I have a goal of dropping 57 pounds. How do i work through the pain?? what is the best things to do or equipment to use that is not going to hurt the knee more?

I swear by Aleve. But you might try weight bearing exercises until you can strengthen your knee joints. Take the high impact exercises slowly. Also the Kettlebell is a great all over toner and you can do that without too much impact on the knees. I have a condition in my lower back called Spondylolisthesis (a hairline fracture in the pelvic bone) so for many years I have not taken 10 steps without pain, as well as arthritis in my knees so I know exactly what kind of pain you are talking about. Isometricts also is a good alternative. Good Luck.

Hmm... knee problems are very serious. Did you visit the doctor for your pains? I am not sure about what to use to work thru the pain. Other than asking you to go to the swimming pool instead of the gym, I cannot think of anything or exercise that will reduce the impact on the knees. Other than asking you to take some supplements that helps to alleviate pain, the other thing is to work on the upper body rather than the lower body. That should help a little.

When I was working on concrete all the time, my knees gave me a time. An older lady told me to go home and put vicks vaporrub on my knees while I am at home and when I go to bed. I couldn't believe it, it worked.

I am very sorry to hear that. I would do light exercises with your hurt knee or just stay off of it while doing other various exercises. You do not want to make it any worse. A leg wrap might help also.

34Momma, Get you some Biofreeze, I'll throw a link from Ebay to you, and you get that bad boy, and put on your knee, and you'll feel better. I got a bunch of samples at a health fair for female veterans and I think it is the best thing out there. take my word for it. www.biofreeze.com http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=biofreeze&_sacat=See-All-Categories

Boxing is a good alternative if you have knee problems. If you hurt it, then you need to give it time to heal. You could always do low impact, treadmill walking until it's better. You might make it worse if you push too hard!! I know it will be hard to ease up when you just started, but you run the risk of causing more problems if you overexert the muscle. Like I said, you could still go and do low impact on the treadmill and the stationary bike. Just take it easy. You might have to go slower but go for longer than usual to burn the same amount of calories! Hope your knee feels all better soon!

Why don't you work on exercises that dont require the use of your knees. Swimming is a good aerobic exercise that is actually good for your joints so it is something you may want to look into. I'm sure there are several things that you can do.

i would love to doing some swimming. the gym i go to doesn't have a pool. I know a hour in the pool every day will not only helpe me drop the pounds but would be very nice on my knees and back. thanks snowy
