BEFORE YOU TELL ME YOUR AGE, read first to what i got to say... I AM NOT ASKING FOR YOUR AGE. what i would like to know is that if you are offended if someone asks "how old are you anyway?" the reason why i asked is because i've heard from accounts that there are actually cultures and people who are offended when they are asked for their age. my uncle once told me when i was a teenager that when he went to a foreign country, he never asked people how old they were. apparently, it was taboo to ask such a question. he said that he had to sugarcoat the question just to get the information. so instead he would ask older women, "HOW YOUNG ARE YOU?" by using such flattery, it wasn't hard for him to get the information and the people were not offended by the question. so what do you think? should i ask you how old you are? or is that a bad idea?

I'm old enough to know better & too young to give a crap. It used to be rude to ask a woman her age, but that seems to have changed over the last 50 years or so. I'm proud of my age so NO I don't get offended!!!

Personally I do not get offended when someon asks for my age. Age is one of the signs of maturity and independence. Sometimes I also do get compliments after I tell them my age. Some may say, you don't look like 25, some say, really, your 25 already? Some say, your 25 and yet you achieved this things already. Some people may feel the opposite and are offended when someone asks for their age. But I am different from them. I am not like that.

In the US it is considered rude to ask. Certain asumptions are made based on age ex all young people are tec savy ( not all are ) and older people hate change ( not always ture ) so many don't like that question. Of course for certain legal reasons it can be very important to ask. For myself I don't like it from someone I just met but once I get to know them a little I will most likly tell my age. Online a always do.

Yes, that is true. In most western countries you are not supposed to ask a woman her age.It is considered uncouth. But you can ask me my age anytime! I don't really care if anyone asks me my age.Right now I am young. But even when I am old I would not mind it at all. Everyone grows old, so why lie about it or hide it? What is age in any case? Just the number of times you were lucky enough to go around the sun. So to me, its not a big deal at all.

Hi tomjoad, I wouldn't mind at all if a person asked me how old I was. This is primarily because I am not at an age that people might consider "old." I think that people get offended by the question when they are at an age that could be considered "old" because they don't want to be perceived a certain way. However, I personally think age is just a number. Age is really about how you feel and how you act. That's all that matters.

I can't say that I get offended by it. But then again no one's really bothered to ask me. LOL It does seem odd that it isn't proper to ask such a question. It's not like it's rude or offensive, even though it might come off that way. And I can see how twisting it around can trick people into answering such a question. LOL Oh and I just turned 34 this month. So I'm a few years ahead of you, if you stated your true age on your profile, that is. Happy mylotting!

After you reach a certain age you begin to brag about it. I had an old aunt who had kept her age secret for many years and no one was certain how old she really was, but that was before she reached 80 years. One day she suddenly announces," I'm 80 years old next week, and I want a birthday party!"

Some people do get offended. I'm not sure why. If we are not old...we soon will be. It is just a fact of life. I'm old. There is not a thing I can do about it ...it kind of comes with being here for a long time. Sometimes I wonder why someone feels the need to know my age but it isn't a big deal. I wouldn't think of lying about it and I'm not offended at all. I do feel bad for those that don't accept their age for what it is. It has to be painful.

I won't mind other to ask how old am I. I understand some girls really mind to talk about their age. I'm female too. But different person will have different mind. Even though I don't mind ppl ask my age, but I will try to ask especially girls about their age. As I do not know who will mind and who will not.

i think it does not make sense at all since both of the question or either of the question is asking one thing and that is the number of years of our existence. i think it will only matter on how you will deliver or approach somebody with that question.

Well females are usually offended by that question, I believe in any state or country. However, if you asked me I would tell you with no problem. The reason is I don't look my age and people are usually in shock when I tell them. So its really fun especially when I tell them my daughters ages. They usually say you can't have a daughters that old. I love it!

We cannot avoid asking people their age at times when it is absolutely necessary, but women in general do not like when their age is asked especially when they are ageing, the best way is as you have mentioned is to ask how young one is? Men are not bothered in disclosing their age or weight also.

i don't care if somebody asks me personally..but i'd say 5 times out of ten it might get you slapped in my country.that's usually the biggest of the big no-no's to ask a woman.

It doesn't bother me for someone to ask, I kind of enjoy their reactions! I've always looked younger than I am, I remember getting offended when I was 18 and looked 14. When I was 21 I looked 16. I really don't mind when someone asks me now. I don't act my age, don't look it and half the time when someone asks me what my age is I have to take the year I was born and subtract it from the current year and sometimes I'm shocked at the answer! My kids keep better track than I do for me! **refusing to ever grow up**

I don't mind at all. I find getting older to be a wonderful thing. I had no idea that it was taboo in entire cultures. I just thought it depended on the individual. I never really ask someone their age unless we are friends. A stranger asking me my age before my name is a bit weird to me.

I am very careful to ask some else about age. I just wait until we know each other. After two or three times we meet with him, if they are asking about my family. On this time, it is easier to see the age of other who we know through facebook. But I just told him if they ask about my age. No problem ...

There are people who get offended but for me it's fine. When someone ask me about my age I always tell the truth and the common reaction is, really? You look younger than your age! lol really?
