Academic or practical?

People are different. Some are academic types and others can be practically minded. I am one of the academic ones. I wish that I was more practically minded. In exams in subjects that I like I enjoy revising and do well in the exams. In exams in subjects that I am not interested in I can learn the information. I can do really well in exams and I try hard with coursework. I hate that fact that I fail practical tests. I get too nervous and make silly mistakes. Life can be unfair sometimes. Different events can happen in life but an exam paper will be the same for all 200 students. Are you academic? Are you practically minded? Do you do well in academic tests? Do you do well in practical tests?

I think practically minded and academic are relative to each other. One should be both practically minded and as well as ACADEMIC.

I am more of an academic. I did very well at high school and university. Like you, I enjoyed my studies. I have continued to read a lot and learn new things even thoiugh I am 51 years. It is a long time since I have done an exam, but I usually did very well. Im going to be tested on my learning powers next year. I have signed to do a Tax Agent course. The course goes for 17 weeks and we are marked. By then I will be 52, so this will be a real test for me. Im okay with practical tasks I think. My daughter, age 16 is very practical. She is setting up all the Christmas Lights. But she is very academic too. It is possible to be both.

I guess I'm more practically minded than I am academically minded. I always hated tests, myself. I studied for them all the time but I was just always worried that I might not pass them, anyway. I was always concerned that there might be something on there that I didn't study. I've always been a worrier but I'm trying my best to overcome that. Kathy.

We share something in common in this aspect. I am extremely academic. Since I was a child I have been intersted in the nature and I like to explore it. In addition, I also like mathamatics and theoretical physics. All of these things are pretty impractical in my view of point. Just like you I can perform quite well in exames but pretty terribly in practical ones. For example, I study physics well but I am no a good experiment operator. I can also get a good score in English test except the oral English test. But I realize this deficiency and I am trying to pay more attention to the practical skills.

well i would say I'm more of an academic type as well. although I haven't done too badly in practical life either. but when it comes to pscyho-motor skills, I'm terrible. i don't know how i ever passed my driving test (though it did take 3 times). I can't play tennis to save my life and am lousy wtih most ball games.

I'm somewhere in between, I would imagine. For example, I do OK on both "physical" ("practical"?) tests as well as academic ones. Standardized tests, though, like the SAT and ACTs I've always had trouble with..just because of all of the professional jargon they tend to use - which ends up making the question they're asking about 10000 times harder than it should be. It also depends on how much I study or practice for the particular tests. Many factors go into this, for me. lol.

Practice makes perfect. Do you ever practice being practical?? If anything breaks, fix it yourself. Get all the info you want from any source but fix it yourself. You will find doing makes you better. Your mistakes will make you better yet. Stop thinking you can't. You just need practice in analytical thinking. What better way than to fix it all yourself.
