It does not matter how small or big it is. If you think that we can do something individually to help bring change to this world for the better, what exactly it that you can do to help this world to be a better place to live and safe place for all of us. For me , i will start by not adding more problems to our environment. We know that climate change and problem with pollution in this world. Here in my country, garbage segregation is not yet implemented successfully, so in my own part i do segregate my garbage before i give it to garbage truck to collect my garbage. i feel that no matter how small it is it will make a big difference. and i think that i can in a way be a good example in my community and people around and that can affect more people and that can give a very big effect in people around. i am just hoping that will be the scenario i am not saying that people around me will definitely find inspiration in me to do it also. BUt i know some of the things that we do, some people will in a way find idea to do the same thing. and so we influence people in way.

It's a good idea to change the world. It's also the hardest thing to do. Difficult to change one person and when it come to change the whole lot of it, well... I don't know anyone can change the world or not, but we can do our bit to make it a better place. As you said that may be a very small effort but if everyone gives a small effort then certainly we can see a changed world someday. Personally I always try to do the right things, especially when it comes nature. I love nature and I try to do my every bit to save it and try to convince people why it is so necessary.

yes we can't really change the whole world per se but we can make the world a better place as much as we can but contributing our own part. if we all that our part and no matter how big or small it is i bet this world can be such a paradise to live in and the only thing we have to worry is the natural calamities, but for the violence and other man made factors we can really minimize or even stop them.

The mega role of an individual cannot be under estimated. It is the individuals - the drops that make an ocean and I strongly believe that however small my contribution may appear it will have mega consequences. I am a proactive and leave no opportunity to do what I can in whichever field I have an access to. Be it water conservation, energy conservation, animal care, noise pollution, garbage management, spreading greenery. I have done my bit. My waste water for example is channelised to my garden, I have low current consuming electric bulbs for my house, the volume of my tv is not more than 7, I care for a stray dog who I love with all my heart. My tap is never on when I am brushing my teeth. I will put it on when I am ready for it.My garbage is sorted out and the wet garbage is used to create compost for my garden, the plastic bags and solid stuff is collected and is used as foundation material for creating garden seats, etc in my garden. My garden has several trees that attract birds and I have also a birdbath for the birds to have their fun. I am happy with my contribution.

oh caring for stray dog is not really my part of caring for the world though. LOL. i am not really that good in caring for dogs specially i am scared of dogs specially the stray dogs. cause i don't know if they are vicious , or may start to nice and very loving but just turned vicious in another moment in just one snap just we don't know the behavior of those stray dogs as we are not their real owners. i like garbage composting but there is no space in my place for that cause i am in the city where a place to plant is not really that much option. but if i could have place to give my garbage for composting i will love to do that. and it will save too much work or burden from the garbage collector.

I'll start the changes first to myself, don't be too arrogant and selfish, throw a piece of candy wrapper to a proper place, listen to others and don't think your the smartest. After all of that I'll try to influence others to do the same thing. Just like this country, changes should start from the people, most of us blame the problems to our leaders or the government, we should first look at ourselves. Happy mylotting!

yeah i think that people now are waking up to this truth that we need to care for our environment. after the big series of storms that hit our country, and the devastation it caused us and most of the reasons that gave us such worse flooding in the history could have been avoided if we have learned to protect nature. the land erosion in baguio city, the houses that should have not been built along the area for the water from river to pass through whenever the water over flow. i can see that our country needs an overhaul. lots and lots of things to be change. though some change has been started already to improve our country but not much yet done to protect and repair the environment for the abuse done to it. yeah, if we change ourselves first for sure it will create such an impact that can turn our country around and see it as clean and beautiful place we all been wishing for.

Well, the only way I can change the world is by being me!. Actually, I do care about the state of the world and the climate but a single person can only do so much. Unless the governments of the world start pulling together then there's no real hope! This is what I do though. I make sure that when I go shopping I don't use any of those plastic carrier bags! I have one of those bag for life bags and it's strong enough to last forever. Anyway, it has this huge message along the side, something that says 'I care about the environment' or something of that nature. I cycle on a regular basis and this is another major contribution to the planet on my part. In terms of electricity usage I make sure that I don't leave lights on. I turn the tv off and never leave it on standby. What I'm doing though is tiny and it won't make any difference unless everyone starts thinking green! Andrew

though the government is a big factor for change. but we people need to support the project of the government. the government can only do so much. without the people's help. the plan of the government will deem to fail.

I agree with you. If we all did just one small thing to help make a change. Can you imagine how much trash would be kept out of the landfills if everyone sent just one bag of garbage to be recycled every week? I try my best to recycle everything I possibly can. Another thing I do to help is I will frequently pick up trash when I am out and see it on the ground. If it is food, I will leave it because the animals need to eat, too. But I will remove the paper or container if there is one. But I definitely pick up the bottles and cans that I usually see lying around where someone has thrown it out their car window. I also try not to drive somewhere if I don't have too. I live in a rural area, so it is a little hard to do at times, but usually I can carpool with my parents. The only places I will drive to by myself are school or work. If I have to go grocery shopping, I will wait until they go, or I will call my mom while she is on her way home from work and get her to stop by the store for me. It saves a ton of gas and exhaust fumes from the car if I don't have to make unnecessary trips. Right now, I am sitting in the dark while typing because I just don't see the point in turning on the light. And when I am not using things such as the television, cell phone charger, printer, or appliances in my kitchen such as the toaster. I will unplug them. You would be surprised at how much electricity things used when they are in standby mode and are not actually turned on, but are simply plugged in. These actions save me money every month, and I think they go a long way to help the Earth. It may not seem like much for one person to do something, but there are a whole lot of "one persons" in this world.

yeah it seems one bag will not make difference. but if all of use will save one bag for recycling each week then it will free our environment lot of waste.

Yes! why not? Today the world is in bad condition is because of us. so we need to protect and save our world to our future. Everything depends on each individuals of this world. if everyone come together we can do it.

I think going back to basics is the way to go. We have had so much of the advanced technology, in fact they too contributed to the rapid deterioration of the state of our planet. It's time we give back to the world what it has given us - the kind of life it has enjoyed before all the toxins, pollution and the ravaged natural resources. How? As basic as planting trees again, to replace those that have been cut down, use things that are environment friendly like paper instead of plastics, and learning to dispose of our waste properly.

yeah the rate of decline and destruction of our environment is very much alarming, in our country it is hard to find clean river in the city, when i was small the river is much cleaner and blue or green. but now it is just black. with so much garbage floating on the water. it is really such a sorry sight to see.

To change the world I will start by changing myself. I have always believed I could somehow make a difference. I believe there are many examples in history where one person has set the ball rolling for huge change, or one person can do something that will inspire others. So for me the most important thing is to get my health back. And then to watch that move out to other people as I have the confidence and energy again to live my life and do the things I always wanted to to help others or to take a message to others.

yes it does not need one big organization to start a change or to give inspiration to other people. most of the time those small people who start the change that gives us the most inspiration.

One ripple creates a wave, multiple ripples create bigger waves, and bigger waves have great energy and can get things done, people in droves when they want can either build or destroy.

yes whatever we do be it small or big one will surely create a ripple that adds up for a bigger wave and can affect other people either in a good or bad way.

I'm seriously considering the notion of running for the presidency of Fiji. Actually, no. But, I think that we can all do a little part in changing the world for the better. One thing that I know is constant is the environment. So, I'll tackle that first. I'd like to make a ton of money in order to fund my "green" projects such as starting a wind farm, build a methane plant on top of a landfill, grow corn and switchgrass for biodiese. Alas, the first part is the hardest of course: making a ton of money. Hey, I calculate that if I post a trillion times, I might be able to make a million bucks! That should be sufficient for funding some of my project, right?
@hotsummer (13835)

where exactly is Fiji. LOL. anyways, yeah i think that giving even small monetary donations for this green projects when we all do help in small way then we can expect a better, greener world and we may be able to solve the problem of climate change.

yes, you are quite right. Thrash is a big problem, besides pollution. I do remind everybody around me not to throw trash impulsively, but only in thrash cans. I avoid using too much plastic, and I do not waste good clean water too. We start by doing little things, and hope it will spread to others.

Nice question and you've got nice responses too. I have some ideas too. You know that internet has become a very good tool for communication. In previous months, our country have suffered from strong typhoons and internet played a big role in raising charity funds for the victims. We can change the world also by being a good advocate. If you have a blog, you can promote and support charitable institutions by blogging about them and posting their link for donation. You can also support non-government organizations like Red Cross, associations for animal welfare and organizations protecting the environment by blogging about them and encouraging people to support their deed, may also encourage them to donate. You can also blog or write positively. I for one have a website about relationships, most of my blogs are about helping people recover from heartache, move on with their life, become a better person and be useful member of the society. In MyLot, prefer to discuss the good sides of things, enlighten them on the bright side, be a positive influence. I also teach my young nephews to throw any candy wrappers or garbage properly so they can grow with love for the environment and nature.

I once heard someone say that if everyone did everything as if their grandparents were watching this world would be a better place. If you think about it that covers a lot of the aspects of improvement. Anything from littering to cussing but in general treating others and the earth with respect. Now I can't say that this is something someone can do at all times but if one was just to even strive for it not only would you improve yourself but these behaviors are the things that tend to rub off onto others. Perhaps to the point where its not you only changed one person but what a change one person can make!

yes respect is what we badly need now in our lives. respect to other people and respect to the environment. only when we learn how to give proper respect can we coexist in this world and live peaceful world and can even make this world paradise again.

Hi hotsummer, Thanks for such a great discussion topic. It's always a good idea to think about what we can do to improve things and your idea about helping with the environment is an excellent one. We carry cloth bags to the store so that we don't have to use plastic and we recycle wherever we can. You are right too in saying that it doesn't have to be a lot, just whatever we can do. We can also help the less fortunate in any way we can. Most of us don't have a lot of money but we can help in other ways. Blessings.

yeah using a cloth bag in buying groceries is very good solution so that we can minimize the use of plastic in garbage disposal. i have not yet done that though. and also helping those that need our help which i do when i have the chance though not really by the means of money.

i think people can be kinder to one another. it goes a long way to making a difference in someone's day and perhaps they will pay it forward. also people need to be less judgemental and less damning of others if they are different than them or do not agree with their views. we are all entitled to our beliefs and opinions and the sooner people realize this the better off the world will be.

Hello hotsummer, This is a good idea, and this is not a small thing. Actually,it should starts from us...from each individual,to think and so things that can help our environment. Waste segregation is one way of helping, planting more tress, using the natural fertilizer(chicken manure, carabao, cow and the likes instead of chemicals) Cleaning our surroundings especially the rivers and creeks, and teach our kids and neighbors not to throw small garbage to the rivers. I teach my kids not to throw candy wrapper everywhere,i told them to put it inside their pockets if they can't see any trashcan.

a great dream to change the world - It is really a great dream to change the world.
It is really a great dream to change the world but I guess there are only few people who can make a difference. However, for me, compared with changing the world, I tend to change myself to adapt oneself to the society. I don't care about the future, the surroundings and the development of the society for I am familiar with myself. Perhaps it is more real to try my best to help people who are seeking help, to bring my family a better life, to get together with my friends. Yeah, I am really such a so "selfish" man. Happy myLotting!
