How do you select books in a library, by authors, print or book name?

When I go to library, I first see the author, then I will see if the print is not very small and is not printed very close and long. I feel bored to read such print, however good the story is. Then I will just read here and there and see whether I like the way of writing and the matter of it like pertaining to friction, war, independence struggle etc. and then select my books. How do you select books, by name or author or print?

When i select which book i will read, i'd go for the book name or title.Even how known the author is,if im not into the story,i will not read it.It matters a lot to me how the story is plotted or how it is being delivered.

Hi Buchi! If I go to a library, I select the books by author. If I happen to know both the title and the author of the book, I would still search for the book by author. I love reading books be it novels, fictions or biographies and as and when I get time, I do grab a book or two from my office Library.

No wonder your posts are so intelligent Dpk262006. I heard from your office that while the entry was being made in the register, you finish reading 10 pages. That shows how much interest you have in reading. Good habit, keep it up.

Hai Vandana, there is a saying, 'Some books are to be tasted, some are to be swallowed and some are to be chewed and digested. So even if dpk chews the book, it is great.

Cover does impress me, but even if it is a good cover, I might be inclined to ignore it if the author is somebody I have never heard of. At the most, I would turn the book and look for the abstract introducing the story. Generally, even if the storyline happens to be good, but the author is not somebody I know, I tend to ignore the book. :) So I guess, it is the author. :)

There was a time when I used to read mostly romance, action packed stuff, but over the years, I am ok with more realistic stuff. I still love murder mysteries. :)

For people who like reading, writers are the main source. If writers do not write, then how can we read a book? So writer Madam, please write and give us the pleasure of reading. Write a book for children with the name 'Neelima cheppu chandamama kathalu'

Thanks Buchi_bulla, you offered an interesting topic for me, I always buy books by all kinds of reasons. Normally before I decided to buy some kinds of books, I would research books through interest, the advises and suggestions mentioned by books' owners would save my money and time, actually will bring me books I need indeed; as you know not all the books searched from internet exist when you enter a book store, so I would pay more attention to the publisher, some famous publisher would sweep some bad books out and let you have confidence to pick books you want; finally every one should browse a book before buy it, then your experience and feeling will guide you.

How can we get books for online reading? Should we pay for it?
• India

You are absolutely correct StevenZhu. We search in the internet but will not get it in the shop. I will not get satisfied if I see the name and author in the internet. I have to see it personally, go through the pages and then only will select it whether for buying or renting from the library.

Hi yor are lucky to borrow books from library, as you know the library is rare in my city, hence to rent books is a difficult task. It's always require orientation to buy books, for example when I extremely desire to improve my tecknical knowledge I will go through internet to find the most one I need, and then buy it at shops. It's common to buy books on internet, sometimes the books are at their half prices. I have no credit card so I give upt to buy books online. In another hand, I will read books online if I haven't interesting to read it deeply, I only buy these books I want to understand it wholefully, so for novells, I prefer to read it online.

When I enter the library I usually know what title I'm looking for, but if I don't, I atleast know the subject matter, and sometimes the author.

Certain authors would have written many books. In that case I go through subject matter like you, and decide whether it is of my choice.

Generally I know what book I'm going to the library for. But if im just going pick out a book at random then I generally look for a noteworthy author, based on either pastexperience with the auothor or word of mouth. The print doesnt generally play too much of a factor when I'm choosing a book. The cover never factors into whether or not I will read a book.

Word of mouth helps us in selection. That way even movies I try to judge by word of mouth.

It depends on my mood. Sometimes, I'm looking for a book by a particular author. Other times, I'm in the mood to read a particular genre. Then, there are those times where I really don't know what I want to read and just randomly browse until I find several books (usually of varying genres) that interest me.

Usually this is what is happening to me. When I go to the library, I will not have any idea what is available as it is a big library. Then I will search known author's rack and see whether I will get anything interesting.

I don't care much about print size, really. If I really like a book, I'll check out what else that author has written, but if I'm only so-so about the books a certain author has written I really won't care. I look at all the shelves and see what covers or titles catch my attention. I'll read the summary and then if I'm still interested, I'll check the book out and read it. I like to read fantasy fiction, my favorite being high fantasy like Lord of the Rings, that takes place entirely in a made-up world. I occasionally read science fiction, and sometimes I'll read realistic fiction but I really don't like it.

Lord of the Rings is everybody's choice I feel. I like it, my children like it and you also like it. Do you like Harry Potter? I like them a lot.

Very true. fantasy existed from such a long time. Can you suggest any more fantasy books to me so that I can gift it to my grand child? Thanks in advance.

I mentioned Lord of the Rings because it's an example of high fantasy that pretty much everybody's heard of. It's not really my favorite book series, though I do like them. Harry Potter is urban fantasy, meaning it takes place in our modern-day world. I don't really like Harry Potter. I don't think it's bad or anything, but it has a lot of fans. I'm pretty tired of telling people I like fantasy and someone immediately asking if I like Harry Potter. Fantasy's been around longer than Harry Potter and there are so many more books in the fantasy genre that I enjoy much more.

I will see the author first and then go through the book and if i find the contents of the book is of my choice of topic then I pick it up. But not always i pick the book of my favourite author, sometimes books of my relevent choice of topics too like tailoring, embroidery, herbs and home made medicines for various diseases

Yes Vathsala and Lordwarwizard, we do not see the author when it comes to topics like embroidary, tailoring and herbs etc. At the same time, as you said, if the topics or subject is of no interest, we will not take those books though they are of the same author.

Yep, sometimes I might like a particular book series from a particularly favorite author. But when I read the synopsis of some of his other books, I just don't think I would like them so I would rather skip them unless I really can't find other more suitable books around.

All of those ways! Sometimes I like an author and will look for more books by them. Other days, I might notice a title which sounds intriguing or a cover which stands out in some way. So it depends. Often I ask for a particular book which a friend has recommended to me or I have read a good review of it.

I usually go into the library and look for an author I'm familar with, then I start browsing book covers. I look to see how big the print is just like you. I read the back to see if it would be a story that I would like to read. I figure if I don't like the book, I will just take it back to the library and find one I do like.

I have certain authors that I LOVE to read, no matter what print it is. I always looking for Authors when I head to the library! Or, if I am looking for a certain book that I am interested in reading. There are only certain books that I enjoy reading though, so looking up the authors name is the best way for me.

When I'm in a library, I select the books by all the three of them: name, author and print. But not only! I read the review, if any, the forward, if any, or some paragraphs of the book. I want to know very well what for my money goes. It is one of my principles when buying any thing!

Finally it is our liking that matters, whether cover or name. Usually authors and publishers take time to decide the name and cover type. So that will give some introduction about the book.
