Human rescue

I thought you would enjoy the other side of this picture. So often we think only of dog rescue, but really how often have you been rescued by a dog? Merry Christmas to all I Rescued A Human Today Author:Janine Allen CPDT I rescued a human today. Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them. As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life. She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well. Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one. I rescued a human today.

Greetings savypat, Imo, an excellent piece here with, at least to me, a unique perspective. Years back we never had pets. That began to change when we were over a friend's house, another pastor, and I was petting his cat. He said he thinks God gave us pets to enjoy. I think so too. I think a mutual ministry transpires between pet and owner.

I think all of us who rescue animal know that it's a two way street, they contribute so much to your life that it is hard to say who rescued whom. Thanks

I really enjoyed this post, and I am not even a dog person. Pets give us a lot, sometimes it is a lot of headaches, but they put their whole heart into whatever they do. Merry Christmas.

Yes our lives would be a lot more simple if we could have the outlook of dogs. Thanks

Yes dogs would have a different point of view. It's a mistake to interpret dog actions as we would human ones. But they must be happy to accept a new pack leader that feeds and houses them. Thanks for your response.

They truly do rescue us, don't they? I have two dogs that rescued me, though they weren't from the pound but rescue societies. They have been a blessing in my life--Gus had just moved in when 9/11 happened and he helped me get through that. Cookie came a couple of years later and together they helped me through my divorce and now brighten my days with their love and kindness. Thank you for this different aspect, it is so true! Happy Christmas to you!
