Are you afraid to fly?

I travel by plane only about once a year...and I really love it. Today my daughter from Arizona was to leave New York where she was visiting my other daughter. Well their plane took off and was leaking fuel! They made a quick landing in Rochester NY then bussed everyone back to Syracuse. She said it was quite scary! Do you have a fear of flying? Have you ever had a close encounter with a plane mishap?

I don't fear flying and I but love traveling! Though for long flights, I try to keep myself distracted with my IPOD, or magazines.

Glad they were all safe and bussed back to Syracuse without anymore complications. Funny you mention this as I am flying next week. I don't like to fly. I will be real anxious the day before the flight and the day of the flight. Just not my fun thing to do but driving to New Mexico from the midwest would take me a day or more and I get too sleepy driving for long periods as I get older. I wouldn't sleep well either if I had to stop at a motel/hotel for one night alone.

I wouldn't either.....and I think of all the time wasted on the road!

The only time I am afraid while in a plane is when they turn and tilt towards the ground. If I happen to look out the window at that particular time I become a bit nervous- probably due to the fact that I am scared of heights. When the plane is flying straight it does not bother me at all. Because I have this problem I tend to try and get an aisle seat whenever possible when I fly.

I used to. I was convinced that if I got on a plane it will crash. And it wouldn't be fair to all the others. Well ,I now can fly. What happened? Why the change? I was ready to die if I had to on my first flight. I thought, okay ,kill me now ,I don't care. But I didn't die obviously.. It didn't crash and it was okay. But I am weird,I love turbulence.I rather feel the plane moving than nothing.

Before I had my kids I was not afraid to fly. I was nervous a bit but I had the "what could happen" sort of thinking. Now expecially because I have my kids with me when I fly I am scared. Not that I would not fly but I just have that fear that something might go wrong.

i am scared because i have had a lot of nightmares (That felt more like the dreams i have that have came true) that im in a plane crash and for awhile every time i had a dream like that i would wake up and turn on the news to see that one had crashed! i havent really had any bad experiences on a plane the few times i have flown but still im too psychic on some things to where i can just ignore it fully

I have never flown but I do look forward to going one day. I do not know how I am going to feel about it. It may be something that I only do once in my life. I will try it at least once.

When I was on my second flight ever it was a rough trip. I was 19 years old heading off to Tunisia for a week. The plane flew to Sfax via Tunis. There was much turbulence and I had coffee spilled over me. I was sick on landing and whilst descending I got severe ear pain. I was boarding a plane in Asia some years later and a member of cabin crew was handing everyone a newspaper. The front page story was a concord crash and photos were included. Oh my! I thought and I felt so nervous on that trip. I was so grateful when a friend gave me a pair of ear planes to try out. They are small plastic screw like things that I place into my ears. They stop all the ear pain because the regulate the pressure changes. I am sorry that your daughter has such a scary plane ride. It seems many planes need extra maintenance and more regular testing. Lately there have been some mishaps in the air and sadly a few plane crashes. I will continue to fly on planes because I am a keen traveler. The countries I wish to go to are all far away.

I've flown on planes quite a few times. When I was a kid, I didn't mind it, I guess I never really comprehended what was happening. These days I can get a little nervouse about flying, but it doesn't keep me from traveling.

I don't like flying because it will make my ear hurt really bad. Until now I cannot get used to flying, even though I've been flying for a few times. I never encounter mishap, but once I have to wait for 4 hours because the flight was delay and I pity my brother because he had to wait for a very long time, and secondly, when the flight about to take off, there are some passenger sick, so we have to wait until the matter is settle. That's about it for my experience. i don't know how can I able to prepare myself for a long hour of flight even it two hours flight has already make my ear and face feel really painful.

I just took my first plane ride this weekend, and I wasn't scared at all. i think its pretty exciting. We even had a rough landing when the pilot didn't bring the plane down level and we were thrown around quite a bit as we hit the runway. The only thing I didn't like was that my ears got plugged up for hours when we landed, because of the pressure change.

I have never really been on a plane, helicopter or any other flying device. I don't travel too much and have little opportunity to leave my hometown. However, whenever I think about the possibility I am a little scared. I know that actor Ben Affleck feels the same way. The idea that something so huge as an airplane can fly in the air still boggles my mind! A friend once took a plane. They encountered a storm and then hit an air pocket. It scared him pretty badly. Yet he still flies every once in a while!

I am not afraid of flying. If I do not eat properly and well prepared myself before flying, I will have air sickness. It happens to me couple times, and I really hate that.

Yes I do Jill, a big fear, I also have a Fear of heights, I have never flown and never want to as I know I would break into panic in a bad way I also suffer from Claustrophobia, so of course that would not help When my Children go on Holiday and fly (their Dad moved to spain) it scares me and for the 5 hours they are flying, I sit here in fear, till they send me a message to say they arrived safe

Yes... I am afraid to fly... I ahve flew once a very long flight from Hong Kong to San Fransisco, it was like 16 hours? or little more? I was squeezed the whole time in the flight... not fun at all and I don't particularly like when it is taking off, I felt like riding on a roller coaster which I don't like either... and sometimes it could get very rough as well... it is scary to me... I don't like to fly at all...

I am not scared of flying and I don't think I will be, though I never flew a plane with a mishap. I just watched the movie "The Spirit of St. Louis", which is about Charles Lindbergh flying over the Alantic ocean to Paris. It is a real good movie starring James Stewart. You should watch it.

The first and only time that I flew anywhere I was twelve I went by my self to Texas from Michigan, I loved it. I would fly again in a heart beat. I loved the way the cloud looked from above them. They looked like colored balls of cotton. I'm sorry that your daughter had such a fright, I hope she is feeling less shaken.
