would it be safe to tag your discussion anymore?

I just received an alert from mylot to inform me about people misuse the "tag" on their posted discussions. The penalty for it will be termination of the account. I just wonder if that is safe to tag on each posting or not? Because you have to bear in mind that, if you misuse the tags without intention, or someone else report on your misuse of tag, mostly for revenge reason. You might be facing the risk of having your account terminated. Would it be ok to not tag your posting at all?

It is just as 'safe' as it was before. The tags should be used correctly. Those users who abuse them are the ones who will be risking their accounts just like those who violate the Terms in other manners too.

I had that same thought... but then I guessed that others might be interested to see a response so I thought well why not (but just this once )

yesterday i added a tag to someone elses discussion, one word mentioned in the discussion plus a 'key' tag word as you suggested in a post. I just put the two words in a discussion search and it came back nothing found, does it only work on ones own discussions?

Don't worry about it, everyone got that same message. Just make sure not to post wrong tags or abuse the tag system, and you will be fine.

A good tag is something pertinent to the discussion concerned. A bad tag is something that has nothing at all to do with it and, at the worst, is abusive.

Of course it´s safe and important. But yesterday, for instance, someone made a good post but didn´t tag it. The post was read by a troll and tagged it with all sorts of stupid things. I was a shame! So the best IS to tag. Happy posting, happy tagging!!!

Really? A bit weird to hear this. But why do you think would anyone go through the trouble of doing nasty things like that? I guess the admin here in mylot has taken note and that "troll" you are referring to is probably terminated already, or at least we hope, so we can leave this place for serious members. :)

I don't know... I'm sure I didn't add any bad tags, but then I got an alert as well... So I don't know about this...

even i have received it today.i was a bit confused bcoz generally i give the tags only after reading the discussions fully, and they are always apt.but then after seeing your discussion i came to know that the warning was a common one sent to mylot users.they wanted to make users tag the discussions properly.

You will not have any problem if your tag is about the discussion. In fact since you are the one starting it the first tag would be yours and I am sure that no one is going to materialize behind you and put a tag on your response while you are not looking. What mylot does not want is people putting inappropriate tags like obscene to turn a perfectly innocent conversation to something horrible and perhaps embarrass the one who started the discussion in the first place.

I got the same message from mylot. I think the reason for this may be that we are not tagging all al the responses we make. From last week I am skipping so many tags. Logically this might be the reason for the message.

We should tag the discussions as it gives a hint about the discussion and sometimes it is to cut the story short. But some people are misusing it to offend the starter of the discussion and so we all get the alert. And the alert is to warn people who misuse it and not a threat to all members who tag the discussions. We need not worry,as mylot will not take blind folded decisions about terminating accounts.Keep on tagging.Cheers!

Think of tags as keywords. It is what people search for online. It will bring up our discussions if they search for something that matches our tags.

I think it is safe to do so, if you tag your discussions correctly and properly. If you give a relative tag, there is no reason to terminate you account. Have a nice day!

There is really nothing to fear about that. After all, this warning applies only for those who are "misusing" the tag. If you know how tags work and what they are for, then there shouldn't be any problem with your account being terminated.

Hi clorissa123, I too recieved and hope everyone has recieved. But I hope its nothing to worry about till we are in the safer side I mean the good side. Some of them really misusing the tag and I have seen some here just raising a discussion with a single line and tag their disccussion with their username. They even don't have any knowledge on why we are tagging with the keywords. But I think there is nothing to worry about till we are tagging the right keywords.. Have a nice day... Cheers

You should always tag the discussions that you start, it is safe to do as long as you use tags that relate to the discussion topic. The alert was for the ones that were misusing the tags.
