One of the best mattresses around is a piece of foam 6 inches thick. This can be purchased at a Furniture Upholstering Shop for a very reasonable price. Look in your phone book to find the Upholstering Store. These people use the foam to reupholster furniture, and they will usually sell a piece of foam in the size you need.

is it just as good if you put it on top of a mattress made of springs?

What's holding you up to get a new one? Instead of grumbling like this and losing your sleep just kiss it goodbye - afterall it did serve your purpose all these years be nice to it have a send off party and have a party for the new one too.

Hi bossfortune, My bed fortunately does not have lumps or holes and is a spring mattress. I have a few beds and none of which I dislike. I am sorry for you that your sleeps are being less than best. We all need rest, daily. A good nights sleeps in imperative. You could get a piece of foam, the same size as your bed a put it down, or a big quilt, then make your bed with a sheet set and blanket on top of that. Have you tried to turn your mattress over? The other side may not be as bad. I hope that you may acquire a new bed as soon as possible.

Because of my bad back I needed a quality mattress, and the one I have now I got in 1997. The directions say that every six months or so I should rotate it and/or turn it upside down. And yes, the issue with the mites needs some attention, after you get rid of the mattress. And it includes your clothes as well, and if your bedroom has a rug, I would think that it needs to be treated as well.

No, the air bed that I sleep in is very comfortable. We have a foam pad that is underneath the sheets . This makes the bed feel comfy. And it does feel very comfy. It is firm and soft. I hope that you can get you a new bed very soon. It is nothing like having a good night's sleep..

My bed is quite old & has some lumps and bumps but, by the time I get into it, I'm usually tired enough to fall asleep. Its more likely to be thoughts in my head that keep me awake.

Mites? OMG, Mites are not a good thing. Perhaps once you get rid of that bed, fumigate before bringing your new bed in or you may have the same mite problem with the new bed. Be sure to wash your bedding to. HOT water.

yes, and don't just throw it out. tear the fabric off and bag it up so you don't cause a public health hazzard. people just pick them up off the street and you'd be shocked how far a used bed would travel.
