operating system was already installed and all I did was have it activated. I even brought it to the supplier and had the hard disc partitioned. They also did it for free. Maybe you should complain about this since I think you are always entitled to such things. I do believe that they come along with the product.

When I had bought my laptop it came with a manual and also a CD manual. I had also received the restore disks and it came with all the disks for the preloaded software. I have no idea why your laptop didn't come with all these maybe the company had forgotten to give you those things LOL. Can I just ask where did you buy your laptop from so that other MyLot users including myself don't purchase from there.

So depends which kind of additional documentation you want..surely as regards user guide normally you refer to online guide or computer system presentation wich normally load when you first configure your computer....

I think its better to write a letter to the retailer for your easy access. If you doesn't have a manual then it is difficult to access,I think it requires additional charges.

Restore disk is usually additional cost. They basically back up your system so you can get a system restore. Bummer for the manual. You should call them so they will ship you one. I bet if you tell them they will be glad to help you on that since it is there job to give you this simple service they promised you when you made this purchase like a manual. I bought an acer and now will never buy one again because it over heats. But I had couple of friends that didnt get the CDs because it was an additional cost for a restore cd.
