I did a discussion on "what would you do if the internet went down" Then just today my computer DIED!!! It over heated because it was so hot outside so then I let it cool down and tried to restart it. IT WOULDN'T start!!! OMG!!!!I started panicking banging on the power button. Still nothing. I started crying and called my son asking him if I could borrow his computer till I got another one.I never realized how upset I would be if my computer died , till it happened to me. Waiting on my son to bring me his computer was mysery. I laid on the bed and cried. Have you ever had your computer quit on you and how did you handle it/? By the way I just tried to start my computer again. It's back on so now I have two . one for back up!!! lol

Glad to hear that youve got it up there in the end. I would reccoment giving your CPU fan and heatsink a good blow out to get all the dust out of it, that is the cause of alot of over heating problems. If I was to loose my PC I would feel so naked!

Take the whole fan and heatsink unit out of your computer, and you can use compressed air if you wish, or just give it a blow from your mouth. Take it outside though because a fair bit of dust may come out.

Try to clean up the computer and then try restarting it. IF it then works then install a fan in the computer to keep it from over heating.

Grrr I know the feeling. Yes, I have had a computer dying on me - more than one - often at the worst moments. It bothered the heck out of me, although I am fortunately in a position where I will always ( in theory ) have the possibility of having at least one computer working in the house. If mine brakes down, I will commandeer hubby's or one of the kids or try to get one of the old laptops to work for me LOL What bothered me more was the programs that I couldn't access from another computer, so the last time it happened I decided to get an external hardrive and save all my programs and actually run them from it. So now, I'm cool :) Glad that your problem is solved and that now you have a back up :):):)

Ok,it's a laptop. You have to be more careful with them since it's easy to block the fan. Some people, like my wife and daughter, use them on their laps and I always tell them to give their laptops some air once in a while. If you use it on a flat surface you can getting a cooling pad to put it on, it helps lower the temperature of your CPU. I wouldn't recommend taking your laptop apart if you aren't comfortable about it, get someone who knows how to do that if you think there's dust and dirt inside. With a desktop it's easy to clean it out since you only have to take off a side panel or the shell. The life of a CPU in a laptop can be a lot shorter than a desktop because of heating problems, remember to keep the vents unblocked.

Great info. Thanks. I have a laptop, a newer one, and it doesn't get hot yet, but I should probably get a cooling pad to set it on, huh? I like to have it on my lap, sometimes, but do not make a habit of it. The fan's air vent is on the side of this one and I can feel the air coming from it, usually warm. :o) Helpful posts.

Oh no Princess! It's like going cold turkey isn't it! I think a lot of us are guilty of turning into computer or internet junkies and when we lose our fix we are up the wall, we panic, we get anxious, irritable, moody or even start throwing things or do like you did and I wish I could and that is cry! Sometimes I wish I really could cry then it would help me so much, sorry to digress. Anyhow glad you are back with us and I hear you on losing the computer, wolfie turns into Incredible hulk or the Incredible sulk or both even!

I'm glad you got everything going again. I lost my other computer also as it went down too. I had all kinds of trouble with it and got it fixed several times. I have a new computer also and will get the old one fixed sooner or later.

Oh, that's funny..At least you have the back-up lol. In order to avoid that thing again, please follow the following: 1. Check the system unit (CPU - the box like thing) if the fan is still woking... If it does, then there might be a problem on the monitor. 2. Try to check the monitor if you can see some light on it... but if you can't see anything on the screen, try to plug it in a different power source. 3. If the system unit's fan isn't working, maybe the CPU's power supply has the problem, so you better go to the nearest computer repair shop and try to consult them.. Hope that make sense.. Have a great day!

I ever had my desktop computer get highest temperature until I smell something in this machine, so I turn off my PC (not force it until explode). I open the CPU, and add more fan to cooling my PC. Better not place your laptop in small room, your laptop also needing air. Check the temperature, if the fan also have small rpm just change it for recommended rpm (Usually more than 5000 rpm). Well done, your computer can back to starting.

Try to clean your computer, get away all the dust and dirt. You can do this by blowering it, open your cpu, clean your memory from dust.. Also it is advisable to add exhaust fan for your CPU, try to place your CPU in a much cooler place to avoid overheating on the CPU. You can ask help from any computer experts to assist you in your cleaning..^_^ Hope this will help..
