Hi friends! It is always easier to think ‘negative’ things, when we are sad. However, it is said that when we are upset and depressed due to any major happening, we should count our blessings to make us feel happy and better. I always count my blessings when I am upset due to any reasons and feel down and out. How about you, do you count your blessings, when you are distressed? Would like you to share some of the blessings, which you experienced in your life and how those blessings make you feel glad? Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences with us.

I always do.Life seems so crazy and hectic these days, and we often forget to slow down and count our blessings. My hope is that you take a deep breath, brew a cup of tea, relax, and enjoy our blessings. Often blessings come in small ways and those are the ones most often overlooked. Rather than dwelling on negative issues that surround us, we have to sit down and reflect on the good that surrounds us. We will see that we are truly blessed.

Hi Bala! I know that you are very positive person and you are the one who will think about your blessings. I agree with you that blessings come in small ways and should be cherished. Negativity or negative thinking makes us feel more depressed. Thanks for your such a wonderful response.

Oh Deepak there are so many! For example, all my friends feel protective about me.:) The other day I went to one of directors in a big company to negotiate something. We've known each other for sometime. And by the end of the meeting, he was kind of you need to be looked after lady kind of attitude.:) I kind of like that.:) I dont know what it is about me, especially nowadays. Most people are like that with me. This morning I spoke to ex colleague. He was feeling like that about me. And then I sing (rotten - but better than a donkey's bray). So I feel yeah, I am better than a donkey! And then I paint, below average, but I make my paapu do something and obviously he is not as good as me, so I feel yeah, I am better than dad.:) Deepak, I feel thankful for food, because there was a time in my life when I had to skip meals to have enough monies to reach office. I am reasonably far from that stage, so I have ample to thank god for. I also thank god for giving me a parent who didnt mind spending on my education out of his earnings. He could well have given me primary education, and said well, here I pack you off with some office peon, or some auto rickshaw driver. I did my duty. And now I am off to my own world. He didnt stop. I was the one who was not up to mark, lazy and not half as sharp, but he persisted. That is the reason I can say comfortably I have a comfortable life today. How many of Indians have that Deepak? When I read somethings like that about others, I feel I have been there, and I know how tough that can get.

Hi Vandana! Your comments tell that many of the things are going in your favour and whatever you are touching is turning to gold. It is good that your friends/colleagues all are supportive of you and are willing to land their helping hand to you. I agree that we comfortably get the basic necessities of life, which many in our country are deprived of. Thanks for your interesting comments and telling all about your singing and artistic talent.

Yes Deepak. No doubt I had lot of problems and responsibilities before marriage, God has shown good path to me always. He got me married to a good person who did not object to help my father for my sister's marriage. I had terrible mother-in-law problem. After four years that was also solved in some way. God made her realise her mistake and she asked me to forgive her. Though the suffered days cannot be changed, have some consolation that she realised her mistake. For all the sufferings, now my life is comfortable. All these are blessings of God. I always prostrate before elders, even now. May be the blessings of everyone helped me during my stressful days.

I should be thankful for what I am now knowing that they are people who are worse of than me in many parts of the world. I am blessed to have a good family, meals on my table and a roof over my head. Plus of course the free supply of air am breathing in everyday. Problems are but thrills in life without which life would be boring and meaningless. We only come to a trouble free life when we rest in peace. We are not here for that long period so I/we should be thankful for the present and welcome the future in what ever role in plays in our earthly existence.

Hi Deepak, In general my life is happy and going on well with the blessings of Almighty. But to be very honest if there is some problem then I can't think about the positive side in the past and counting my blessings. It may take much time to do the same and by that time my problem may be solved. Do you agree with me? If we are in tension and finding a solution that time can you think about the blessings, if yes, you are really lucky and a blessed person. I too try to think positive but it may take time to change my mind and start thinking in a positive way. In nutshell my nature is bit nervous.

Hi Sree! I can understand your point and finding a solution to a problem should be the immediate priority rather than keeping it pending. However, sometimes it so happens that we are so upset that we feel that everything is going against us and we just cannot recharge ourselves, in that case, if we start counting our past blessing, our mood may change and we may feel better. I give you an example - we have some very good friends through mylot that is not less than a big blessing that we are introduced to so many good people in our life and thinking about them could make us feel good. Thanks for sharing your about your apprehensions. deepak

Whenever I get the feeling life has been unfair to me I remind myself of the following lyrics that were taught to us when we were in school: COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS" When upon life's bellows you are tempest tossed, when you feel discouraged thinking all is lost, count your blessings, name them one by one and it will surprise you what the Lord has done. Are you ever burdened with a load of care? Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear? Count your blessings every doubt will fly and you wil keep singing as the days go by. When you look at others with their land and gold,Think that God has promised you his wealth untold.Count your many blessings wealth can never buy, your reward in heaven nor your place on high. So amid the conflict whether great or small, Do not be discouraged, God is overall,Count your blessings,Angels will attend, help and comfort you to your journey's end.

I'm thankful for all the blessings and things that i have recieved Deepak. And moreso as you say when things don't seem to be going my way. I tend to look back. pause, look around, think of the those who do not have, how things can be far worse and express a silent not of gratitude.

You are right Deepak. When the mind is sad about one thing, it tends toward remembering other things of sadness. So yes, each day I do count my blessings, and it works the same way as being negative, but in the opposite direction. When I think of one or two blessings that occured in a day, this leads me to remember or recognize more and more of them. Karen

Hi Karen! You touched the core issue of the discussions. Many have interpreted 'blessings' as per their own understanding and knowledge and in wider terms. My point was thinking about blessings can change our sad mood and we should apply this formula, when we go sad. Hope you always think on this line and succeed in setting your mood right. Thanks for such a meaningful response. Deepak

Hi deepak I do not count my blessings. If anything worst happens to me I simply sit calmly and just try to recollect the incident and find out where exactly the fault lies and if possible try to rectify it. If fate plays a cruel game then we can not help except to accept what is in store. i strongly believe that, when somebody's curse would not work on us, equally somebody's blessings also do not have any effect. Only if they are too pleased with us they will shower all blessings. The same people, if annoyed with us equally shower all sort of worst curses too.

Hi vathsala! I can understand your point that you believe in sorting out the matters rather than thinking about your blessings. It is true that we are helpless when fate plays a cruel game. However, when we sometimes get upset and everythig looks gloomy and dark to us, then thinking about some past good incidents help us to recharge ourselves. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and joining us.

Hi DPK, Yes. i always count my blessings everyday. in the morning i already affirmed the new life and beauty of the morning, me for still breathing, for still having work, food, resources to live and of course my family as my life. in the evening i look back at what happened the whole day and thank god for all the little accomplishments that i've done. so many things to count and be thankful for. a day is not enough to count and list them all. mylot and you mylot friends are part of my blessings!

Thanks for the affirmation. it's always good to have a daily blessing inventory. it will lessen our stress. Instead of focusing on what we do not have, what's lacking, what's keeping us in distress--it's so relieving to make a checklist of blessings right?! let's start doing our daily inventory of blessings and thank god for everything!

Hi Dpk, Count blessings...! its uncountable. Every second, every minutes, every moment God is with me thats why till today m living on this earth.....so i think this is called the blessings for me. Without God anytime BAD things can occur so i felt that everyday he bless us. Well, there are moment which i'm really down and sad, thinking that i'm not lucky in anything. I tnink this is the human nature thinking NEGATIVE but yaah inorder to avoid or come from these everyday i need to pray God so that i would lead a better life. I think it depends on our way of thinking, If we think good.....things come out good. I have expirience of blessing in so many ways. Say if i'm not able to face the problem i pray to God and i did. If i'm not well i pray and it does. If i pray for my exam result it does, so i think the more i pray then i get blessing. I have expireince of the blessing but so many so don't remember.

I had a supervisor in years past who was not very nice to me or anyone for that matter. She never says good morning, afternoon or anything. I serves as her Secretary for almost two years and it was one of the most depressing times of my life. I complained so bitterly and could not take it anymoreI reported her to the Head. Of course this did me no justice but I persevered. I was eventually sent to another department to work and it was the same thing. I began to look at myself and to see the lessons I needed to learn to move from tha stage. My solution: I rearranged the offices, implemented a filing system to check in all incoming and outgoing files and correspondence; prepare files for her meetings. When it came to my time to leave she was really sorry and asjked for me to return. Shortly after that I got thre promotions in a row and giving God thanks for everything. Until I had learned to adjust my behaviour and thought life to to God's plan nothign would have worked and during this all although it was hard I learnt to tell him thanks for all things both good and bad and encourage my young people by my testimony and my life style. Becaue after all this is all they have to give them guidelines and I cannot be a good leader if I had not first past the test to give the testimony. My encouragement to you all is dont give up and do not give in to the enemy. find out from the Lord and His word where you are goign wrong and make the adjustment and if you are not going wrong just paitiently wait and murmur not and God will come through for you. He came through for me in most trying times and he will for you. I also remember that I had fallen into some problems with the payment of my rent and I owed four months rent and the salary I was earning could not cover it at the time. You know what GOd did? He gave me a promotion that I could pay off the landlord and all debts owed. TO God be the glory and I just love Him for He is my source, my friend and God, Trust Him he will see you through. Another thing too we must remember that the principles God set down are valid and true for our everyday life and until these become your daily life style it will be hard to get the victory. Not preaching here but this is really dear to my heart and I beleive that we all need to live what we beleive so that others can be drawn by God's spirit to become apart of the Kingdom. God bless you all and sorry for taking so long to return.

I usually try to remind myself of the many blessings in my life, first of all my health and secondly my child, my husband and my animals. When I stop I really think about it, if I have them, I really do have everything because anything else just will not matter as much as my well being and the living, loving breathing creatures that enrich my life every single day! It is important to count one’s blessings because it is so easy to forget and take all the good things for granted. I think we should all try and make it a habit before going to sleep every night to be thankful for all the good things in our day; no matter how bad we think it may have been, if we look we will find some good somewhere.

Hello my friend dpk262006 Ji Well, while we ( + hubby)are in distress, we do not thik aboutblessigs, but compare with down trodden , who might be still with more distress. I am suffering with RA since 15 yrs. Once when we were to reach to Doctor, my hubby pointed out at another lady whose condition was worse tahn me, and She had to be supported by her husband and son, I was walking alone. One may get one's meal without salad and feelbad, but same may feelmchbetter, if same thinks about people not getting anything to eat. So we look down. This way, I remove my distress. Wishing you a very happy Chrismas and New Year-2010. May God bless You and have a great time.
