How do you feel about the color BLACK?

Colors always have an impact on the setting - whether it's something we are wearing or the background for a setting. With the color black, I have found that my reactions are always extreme - I either love it or hate it; can't seem to find any inbetween or neautral ground. I feel black is a powerful color with a lot of personality. You cannot ignore black. You cannot pretend it doesn't exist. The color forces you to acknowledge it and react to it - regardless of the kind of reaction. No other color does that to me. It can be argued that black is not really a color; rather it is the absence of color. That makes the effect of black all the more bizzare and noticable! What about you, fellow mylotters? How does the color black make you feel? Good or bad? Positive or negative? Happy or sad? Neutral or extreme reactions? I'd love to know.

As a graduate and professional analyst in this subject, I can honestly tell you that it has been scientifically established, that colors DO have a most definite profound affect upon behavior. Be that as it may...black IS NOT a color, but rather the ABSENCE of color. To the mind, it is the "stopping-off" point if you will, and it is for this reason that one would either "choose" to love it or hate it. Black, is neither negative nor positive. This is the typical PERCEPTION of it. Grey on the other hand, being the combination of white and black, IS the neutral...and tends to place a person in a state of undecidedness. Black actually DRAINS the body of energy, and will put a person in an EXACT state of excitedness, or disfunctional depression. We are constantly bombarded by color(s) everyday, and indeed, they do affect our mood. What's truly amazing though, is that even blind people CAN tell the difference between colors. This is due to the fact that each color of the spectrum has its own anxtrom wavelength, and is the reason why we "feel" or are "affected by" their energies, and therefore determines our mood color choices. The higher the anxtrom level, the more affect the color's energy output has upon our mood. BLACK, has NO energy output. On the spectrum analysis graph, it appears similar to that of a flat-lined heart patient. -------- zip, nada, nothing. Bizarre? Maybe. But interesting? Yes! Cheers; cdrxo

Ahhh...if only we knew HOW much we were unaware of...just think of what we COULD become aware of on many levels? Colors, mmmm? Included. Happy myLotting; cdrxo

That is a well-researched, detailed response on the color black, or should I say, the 'absence of color' that is represented by black. Thank you for your response. I did not know that black has "no energy output." Isn't it interesting how we think we know certain things or have impressions about certain things, and yet, we may not be aware of any scientific reasons for the same?! Yes, I agree, black is definitely, undoubtedly interesting, albeit in a bizarre fashion.

I've learned a long time ago that black isn't actually a color but a shade. And I don't really interpret black as simply an absence of color as most people put it. It depends. In the light spectrum, it is, as opposed to white light, the absence of all color. But, say, why do we see things in color? It's because these objects absorb all other colors of the light spectrum but reflects only a single hue, and that is the color of the object that we see. So when we see black, it could also denote the presence of all color because it does not reflect any of the light spectrum's color instead absorbs it all thereby making black a presence of all colors. I wish I explained it clear enough. =) As for how I feel about black, I just like it. I have a certain affinity with it and I just don't know why. I love it and it gives me a sense of peace, of confidence, of being myself instead of sticking to pretenses, of invisibility too. On the practical side, black clothes do not need regular washing unlike lighter colored ones and dirt doesn't stick much on black. Easy to wash and clean too. Besides, I don't get much difficulty matching colors when it comes to wearing black clothes. You just have to grab and wear. Saves time prepping up.

I can easily relate to one comment you made: "I just like it...I don't know why." That's what I meant about black - it's not easy to explain why you feel how you feel. You just do. Invisible in black? Hmmm...I guess that is one way of looking at it. Time saver? Never thought of that one. You're right, I guess. Thank you for sharing.

people always say different color has a different meaning. In my dream ,i always think the good color is blue, green and purple, and the bad ones are black, red, and yellow.i think the black stands for darkness for example the murder. the underworld.the red stands for the blood and sad.so if let me choose some colors only,i think i dont choose black.

So, fishpool, you're saying that black brings out negative feelings in you; gives you negative vibes? I guess that is the case for many people, not just you. Thanks for sharing.

In art class, they taught us that Black was technically a shade, instead of a colour. It depends on the way it's used. As a colour to paint your room, it's a little depressing, and they do say that colours can effect your mood. However, as a tight shirt, it's better in black. Plus, you can wear it anywhere.

So you're saying that black does not even qualify as a full fledged color? And still it gets all those reactions out of people! Wow! That is powerful.

Hmmm the color black symbolizes elegance to me. However, my reaction to the color black depends on cloth/product it is on. Imagine a black, sleek mobile phone!- Wow; I think black is a color that suits all. It matches with any shade or surrounding color! I have started wearing more of blacks shades now a days because it hide my shapeless body .

Elegance? So true...I must agree with you. So black "symbolizes" elegance to you. Does that mean you feel elegant any time you're in black?

So you say that black does not make you feel good or bad, and yet you have a good feeling towards it? A feeling that is good enough that you don't mind wearing anything in that color? Again, I feel, that says a lot about how effective black is - unlike a lot of oter colors. Thank you for your response.

I feel that the color black can make a very big impact. I find it dramatic to wear black. Aside from the fact that it absorbs heat, black is something formal for me. Sometimes, I find it gloomy, specially if one is wearing black during rains.

Everyone should have black clothes for when the occasion demands it. It is a colour, not an absense of colour. Absense of colour means you will not be able to identify any colour that is absent. And black is a strong colour its just that we usually associate it with certain occasions.

Good thought. I live in a place where many people believe black as a color of badluck. People won't wear black color dress to a function like wedding or birthday party. Some people believe a black cat as a birth of devil. I don't believe in that, but at the same time, I don't take the risk of wearing a black color dress for a function. I love black because many people said that I look good in black dress.

The color black does not hold a lot of emotion for me, like the more vibrant colors do. But I do love it for it's versatility. It can be paired with any other color in fashion, and brings out a color's vibrancy when contrasted with it. I feel that it makes a bold statement when paired with white. The contrast between white and black can be used to create memorable art and crisp design.
