Turn off your computer/screen when you left for cooking, cleaning, etc?

I seldom turn off my computer when I stay at home. If I left for something else, I will turn off the screen only, and let music keep playing on the computer. What about you, my friend? How longest was your computer working without break? It's always nice to hear from you.

when i was finishing up a couple of plans for my design, i kept my computer on for about 3 days..i really had to rush things up and i couldnt even get a decent sleep myself so why should my PC take a break? lol.. i do all my work on my PC so that's mostly the scenario all the time..it's really hard toclose every single browser and programs just to shut the PC down and then open them all when i need to work again..might as well just leave my PC up and running

Hi Calai, understand... Anyway, do the computer getting slower or easier to be down if you keep it on for too long hours often? And you should also take enough sleep, I feel lack of sleeping makes me dull and I can not concentrate on something.

hi karen, yes that's very true. i do feel stressed out without sleeping but in my line of work, i need to really get things done on time. It's also true that PCs slow down when overused. In my case, my laptop's battery even got damaged because of my frequent usage and it not being able to rest but i had no choice.. :(

I never turn off my computer if I have to do something else just for a short time like eating. My mom says it makes the computer's durability less when you turn it off then after just a few minutes you would turn it on back again. What's best is I only turn off the monitor screen like you.

I turn off all my computers, except my server, every night. I don't want to throw away money, and since no one is using them, they get turned off. My monitors go to a blank screen after maybe 5 minutes. I come from the days where monitors could get ghost images imprinted on them, if a constant unchanging image were shown. So, simply out of habit, I configure it that way. Not only that, it saves money.

Well, usually my computer runs 14 to 16 hours a day. But sometimes it runs a full day. I never turn off my monitor when I take a break though. Because I think it doesn't affect my monitor weather or not I turn on the monitor.

Hi Lazuardhi, Nice to meet you. The life duration of a monitor is related to the time of using it, so it do affect. Happy mylotting, my friend.

Hi Anurag, nice to meet you! I think computer work for 12 hours a day is quite reasonable. Btw, I seldom download something from internet, as I am scare of the computer virus.

This is a good way to save power since its the computer monitor that consumes most of the power. And if one does not need to be in front of the monitor screen when one lefts for cooking, cleaning or other work. I own a laptop and have set it to the option to turn off the screen when not used for 5minutes. This not only saves power but also increases the life of the LCD screen.

I am also like you, if the interval is for short period, I will just switch off the monitor, and go. If it is going to be more than 30 minutes, I usually switch off the system. Have a nice day.

For me the computer is running more than eight hours a day.I use it mostly for my work from home job.I also use it to play online games when i feel bored.I use it to check mails every hour.I also use it to play offline games. There are times when i leave the computer idle for some time like eating breakfast or drinking water.I will also switch off my monitor screen when i am doing other activities or listening to music.

Hi karenkarenkk Once I turn on my computer, I'll try to do all job related to it, so I don't need to turn on and off my laptop several times. I'm just afraid it can damage my laptop. Once my teacher said, it needs quiet large amount of battery and everytime we start our computer, it needs to check all the data and connection. So, if I turn on my computer, I'll try to finish all things related to it, then switch it off. That's why I only browse the internet only after I've finished my meal or other things The longest is 4 hours,,hehe..

I hardly ever completely turn off my laptop. I will usually put it on "hibernate" overnight but that's about it. During the day it's always on. If I go somewhere, it's left on too.

Hi karen, I usually would turn off my computer twice or thrice in a single day. If case I have to stay away from it for more than two hours I then will turn it off. I usually would switch it off when going to work in the afternoon. I turn it off as well when I go to jog in the evening. After that I start doing some watering and weeding in the front courtyard. Switch off the pc when not using it for long time would help to save energy charge I prefer to let my pc on all the time if I’m at home. I would try to type as much posts as I could while doing the household chores in the morning. I always do my posting here discontinuously. Sometimes I could complete a single post on and off here for several times. Doing in this way makes both the chores and mylotting more interesting Happy posting

Our desktop computer may stay on for two or three days in a row. Sometimes it goes into energy saving mode, sometimes it doesn't because there is music playing or there are scans or indexing going on in the background. Our monitor is an LCD screen so it also goes into power saving mode so we rarely turn that off by itself. Even if we leave the computer on, we usually have to reboot it because otherwise windows doesn't seem to release all the memory for some applications so the other programs start to run really slowly. I turn my laptop off every night. I trust my firewall and security software but I prefer to disconnect it from the internet over night.

Whenever I needed a considerable amount of time away from my computer I always use the stand by mode option, it uses low power but take you back where you left off in a just under a minute.

Our computers are on all day every day the majority of the time as we run a business online from home! We have two computers and a laptop that are usually always on from first thing in the morning until late at night! Occassionally we forget to turn one of them off and it stays on for two days! I know of someone who does not ever turn her computer off! It stays on all of the time, but I am not sure if she turns her monitor off or not!

Hello KarenKarenkk I do this as well, seriously why turn it off only to turn it back on lol, I do have a bad habit of falling asleep with it on I may have it next to me on the bed next thing you know I am in dream land with my computer watching me, but all day as long as I am home it is on, when I go out, so does the computer ( out as in turned off ) makes sense to keep it on when you know whenever you are done you will go back to it. Thank you, good question.
