Here is a quote from Obama about one way to save $$ and help the USA with the financial crisis: "Look, it's an all volunteer force," Obama complained.. "Nobody made these guys go to war. They had to have known and accepted the risks. Now they whine about bearing the costs of their choice? It doesn't compute.." "I thought these were people who were proud to sacrifice for their country," Obama continued.. "I wasn't asking for blood, just money.. With the country facing the worst financial crisis in its history, I'd have thought that the patriotic thing to do would be to try to help reduce the nation's deficit. I guess I underestimated the selfishness of some of my fellow Americans." I am astounded that the president of the United States would put this kind of burden on our brave military heroes. How about you?

I am waiting for Obama to say "They can just eat cake". The man spent 174 million dollar of our money to get himself inaugurated even though he could have done it for free. All he had to do as stand in the Oval Office with the Chief Justice and he would be done. Then there is all the money he spent to have a date with his wife in Paris. Obama wants to gripe about the health care cost of our veterans good grief!

Then his wife stayed in Paris with those cute little girls and holidayed with her Mother - all at our expense.

I was thinking the same thing. He is having his dates in Paris and living the high life at taxpayer expense while throwing a mere crumb to US citizens who are the neediest.

It's fake. You've got to check these things out. I knew right away it sounded far too ridiculous to be real. http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/did_obama_accuse_veterans_of_selfishness_and.html

Are you ready for this...sit down...THANK YOU TASKR!!! I was reading this and thinking to myself "no way, NO WAY would any President dare say something like this." I was going to do a search to see if this quote was legitimate when I read your post. Again, thank you for standing up for the truth even when I know you're not a supporter of our President. Annie

I appreciate that you checked out the facts, but CNN also did a story on it. http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/03/10/veterans.health.insurance/index.html http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/03/17/obama.veterans/ Some of the email fact-check sites are politically motivated and facts should be checked from several sources to verify. I'm not sure the quote is exact but the idea is the same. It appears the proposal has been abandoned due to objections by a multitude of Congresspeople and media sources.

Some factcheck sites are politically motivated, but they are generally pretty accurate. The only one I've caught intentionally distorting the facts on an issue was Snopes. I'm not disputing what he wanted to do with veteran's health care. That's old news. He's already backed down from that since his own party opposed him on that one. My main point was that the quotes were bogus. Of that I have no doubt.

And this from a guy who got a real big party when he was inaugurated. It sounds like the old "do as I say, not as I do," He expects the veterans to sacrifice money after they had taken time from their jobs to go fight in the military, to get sick from all the chemical weapons used in the Gulf War, the Vietnam War, to get sick from Agent Orange, to have visions each night of the horrors what they went through and seeing their buddies blown to bits. The sooner Obama is gone the better. He is not acting like an American President, but more like an African despot. And he is using the old method used by many African Americans and of their ancestors, blackmail and making the other person feel guilty to gain his own ends.

I agree with you. It was a lame suggetion wanting the US military to pay their own medical expenses. Let Obama volunteer to give up his government paid medical insurance to save the tax payers some money!

Oh, because Obama's helping reduce the deficit by taking his wife out on $100,000 dates to Broadway every other weekend. Yes, that right there is the height of unselfishness, having taxpayers sacrifice hard-earned money so that these dates can happen. This is incredibly sickening coming from anyone, much less a so-called commander-in-chief. He just does not get it, and I don't think he wants to get it.

I don't think Obama has a clue about "it." I don't think he cares one bit about the USA, except to have the power his position carries.

I can't believe such dignified man and a US president as that would utter such words. That is just blatant disrespect for the sacrifices of US veterans who shed their blood for the very American way of life that Obama enjoys now. That statement just reeks of hypocrisy. If he really wanted to execute measures to help solve the deficit maybe he should start riding commercial airplanes rather than the comfort og Air Force One or he starts eating from middle class diners rather than dine with 5,000 bucks caviar dressed in 10,000 bucks Armani that are paid by the American taxpayers. Those veterans have show their patriotism by sacrifing their lives and I don't think mr commander-in-chief has earned the right to lecture them about patriotism.

Evidently the quote itself was bogus, but the fact remains that Obama proposed to have the members of the military pay for their own medical costs. And also that he is living the high life while millions of Americans are losing their jobs and houses every day.

Nobama has to stop trying to copy off of FDR and do whats right, if I remember right FDR's policies kept us in the great depression much longer then everyone else until WW2, Big government doesn't work, cut taxes, capital gains and give the private citizen the gumption to invest and go after the american dream.

He doesn't have a clue about how to fix the ecomony and I hate to see him trample all over our veterans who have given so much of themselves and many of whom have come home injured. How are they going to buy private insurance on their salaries and especially that will cover their pre-existing conditions (many of which are as a result of having fought in a war)?

He seems to totally lack empathy for the US military, and that is a scary thing since he is designated as Commander-in-Chief.

Direct quote or not...its wrong and horrifying that anyone would think in such a way. I would not put it past him to say something of this sort...wether it was eaxctly this or something ina similar sense.
