My kids jewelry might be toxic??

So I just read this news article on the front yahoo page. So it says that Walmart, Claires and a few other stores are pulling a lot of their kids jewelry because it is made with a toxic metal. If put in there mouth or anything. These charms and other jewelry were made in China. I jumped at first, guess what my girls both got for Christmas, guess what my 4 yr old just had in her mouth yesterday and guess where they were made. Yes you got it, a necklace charm, made in China and bought from Walmart. I hate how they don't say exactly what pieces anywhere online, trust me I tried finding it. And they also don't say how much exposure to this toxic metal they need to get sick or what not. It only says that it can cause IQ loss and what not. Should I be worried? Should I confiscate these until I find out more? What would you do?

Luckily, my daughter is now beyond the age of putting things in her mouth that don't belong there, however, I have to say that this highly bothered me. My daughter has worn jewelry since she was two months old. How are we to know how long this has been going on with children's jewelry. It really bothers me that the world has not been more proactive with the problems in things that have come out of China. I hope that there haven't been a lot of children that have been injured by this.

Yes that is a good question. My kids have had jewelry since young ages too. And me, I wear this stuff sometimes too. I think we have no idea how much toxins are used in our kids toys and other things. It is very scary.

It's scary, you don't know what to or not to buy your kids anymore. Glad I don't have children. If I did, I would have my husband and my brother make presents for them out of wood from the trees on our property. There are a lot of plans out there for planes, trains, and cars as well as Noah's Ark and animals. For a little girl, I think I would make a rag doll out of clothes I've worn for years way before all the recalls that say made in America on them. I think you should see if someone can test them to see if they're OK or not. I know my Dr. has a sign in his office to have children tested for led, but this latest thing, I don't even know if they have tests for it. You could try calling your DR. Take care and good luck.

Yes my kids have state health care and they do regular tests like this. I think she will be okay. We have no idea how many toxic things are kids are around all of the time. It's crazy.

If they say it causes memory loss and its toxic its bound to be lead as china has come into it on several items that they find contain lead in such a way a child could ingest it. So yes be worried and confiscate them until you can get more information. that is what I would do, were it me.
