There is no need to share personal details online, unless and until you are comfortable in doing so. However, in a site like this one, any discussion I participate in I tend to stick to facts and personal experiences. Why would anyone do it any differently? You can pretend to be someone you are not if that is your choice. However you can only "fake" it for so long until you are caught in your own web. I have seen many instances where people have exaggerated (or lied) about things online, only to be caught in their lie when someone challenged them. Those kinds of lies are a waste of time - yours, mine, and all the others on the site.

well, i make it a point to tell the truth about me. i don't like to lie because the truth will always come out in the end. what i hate most is dishonesty and lies. that is one of the reasons why i parted ways with a chat mate for almost 2 years who became very close to me and with whom i communicate in emails, ym and skype almost everyday. i told him before hand that i don't like dishonest people. there was one big lie he told me and which i happened to discover. if he is capable of lying now, he will always do it in the future.

Mostly I do this because I have no right to drop their expectation at some point of time in chatting. So I have to know what they are expecting like ASL. I do tell them the truth and I inform them my purpose of being chat. If they have real interest to know and do chat with me, surely they welcome me to continue it. It better we inform about us (brief) before we chat.

Truly I say the truth of what I am, using false informations can leads you nothing, simply I say you fooling your self, be what you are, thats a simple thing, ok, hiding yourself can help you or for security reasons, its called white lies and its lead you to unproductive way of life...

Hi Anurag. I value integrity in general, and I also value my online reputation, in both business and other connections, and with friends, so yes, I tell the truth when chatting and at all other times online. I have nothing to hide, and really, why would anyone? If there are things you wish not to share, that is perfectly fine, but why lie? No reason, I say :) Karen

I've never seen a reason that I should lie about who I am be it on the web or in real life. So, yes, I always teel the truth about myself when I am on the internet. It's been through the internet that I've made many really good friends that I may never have the opportunity to meet in person but I consider them to be friends none the less because they know the real me and the same is true in reverse. Most of the internet friends that I've made are digital scrapbookers like myself so in addition to having the opportunity to talk to these people through chatting, I also get to know their children and spouses through the scrap pages that they share in their galleries.

hi, 1anurag1! I've always tried to be as truthful as possible when interacting with other people on the internet. I just try to talk to people online the way I would talk to people in real life. I've always been a horrible liar. I'm a person who definitely wears my heart on my sleeve and I don't have the "knack", if you will, to lie. Besides, with lying, you can't tell just one: you have to continue to lie to cover up the last lie you told. I really don't have the mental energy for that.
