Hi there. This is an easier one and it may raise your hunger pangs……….lol! Most of us love bread and sandwiches. How about having some sandwiches of your choice. One can make variety sandwiches from vegetarian to non-vegetarian. In the common categories of sandwiches one can include butter, cream and cucumber sandwiches. Then there could be different variations of it. Like few would like to add creamy cheese and sauce to their sandwiches or some would like to add layers of lettuce or tomatoes, some would go for grated carrot and/or rings of onions, or boiled egg……….sounds yummy it not it. Some of us like to have big club sandwiches to satiate our hunger. Do you like having sandwiches of bread and if you like what are your preferences and how much variations you can make in sandwiches and how much variety you have tried. Would like to know your choice about sandwiches. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Hi ck! Glad to see you back to mylot and to my discussion. Your response tells that you love variety of sandwiches and you can have tuna and chicken and you can have vegetable sandwiches as well. What is so special about tuna, which makes it exceptional as a sandwich filling. I agree that if the bread is toasted the taste of a sandwich changes to better. Thanks for telling about your choice. Have a nice evening! Deepak

I can just survive on sandwiches, to be precise, on bread and cheese. You give me some slices of breads and some easily available dining ingredients and I would prepare some lovely, filling, healthy and not-so-healthy sandwiches for you. Apart from conventional sandwiches and my mom's very won club sandwiches I love bread with condensed mild spread or strawberry paste and with a little sprinkle of 'bhujia'. Try it at home, it's awesome! I also love make sandwiches with chocolate chips inside and a generous spread of cream and banana slices. I love it as well. Yo can go creative with it and trust me it works everytime.

Hi dear! :-) You mentioning about 'Bhujia' made me nostalgic...... Lol! Myt took me back to my childhood when I would exactly do the same thing i.e. Spreading 'BHujia' on the sandwich and gulping it in a jiffy. I have never tried chocolate chips or banana as fillings. However, have tried milk & malai on bread. Thanks a lot for making the discussion delicious with your inputs. :-)

Hi, dpk262006. Yes, I love eating sandwiches. I like one of my sandwiches to have the orange cheese on it. I am unsure of the name of it. I can't remember. And I would love an sandwich with turkey, lettuce and tomatoes on it. Just by itself. Another one would have salmon and swiss cheese. Another one would have ham, cheese, cucumbers and sliced jalepenos. I love eating a variety of sandwiches.

am from a rice as a staple food country and this really satiates one's hunger till the next snack time. i even take rice as a snack but when i was just adjusting to the schedule of my toddler going to school i find myself reaching for a sandwich and this is where i really appreciated it's convenience. grilled cheese sandwich is okay but i'd never get tired of egg salad on my bread.

Hi Vathsala! You have stated all the varieties, which we prefer to have here in India. We people prefer simple sandwiches with not too much fillings. We will make do with tomatoes and onions and with some butter, because these are the items which are easily available in our homes. Please keep enjoying your sandwiches. Thanks for telling us about your choice.

Hi Deepak, Like most around the world, I love sandwiches not only coz they are filling, easy to make and simple but more because they are a great option to take to office as lunch on days when I don’t want to make anything at all or the fridge is just empty LOL. But one thing I must say is that though I’ve read of a lot of options for sandwiches, most of them taste the same…so sandwiches are a kind of boring. The ones I’ve tried range from simple cucumber & tomato & egg fried types to smashed eggs in mayo types to cheese and salami types…cant really make any other variety

Hi Deepak, Boring in the sense that I really cant think of any more options than the four or five I’ve mentioned. Its either with veg & cheese filling or egg filling or chicken filling with butter or mayo as the base. Well, sometimes I stuff mashed potatoes too but other than that I cant think of any more ways to make sandwiches with things I have at home. I tried a paneer filling but it didn’t taste nice. I come across so many recipes but either the ingredients are too expensive or not available locally or we didn’t like the taste that much. Like me and my son (my food companion) had heard so much about tuna sandwich that I just went ahead and bought a can of tuna (a small one costing about 80 bucks, coming all the way from Thailand LOL) but the taste of that raw fish was just too overwhelming even to our Bengali tastebuds and nose LOL! And then we hear of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches…well that’s something I can try …both the ingredients are readily available at home but wont that be too sweet???!!! So there you are…amn’t I stuck with the same boring options??? LOL

Sudipta! You mean to say that options are limited and you get bored trying those same options, is not it? Thanks a lot for telling me about 'tuna' experience, I was wondering what was so special about Tuna fish and why do people like it so much, but you have said it all that it is not as tasty as you expected, when you tried it. As far as peanut butter is concerned, I bought one jar of peanut butter manufactured by ITC, however, it was ridicules and sweet in taste and no one in the family liked it and ultimately we had to throw the jar (it was priced around Rs.90/- for 500 gms).

Hi sudipta! It is interesting to know that you carry your sandwiches as your lunch because it is an easier option to carry. Yes, you are right that most of us like to have sandwiches, when there are no other options. I am perplexed by your statement that 'most of them taste the same and sandwiches are a kind of boring'?. Please explain. Thanks for sharing your choice. Have a nice day! Deepak

When it comes to sandwiches, it depends on what type of bread lol. Like it is regular wheat or white or hoagie then I just make sandwiches with deli meat, mayo, tomatoes, lettuce and american cheese. Now if is Pumpernickel, then I like the same except with deli cheese. if it is croissant or english muffin, gimme some eggs, bacon and cheese and I got a nice breakfast sandwich. I love different combos of sandwiches and not really too picky.

Hiya dpk26, Salami Sandwiches are the ones I dislike the most of all and anything with shellfish in it. Love Tuna Fish though and all the other kinds of Sandwiches but nothing to do with with tongue either that sort of thing out a tin like Spam. As for all the rest I like the whole lot of them.

Hiya dpk26, Salami Sandwiches are too greasy for me including the Chicken I have tried to eat them but they don´t agree with me. Tuna Fish is much tastier and much healthier up to a point anyway. I usually use tinned Tuna Fish and with Salad too.

Hi deepak, the ones that you are suggesting add calories. :) I choose a simpler one. I use bread, fry it without oil on pan - then I grind fresh tomatoes, a few chillies, a few garlic cloves, a bit of tamarind, salt, chillies, and corriander to taste. I use this on my bread, and cut it neatly. I think this must be healthy, because tomatoes are healthy (ask jonjee), green chillies are healthy (ask jonjee), and corriander for herb is great. :) So it is different but less fattening than what you have in mind. :) I also make corriander and cumin seeds chutney like that. But I have to use a little bit of butter then to let it spread. :( Whatever it is, I love sandwiches. I love them with eggs as well. :) I am a vegetarian so no sardines and tuna for me. :)

Hi vandana! After reading your choice, at least I should feel good that if I happen to visit you any day, you will treat me with some very delicious sandwiches, which would be good from the health point of view too.. How do you fry the bread without oil, I am at my wits end? The combination of tomatores, chillies and tamarind appears quite interesting to me. I'll try it. It is good to know that you love sandwiches like me. I too love it.. Needless to say thanks for sharing your secret of sandwiches.

I like sandwiches. But unless I have all choices of ingredients in front of me, I hate preparing it. If I had to make one for lunch, it wouldn't be as good, as it would be missing a few ingredients. My favorite bread though is sourdough bread. That's why I like the sourdough jack from jack in the box. But I haven't made a sourdough sanwich for myself. I should!

I make different kind of sandwiches raging from the simple ones with jam or marmalade or Amul butter to the Subway type of cucumber, cabbage, mint chutney, tomato sandwich or potato slices, onion, tomato, cucumber piled on top of a chutney spread sliced sandwich, mashed potato spread on one side and shallow fried sandwich, green gram dhal paste made with chillies onion and ginger spread on one side and shallow friend on a tawa. When the sandwich is very simple, I just enliven it with some hot spicy chutny and raw vegetables and decorate it beautifully and colourfully adding some almonds, kismis, and dates for adornment. My husband and son just drool over the decoration and forget how ordinary the sandwich was and appreciate me for the loving effort that went into it.

Hi Kala! It appears you prepare very sumptuous and healthy sandwiches and I'll have to come to Mumbai to taste those delicious sandwiches. I agree with you that decoration could double the pleasure of eating a simple dish and you see what we get in good hotels and restaurants, they always garnish and decorate the dishes beautifully and we feel tempted towards such dishes. I hope your family enjoys your special preparation of sandwich every time you make it. Thanks for sharing your secret of sandwiches.

i love sandwiches too. i prefer to just mix up all the ingredients. once i tried something silly, and it ended up as a favourite of everyone in my family. i applied butter on the sides of the bread, then salsa on one side and cheese on the other. i then sprinkled some oregano and chilly flakes on it, and toasted it. it was so yummy. i love grill cheese vegetable sandwich, since i am a vegetarian. i also like to eat butter/cucumber/tomato/boiled potato sandwich. its not grilled and you sprinkle salt and pepper on the inside. it tastes heaven with tomato ketchup. there's also a cheese chilly sandwich that i love, as its cheesy as well as spicy. it has only cheese and chopped green chilly in it, and its grilled or toasted... i also make some weird combinations that turn out delicious, but its a result of anything i can find in the refrigerator...

Hi Khushi! I love the name 'Khushi' because it immediately brings smile on my face. Incidently, I met another user (who is now in my friends' list) whose real name not user name is Khushi. I am not sure if it is your real name. It is interesting to know that your experiment with the combination of butter, salsa and cheese with some oregano and chilly flakes proved to be a hit with everyone. I agree with you that grilled sandwhiches taste better than the normal sandwiches. Your response tells that you love experimenting, I would say - Keep doing new things, it will make you more creative. Thanks for joining with your wonderful response, hope to see you in my another discussions.
