Have you ever joined a walk/run for a cause?

I've just registered for my first ever walk for a cause! I joined a 10K walk for the Cystic Fibrosis foundation. It won't take place until May, I have until then to raise at least $150 in donations. Cystic Fibrosis is very close to my heart because my Godfather died of this when I was young.. he was 30 years old. He had a brother who also had it but died when he was 2 years old. What walk/runs have you joined? Did you have to raise money? How well did you do?

Me and my family have done about 10 that I remember. My parents always paid for the donation. We just did it for fun and to help donate to a charity. The only thing I think you get from winning is well recognition. I just dont see the point in winning a charity race as there is only one charity and I would hope you would not take money from that charity as a prize

Winning is not the point.. and the prize usually is not money. We do get a prize depending on how much money we raise. If I reach my goal I'll get a t-shirt.

yea but some people will go to the charity event and seriously compete and I always wonder. Never won the charity race but I have always gotten a T-shirt and that was always enough for me.

Since college, I've been joining "fun runs" which was founded locally by some NGO's here in my country. Every year, they had this event and all the proceeds goes to the less fortunate people here in my country. This event was sponsored by many product endorsers and the registration is free.

I did a fun run when I was in grade school, but I do not remember if it was sponsored or if proceeds went to anyone.

I have never done a walk/run for a cause before, but back when I was in like 5th grade I did a dance-a-thon for some charity. I did not raise all that much money, but I did raise some money.

Some is better than none. Hope I can do well with mine, thankfully I have a bit of time to gather the donations.

Hi, katsmeow1213. I never signed up for a walk or run for an cause. But, I did, walked with my son at school. They had an walking activity going on. I am unsure what it was for. But I know that it was for a good cause. We walked for about 20 minutes until we all got to the school to eat breakfast. It was really fun. I enjoyed it so much. I am very sorry to hear about your Godfather dying from Cystic Fibrosis and his son too. I can understand why this has motivated you to join the walk/cause. You are doing something positive that they would be proud of you of. I would like to join one of these one day too. I would like to make a difference in someone's life.

I'm proud and excited of what I'm going to do. I'm even interested in doing some others.. but I can't do very many that require the donations. I don't know a whole lot of people, this one is going to be tough enough. But thanks to some very generous people, I'm already a third of the way to my goal.

I've not done a walk or run but, I have done a ike ride where I cycled 60 miles to raise money for the local animals charity. It was hard work but, very rewarding and I am sure you'll feel the same when you have completed it! Good luck!

I am already very proud just for signing up... just a little nervous about getting the donations.

I am sure you will be fine - I had people donate to me that I never even thought I would because they liked the charity so sometimes you get suprise donations!

I have not, my network marketing company hosts one each year at their convention. Limu Kids, the money goes to reward children for getting through a cancer treatment at the houston clinic. I didn't "have" to raise money, but I did donate a little, I wasn't able to attend, from what I understand the thing all together raised a lot of money. How should I make my donation out to you? paypal?

There is a box on my Mylot profile page to donate to my walk, it's called Great Strides. Thanks for taking interest.

I have a hard time walking, and running is absolutely out of the question. I don't use a wheelchair on a regular basis because I can walk as much as I need to, but for something like that, I would need a wheelchair in order to go the distance. If they had one for wheelchairs, I'd join in a minute!

I've never joined one before.. guess I was worried about having to raise the donations because I don't know a lot of people. Now that I've joined this one, I'm really excited. I'm still nervous about getting enough donations, but I'm still proud that I'm doing something for a cause I care so much about.

No I haven't. But I did help sponsor someone. That is as close as I have come. It was a walk for cancer. That is what my grandmother passed from. Good luck raising your donations.

There have been several I've joined. My company does a walk every year for children. I'm having a temporary brain fart on the exact charity...

When I was a child our school hosted a jump-a-thon where kids would jump rope. They would get people to donate money per minute of jumping I think. I can't remember what the cause was, but I think it might have been cancer. I raised probably $25 - $50 bucks. I guess I could have done more, but I've always hated to ask people for money, since you never know their circumstances. For me I'd rather donate my own money, and let other people donate as they feel inclined to do so... I just hate asking!

I'm shy about asking too, but I'd better get over it if I want to raise enough money before my run in May.

Hello kats, No I myself have never walked for a cause but I have pledged quite a few times. I have a friend whose daughter walks for the special olympics inspiration walk so I pledge for her. I would also like to pledge or walk for diabetes but I haven't found a walk that is close enough to my area.

I have done a couple. The first one was the popular RAce For A Cure. It was the largest race I've ever been in. There were like 16000 racers! It was a 5K. The other was to benefit the brain tumor association of Oklahoma. It was also a 5K and I placed third in my age grup!

I've never joined one of these yet. I was going to join Team in Training this year, but with the economy being the way that it is this year I knew that it was not an option. My brother did it last year. He did a Triatholon and had to raise 3500 dollars to do it. I think he was able to raise half of the money from friends and family. He was able to raise a part of it from fundraisers and a part of it from yardsales. I want to do this as soon as I know that it will be feasible for our family to pick up the slack that we didn't raise.

Ah well,we don't really have a lot of walk/runs in India for a cause. This mode of increasing awareness for a cause is still not very popular here.We still have the traditional methods prevailing for this purpose. The only major event we have in relation to this is the Mumbai Marathon which takes place every year in our business city.People from all over the world including our own celebrities, business tycoons participate in it.Probably, this will encourage the masses to have more of similar events in the future..
