My sister called today and needed to know what she should do. She had gotten a huge electric bill that she can't pay. She called the company and found out that last two months electric bills was not read. They had been giving her an estimate. Then they finally read the meter and she now has one heck of a bill. The company is telling her that she has to pay all of it before date or the electric will be disconnected. She was thinking about doing one of those Cash Advance deals. I haven't done them before so I wasn't much help. She had google it and came up with all kinds. She said that when you click one it goes to another and then to another. She is getting irrated. So what should she do. Does anyone know anything about this kind of loans or Where is the best online site to get one of those loans?

I don’t know that much pay day advance loans but they sound a little risky. We’ve had similar problems with big bills in the past and we resolved them by using a credit card; what we do is use the card the day after the billing cycle ends which usually gives us at least sixty days to pay the balance before we get charged interest. I am not advocating the use of credit cards because they pose their own risk but used sensibly can help during times of excessive bills. Has your sister approched the company in regards to a payment plan with them?

Hi paula Yes she did. They told her that they couldn't do a payment arrangement with her because of the amount due. I got her account number today and I am going to call them myself and see what they can do for her. I think that she just didn't push the issue of payments with them. She is like that. Im trying my best to find other ways to help her so that she doesn't have to get these loans. Have a nice day. Keep smiling paula

EEP! I don't know that i would do that. It's convenient, sure but she will pay through the nose for it. Is there any way for her to negotiate a payment plan of some sort with the electric company? Perhaps send in her regular monthly bill with a little extra each month? Another possibility, many towns and cities have a "welfare" orgram of sorts for emergenies like this. the one in my town is pretty easy, you go see the twon manager, fill out a simple application and it is usualy aproved the same day, i go in, get a payment voucher from him and then I have the option of either paying it back in cash, or by perfroming community service in one of the town departments.

Hi xfahctor Hey that is an ideal. I never thought to tell her to go check with some of the organizations. I will pass that on to her. I guess I was just a little surprised that the electric company wasn't working with her since it was her fault. Thanks for tips. Have a good day. Keep smiling.

I would not entertain them as I do not trust them and she will pay a fee to The Electric Company is in the wrong, as they should have read the Meter so it is their fault and I do not understand why they do not let her pay it of bit by bit I don't know how those Pay Day loans work I just know that People who I know took them regretted it I really hope that she can sort this out

Hi gabs Good to hear from you. How is Gissi doing? Is he behaving himself..LOL I called the electric company myself for her. They have agreed to set her up on a payment plan for the extra. They had to go back three months to see what she was normally paying. Then took the remaining and set it in payments. So she pays her regular bill plus a payment every month on the other amount. I hope it works out for her and she can pay this. Thanks for your thoughts and have a good evening. Keep smiling.

I agree with most of the people here, that it is not a good idea to get a payday advance loan. The interest is just so overbearing, that most people never get caught up. I guess if it is a last option, but that would be the only reason. If she doesn't have any type of health condition, maybe she could give blood. Or I guess they call it plasma nowadays. Someone told me last week that they will pay you $50 to give plasma. I had heard $25 in the past. And I think that if she just pays part of it, even if she can't get the full amount, that she should be able to get them to keep the electric on. Just tell her to keep in mind that a lot of charity organizations aren't able to help get it reconnected if they disconnect it. So she needs to move fast. I am sorry to hear that anyone is going through this at this time of year. I hope that it all works out for your sis. Good luck!

Hi kykidd Thanks for your advise and concerns for my sis. I have made some phone calls today and there is one organization that is willing to post $50 on the electric if someone else will match them. So I have been given several phones that will help out. I think I can get the help for her so that she doesn't have to go to one of payday loans. Have a great day and keep smiling.

Will the electric company let her make smaller payments over an extended period - say 6 months. I would avoid Payday loans if she can. They cost a fortune and can mount up very quickly.

They are bluffing her. It will cost a fortune for them to cut her off and then take her to court for the payment. Better that she pays little and often. The error is theirs as wel. They should have read the meter earlier. lOver here they sometimes put a coin in the slot meter in the house so that people can pre-pay. Good luck to you and her.

She had called them about the bill. That is how she found out about them not reading the meter. She ask them if they could do something and they told her due tht mishap that they needed the bill paid in full. I think I will get her account number and see what I can get the elecric company to do. She won't ask alot of questions.

I think that the best thing for her to do is to fight the bill. If they weren't reading the meter and are just now reading it, they are most likely billing her for usage that was last month, or if not that, either way they are billing her unfairly! An estimate? I assume the estimate was in regards to other uses in prior months, and not much should have changed. I'd tell them "I'll pay the estimate and that's all" or if they get really obstinate at the electric company then say "I'll pay MY estimate seeing as you estimated my electric bill for the last two months! How do I even know that the estimates we're fair and how does the amount of my bill now change so drastically from prior months? Am I paying for someone else's laziness to not look at my meter and see what percent of usage there was?" Lol, sorry for such a rant. In any case, I wouldn't trust an online payday advance loan.

Did she know the meter was out? Atleast they are letting her do payments. $267.00 on payments alone, not having anything to do with the regular rate of pay? That is quite a bit but if they let her make payments, and atleast it was caught early!

Yes that is right. I ended up calling for her myself. The guy told me that they had done an estimate on her past usuage over the last bill. Then when they got her electronic meter fixed they was able to read and had not charged her enough for her last two months electric. So now she has this big electric bill. They did agree to sent up the difference on payments as long as she paid the current bill and the payment each month until paid in full. She owes 267 on payments. I just hope that she can do it.

Before going that route I would suggest she check with social services. There must be some sort of lifeline program that would prevent the electric company from shutting her down, especially if she has children. The cash advance might just get her mired deeper into debt. This is not something you do online. Basic research, yes, but not the transaction, I think. Also, even though she is your sister and you love her, please guard against any pressure from her for you to lend her money. It would be heart-breaking, but you must steel yourself to tell her NO. Good luck, my friend.

Hi drannhh You must have been listening to the conversation that we had today..LOL That was the first question that she asked me if I could help her out. I told her at this point that there was no way that I could. So that how she got started on these loans thingy. She doesn't have any children, and she has health problems which in return should help her to get some help. Im going to call her later and tell her about these other sources. Thanks sweetie and you have a good day. Keep smiling.

hi rosepedal64 oh no tell her do not do that, my son got into so much trou ble financially through those payday loans, you have to pay it back in a week or so after you are paid, and there is a huge interest added onto it, and he took out more loans to cover the others til he was in trouble from all that huge interest. tell her to see if she could get a loan instead from her bank or got to a credit union, their interest rates will not be nearly as high, the interest is like 30 or 40 percent, its outrageous yet there does not seem to be any law that can touch them. or push come to shove, borrow from a relative, but no do not get a payday loan, the interest is appalling.

Hi Hatley I have heard of the loans but have never done one or even know how to do one. I know when she called today and asked I didn't have any answers. One of the responses recommended that she go to an agency here that will help with the electric bill. She has a couple weeks to work this out. I will tell her to stay away from them. I never about the interst rates. Thanks sweetie. Have a nice day. Keep smiling.

Hi rose, loan companies like that will only hugely increase your sisters debt. Advise her to pay what she can afford immediately to the electric company with a fixed agreed monthly payment until she is in credit. She should read her meter every month to keep track of how much the bills should be. Better at the end that she is disconnected than get embroiled with loan sharks.

This is true. She has health problems and doesn't get out much at all. But she thought that she was on the budget plan and that is why her electric bill was the same for two months. When she got this bill it was over doubled on what she had be paying. That when she found out that she wasn't on the budget and the meter wasn't read for two months. She didn't ask them alot of questions. I think that I might have to call them for her and see what can be done. Thanks for the tips. Keep smiling.
