Do you have a Nativity in your home at Christmas? Here is mine!

My Nativity scene - I found this handmade Nativity in a thrift store. It is a beautiful piece and really brings a wonderful spirit to the room.

I had a Nativity I bought in the 70's and the baby Jesus disappeared years ago, I use a toothpick wrapped in cloth. A couple years ago I was at Goodwill and saw this Nativity. It's beautiful, someone make it themselves and if you look at the work you can see a few very small mistakes the worker made. It has a bulb that lights it up and I really love this one. I put an ornament in front of it, one that a friend gave me after my first Boston Terrier died. It's a Boston with wings and a halo. Do you have a cherished old Nativity or one that you particularly like? I still have the old one, it's on my fireplace mantle, but I like this one right near my little tree.

I do have a nativity set up during Christmas. It's a china one that my sister-in-law made back in the 70's when we all were doing ceramic classes. It's beautiful, and still in excellent shape, no knicks or chips. I do keep it high up so the kids and animals can't bump it by accident. The one thing it didn't have was a 'stable', so a few years back I took twigs and built a rustic one to go along with it for Mary & Joseph and the cradle to be in. Came out kind of neat if I do say so myself, lol. This nativity also has the 3 wise men, angels, the shepherd with his small flock, and the camels the wise men rode in on. It's an unusual set, but it looks really nice all together, and made more special because it was made with love by a family member!

My sister took a ceramics class in 1999 and made me a spoon rest that I still have. I know what you mean by it being special--every time I use my spoon rest I'm reminded of my sister's love as you must be when you see your Nativity. I will probably get some animals and wise men and shepherds for my Nativity after this Christmas when they are on sale.

I have a nice one. I put it under our Christmas tree. The barn is open and it has a music box built into it. I love it.

I would love to have one that is like the cave that they apparently took shelter in but most have a cozy, clean barn that is warm and clean, which the manger was anything but! I think one with a music box would be sweet.

we have one that my sister in law gave to us. it is kid friendly and great for little hands. we got it just after our 16 year old was born and still put it up every year. our 12 year old still loves it and i have told her that when she moves out, she can have it.

That sounds great! I think children should be able to touch and enjoy decorations, although I did put a lot of things up when they were under 3 years old. I hope your sister in law knows how much you treasure her gift!

I do have one but I don't know where it is! It's only from the dollar store but it is clear glass and I haven't seen anything like it.

That sounds really pretty! I forgot, I also have a little one that I got in high school, just a plastic thing and it's in my dining room. I also have a pewter one that can be an ornament or go on a stand and it's on windowsill above my sink. I like unusual Nativity scenes. Yours sound very special, I hope you find it!

For years we did and certainly when I was a child we had one on the sideboard in the dining room. I must ask P1kelet - she's in charge of decorations. There is something that makes the whole spirit of Christmas complete with a Nativity. I am the first to grumble about the hypocrisy of religions, but it is very important that we remind ourselves the Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Christ and not simply an excuse for manufacturers of toys and luxury items to cash in.

That's where ours was, too, on the buffet in the dining room! Mom put a Bible open to Matthew's description of the Birth and read that to us every year. She has never been a fanatic but always made sure we had a good grounding and knew what the holiday was about. She had a red velvet runner the whole thing would be displayed on and there were candles on either side of the Nativity. Nice memories, aren't they? I wouldn't trade them for all the tea in China!

oh how sweet. what agood friend to get you that cute little dog ornament. it is very sad to loose a pet i know. we dont have one out this year. i just dont even have the care for it. Theres one in my stuff packed in the garage similar to yours. hand made by a prisoner i used to write years ago. we often exchanged gifts. of course he always made his. maybe i'll get it out next year if son has this lady hes been talking to here by then. she has a little boy 6yrs, so we would have plenty of reason to celebrate the holiday

Yes, I don't have many friends but those I have are very dear people. I cried when I opened it, she didn't know what to do! It sounds as if you have a Nativity with a wonderful history. People don't realize that those in prison have hearts and souls and a lot of good in them. I hope things work out for your son and his lady!

We'd like to, but with the cat around, he'd just knock it off of wherever we put it. We don't decorate in here, because the cat will destroy every decoration we'd put up. LOL

LOL!! I'm allergic to cats but when my sons were little I used to put the tree in a playpen so they couldn't get to it. I hung lights from the ceiling so they couldn't pull them down and had my Nativity hanging from the ceiling fan! Cats can get places that even the most determined child cannot, so I see why you don't decorate. Also dangerous for kitty! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas with a lot of decorations in your hearts!
