Not A PerrrrrrFect Situation

I was sitting in the doctors office waiting to get in and two other ladys were sitting next to me and they were talking. The one lady told the story of how they needed a sofa real bad so they were listening to tradeo and they phoned about a couch someone had to sell, she said they went there and the couch was like brand new and they were asking 150.00 so they bought this couch and took it home. That night they heard a cat and thought it was outside as they don't have any pets. The next night the cat got louder so the hubby went to the back door looked out and told his wife there was nothing there. They had decided to curl up together on the couch to watch a rented movie and had the popcorn made and all when suddenly the cat got louder, finally they clued in that the cat was coming from the couch so they took the cushions off the couch and tried to reach in but no cat and now no more noise. The hubby went and got his tool box and took the back covering off the couch and there was the cat. They fed the cat that night but took it to the animal shelter the next day because they are not allowed pets in their apartment. They did get ahold of the previous owners of the couch and they said it wasn't their cat. Have you ever heard of anything so ridiculous?

wwwwww, that poor little kitty. It had to belong to the people that she got the sofa from, you know it did. They apparently just did not want to poor baby and did not want to claim it. I feel so bad for animals like that. The poor thing was a part of that family(in it's mind) and the people treated it with so little regard as if it was trash to go out the door. I hope the shelter find it a good home. This is a good but sad story. Thank you for sharing this. I have never heard of this happening before, not like that. I have heard of a cat being under the hood of a car and they went somewhere only to hear a noise coming from under the hood and there was a cat. The poor thing was searching for a warm place and crawled up under there and they left with it there not knowing it. The poor baby was lucky it did not get killed. They contacted the neighbor as it was their cat and they took it back home. I know of one that did when they started the car. Another good kitty ending and one sad one.

A lot of cats have been killed by sitting on top of a car motor. This story the lady was telling immediately made me think the previous owners of the couch knew darn well the cat was there they just didn't want to pay the price to get rid of it. How can people be so mean. Thank You for your response.

The story on the news that I heard said that a cat was in a sofa purchased from Good Will, and the owners took it back when it was found, it had crawled in from a hole torn in the bottom lining. I had a friend who found a hamster in her car when she was out driving. Scared her silly she did not like rodents. No clue where it came from.

This happened here where I live so I guess this type of thing happens from time to time but the whole story sounded fishy to me and I was thinking the whole time that the previous owners purposly placed the cat in the couch to get rid of it. Thank You for your response.

My thoughts excately. I can't believe the previous owners didn't know. I think they just didn't want the cat anymore and I do know for sure that there is a fee here for taking an unwanted animal to the shelter. We had a small dog that we had to give up about six years ago and we had to pay the shelter 35.00.

Actually if they were old and did not hear that good, they might not have known that the cat got into the couch. My son had a kitten and he had our old couch. The fabric was torn underneath so the kitten got inside. He looked for her all over the house, and then we heard this meow and my husband had to reach underneath, grab the kitty and pull her out. So that does happen. Kittens and cats just like to go inside sofas. It is dark and they want to rest. Unfortunately, things do happen.

Wow...that is quite the story....and quite tragic! That poor little furry person, locked away in the back of a couch! How the dickens could it get in their, if it took tools to get it out? I am so glad that they did find it...things could have been a lot worse, if they hadn't! Seems like the previous owners should have some knowledge of the situation, if they owned the couch...unless it was store in their garage. At least the poor little cat has some hopes of a home, now! Thank you for sharing. Cheers!

Absolutely I think the previous owners are responsible and with the luck I've had the last few months it's probably a good thing it wasn't me that bought the couch because it wouldn't have took me long to return the cat to them. Thanks again for being a loyal friend.

Yes, I've heard of it before. Not their cat? Were they keeping the couch in a barn? My husband's friend bought a car. He took it home and heard meowing the next day and scratching. Someone had locked the cat in the trunk. Previous owners of the car claim no knowledge and no cat. His friend could keep the cat where he was, but since he was military, I'm not sure how long before he was transferred and had to give the cat away. His name was "Big Head," my husband said. Huge head and small body.

Wow, imagine the surprise to them people. I had a cat who put her baby kittens inside the couch. Lucky for us we got them out and she didn't do it anymore. I also had a cat that tried to have her kittens in there, lucky for me again. I caught her in time going in there and got her out and then blocked the hole. I have a hole under the cushions from people plopping down. I covered it up with some cardboard. So I guess it really doesn't surprise me that a cat will get caught in a couch, poor kitty.

It sounds like the family just wanted to get rid of the cat. That is crazy. It is sad that the cat had to go to a shelter though.

I agree but one thing I do know is our shelter is really good they honestly do a good job of making every effort to find the little guys a good home.

The poor cat. I just bet the owners didn't want their cat anymore and knew the couch was going so they somehow put the cat in the sofa. Unless there are holes in the couch, a cat usually can't get into one by itself. Being the couch was like brand new tells me there were no spaces where the cat could find it's own way in.

I think just as you wrote it here. Either way I do hope the poor kitty gets a good home. We do have an excellent shelter that way, they do their level best to place an animal. Thank You very much for your response.

Yes, I've heard the story before... except it was a $27 couch, and it happened in Spokane. http://www.for-the-love-of-cats.com/CatFoundSpokaneCouch.html

oh my goodness that is so ridiculous! i cannot imagine the poor cat getting trapped behind the couch! i also cannot imagine the previous owner not knowing that the cat is there. most probably the cat is the reason why the couch is going for such a low price. i cannot think of any other reason why someone will sell away a almost brand new couch for $150. these people really ought to be whipped for putting the cat and the new owners through the ordeal.

Well I don't believe the previous owners knew nothing about the cat. I gave a trunk away one time and had almost the same incident. Only difference was we just happened to check it before they took the trunk and one of the kids had stuck the poor cat in there. We probably would not have even checked but you had to open the lid to get a good grip on it so when the lid came open out came the cat. The boys thought they were so slick about it though. They just insisted that those poor people that came to get it was trying to steal our cat. We decided to accept that story (as far as they were concerned)since we figured the lesson was learned. Raising boys is such fun!!!

Yeah right! Could they not have just taken the cat to the shelter? People are strange. I sincerely doubt the odds of the cat mysteriosly appearing in couch unbeknownst to ownwer, don't u think??

OMG! Poor cat... I think someone must have put it there just recently and purposely did that otherwise the cat must have been suffocated already. If this was true, what a stupid joke! How long can a cat survive in a covered place like that? *sigh* However, if it's happened by accident, luckily, it's not too late.

Yes I am sure the owners put the cat there purposely. Wonder how they'd like to be trated this way??? Thank You for your response.

Wow! but maybe it was their cat they just didn't want it back.. I wonder how much cat poop would be in that couch if the cat was in it awhile. And if the couch was in there house how would someone else's cat get into the couch? I know one couch my mom had had a small hole in the back and my kitten used to climb in to it and sleep for awhile or play..but it always came out. Lucky it was litter trained.

That happens more than we know I guess. I drove to work one day and as I stopped at a stop light a cat jumped out from under the hood. I guess he was hiding somewhere in there. I never saw him again. Wasn't even my cat.

I actually don't believe the previous owner. If it were her couch then of course she knew the cat was there. She probably put the cat there. Very creative & strange way of getting rid of an unwanted cat for sure. It is kind of odd that the cat managed to stay quiet while they looked at and loaded up the couch. Maybe the old ladies are making up stories??

You know the thought did cross my mind that the little ol lady had nothing better to do than tell a story but I know nothing about cats. I have asthma and could never have a cat but from what people here have said I guess it is not at all uncommon for cats to want to crawl in different places. I still think the previous owners knew what they were doing but as someone else pointed out it is possible the couch was in a garage. Who knows?

I dont know about those ladies, but there was an article on MSNBC back in march about someone who bought a sofa cheap at a thrift store and found a cat hiding inside of it. The cat ended up back with its origional owner, who had been missing his cat, not realizing the poor critter was in the sofa he had dontated! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29672116/

Wow...that is something strange...but honestly the only explanation is that thee previous owners put the cat there to get rid of him...or they thought the couch was haunted when they heard the cat, so they sold it fast...lol.

Haunted now there's a different approach!!! And who knows? Thank You so much for your response.
