I watched the speech from begining to end and I can only say what a wonderful job he did in delivering it to the children. His speech was inspiring and full of making children realize the self esteem that they can have to succeed in an education. BRAVO! The kids responded well to him and full of excitement!

I gotta hand it to him, this was a good speech. It sounded more like a Reagan speech. A mylotter in another thread pointed out something that caught my attention, I hope he doesn't get upset for borrowing this comparrison, but, Bill Cosby said the same things a few years ago and was barbqued and skewered for it. I agread with Cosby then, and I agrea with Obama now. I only hope the kids who did watched listened and absorbed it.

Most of the Americans are too closed minded or too prejudice to think of this as a good thing or to think anything was "heard". I know there are proverty stricken areas that heard this speech and it might not have mattered except for the teachers comments afterwards. I have one school in mind that I am sure not only watched it, but the principal probably commented on it as well. People need to get their heads out of the sand and realize there are poverty stricken areas that need hope. If this speech gave them hope then so be it. If not no harm, no foul.

Of course it was. Stupid people in this country make me so mad with their narrow minded attitudes. I think they should be open to what the President has to say. He isn't going to "turn them into liberals."

I must say something with the way you responded, just because people do not agree does not make them stupid it is all about different opinions. But you are right they can only turn into liberals of they choose to do so.

Did you catch the part where he lied about being poor in Indonesia?

His Step father was a government relations consultant for Mobile Oil. He wasn't poor by any means.

Who said he lied? I know in haitti you have poor and rich, if you dont have servants then you are poor. There is no such thing as middleclass over there. Perhaps his parents werent ones to splurge but to put the money aside for his college education. His father might have been rich but it doesnt mean that they lived the rich life. It is all about perception in young boys life.

The children of the Broward County school district are not only being forced to watch, but threatened with punishment if they don't.

It was wonderful and I really hope that the school my children attend allowed them to watch (it was their first day today and so we really didn't know if they would watch or not). I think that children can't hear enough how important it is to stay and school and get a good education. If only every administration was so concerned about kids having a good education!

Yay for propaganda! What's next? Are the kids gonna get their own Obama bookbags and uniforms? Please. Kids don't like authority figures, and I'm sure a lot of the older kids yawned. Just because it was Obama that delivered the speech doesn't mean all the kids listened.

Now this response is totally rediculous, If it was anyone else that had said this to the children I would have said the same thing. It was well said. Authority figure is someone that can actually followup so no Obama would not be considered an authority.Perhaps if you would have watched it then you would have seen the kids on their tippy toes applauding and shaking their heads in approval of his words.
