I've started writing fiction again!

A while back I started a discussion about how I needed help getting back into writing. Well the advice helped for articles and I started writing articles again and making some extra money. Yesterday, my friend Michy from the Accentuate Writers Forum, asked us to write a blog post on why we write. So I wrote the blog post and told everyone I was going to just start writing short stories again. I said I would just do it! Guess what? I just did it! I decided to open a blank word document and just start writing and I got over 2,000 words in a short story. It is a re-write of an older story I lost when I got my new computer but it seems better now. Woo Hoo! I am going to enter it into a short story contest on the Accentuate Writers Forum in March. They have contests going on before that but there are themes and one theme for the March contest really sparked my interest. I figured my older story would fit right in so I started re-writing it from memory. I am almost done and then I need to edit it, which I hate doing and will probably put off until the contest deadline at the end of March. Do you like to write fiction? Do you go through a bad writers block where you don't write anything for months at a time and then just start writing again? :)

I used to write a lot of fiction, but when I got sidelined into writing web articles it seemed to kill my creative instinct. I'm a member of Michy's forum - it's good, isn't it? Michy is great - a real inspiration. Good luck in the competition!

Yes, writing web content does kill your creativity doesn't it? I didn't know you were a part of the Accentuate forum! What is your name on there? Yes, Michy is great! Thanks for responding! :)

Hope to see you there soon. The board is down right now because they are moving it to a new server but it will be up again soon. Happy New Year! :)

I use the same pen name everywhere - so chances are, I'm jazzsue there too. It's been so long since I logged in, I can't remember! New Year's resolution no. 265 - get acquainted with AW again.

i have written lots of non fiction pieces and sold some too. i find that writing fiction is always such a stretch for me because i stick with what i am good at. i have written some short stories but always find dialogue hard to deal with. i am sure there are more contests out there. maybe you could hunt them down?!

Congrats on selling some non-fiction pieces. I like to write non-fiction also. I find dialogue easy but description harder. Thanks for responding! :)

I wrote a couple short stories a while back, but found that non-fiction was a little more up my alley. I have been thinking about writing a some sci-fi short stories and see how well they do in the market. I have a couple story ideas and I'm fleshing them out. I just got to find the time and dedication to make it happen.

Thats great for you! I was having the same kind of writers-block trouble you described. It lasted a very long time, about a year. I felt like I was frozen and unable to write a single readable word. When it finally started to lift it was like the breaking up of a dark storm.

Yes it is very rough when we go through writers block. I felt the same way when I started writing again. It feels great to start writing again! Thanks for responding. :)

Wow, nice to see that you went back to write! I liked writting poetry and short stories in the past, but I went into a non-creativity period and stopped writting. Short ago I began writting articles too, but I still haven't felt the inspiration to go back to write fiction again. Good luck with your contest!

I hope you find your inspiration again soon. I love writing poetry too and have written a good bit of poems. Most are depressing because when I feel depressed, I write poetry. I can't write a happy poem, lol. Thank you for the good luck wishes and thank you for responding! :)

That's always what happens to me with writing fiction. It's a jolt of imagination that seems to come out of nowhere, and leave just as quickly! I hope that I get one of those soon. I have a journal where I write short stories before I put them into the computer (and edit along the way), and I haven't seen the book in months. It just might be time to track it down. I'd love to write more fiction in 2010. I find writing fiction much more challenging than nonfiction articles! Continued good luck. You might want to check out the writing contests in "Poets & Writers" magazine, too!

So glad to hear you are back to writing fiction! I know how much you enjoy it. I wish you all the best in the Accentuate contest and any others you join. I hope you keep the motivation to write fiction because I think you'll do great with it!
