HELP- Have you had your gallbladder removed or know someone who has?

India

Hi Friends, Need some advice, tips. My father who is 77 is being told that he needs to have his gallbladder removed. The doctors are also saying that some type of laser therapy is used where they dissolve the stones without removing the gallbladder. But this laser treatment is not available on the National Health Services in the UK, they will only remove the gallbladder ....period. For this laser treatment he will have to come to India, and have it done privately.....and not we are unsure about this too. So we are weighing both options. If you have had your gallbladder removed, or received such a laser treatment...(or know someone)....then please disclose all...how was the operation? How long did it take you to recover? Are you ok now, or does it still give you problems? And basically any tips, or anything you might think is good to share....and that I should know.....as I will be the one looking after him. Over to you.............

I had mine removed by laser as well (I dont remember the exact medical term)... the entire procedure, from anesthesia to wake up took about 45 minutes to an hour. They made me spend about 2 hours in a recovery room before I left where they monitored my blood pressure, massaged my legs to help induce circulation, and gave me something to eat and drink. I was up and moving around later that day, although if he has the chance to rest around a few days, I definitely recommend it. I had no complications, I just wasn't able to rest due to lack of help around the house. It was definitely so much smoother than I had even anticipated.

Hi Sritrinity A co-worker of mine had her gall bladder out a couple months ago she is doing just fine she was only off work for a few days and she is now pain free she said the pain was annoying it was like a dull stabbing sensation she went to to doctors because it was getting worse (she used to complain out it at work from time to time) and the doctors told her it was her gallbladder, she got the treatment and the recovery was quick. Now a days they can do so much with lasar surgery recovery time is much quicker and its a lot less painful sometimes no pain at all. Thats to bad that the treatment isn't available in the UK but why should he have to go to India? Thats a bit far just for laser treatment!

maybe there is country near UK that offers laser surgery for that problem. Why go to India when you can do it in US which i think is nearer than India. though it is still far from UK. i wonder why it is not available in UK considering that UK is a progressive and rich country too. there government should avail or purchase that for their hospitals too to help their people who suffers from gallbladder. so laser is the new treatment for that. hopefully that is available in the philippines for those who have this problem. i wonder how much is the cost of the laser treatment.

Hi sritrinity, I had my gallbladder removed over ten years ago and have been fine ever since. There is a new procedure that is used here now that is even more simple than what I had done. I don't think there is any reason to worry if your father is in good health otherwise. Blessings.

hi sritrinity I was about the same age as your father when I had gallbladder surgery. it was so simple, a bandaid surgery where'they make a small incision, put in a tiny camera to see what they are doing , they snip it out, sew everything up and you can go home the same day if you have someone to stay with you . YOu can go back to work in a week. I had no problem and I did go back to work in a week without the horrible pain of gall stones grinding in your tummy.i was fine , a bit sore for a couple of days but really its a very simple' operation now called band air surgery. I had three small clips in the small incision which Ihad to go back to the surgeron to have out in a week. I had no problems no pain no sickness.
