Pet names for your significant other

I've not got a lot of pet names for my husband, I typically just call him Babe and he typically calls me woman. What he calls me could easily be considered to be degrading, but I don't see it that way at all. I think of it as his way of showing affection and I think that it is unique. How about you, what are your pet names for your significant other? Is there a reason that you have those pet names? What is there pet name for you? What do you think of it?

That is such a cute pet name to use for your spouse. It is clear to see from this that the two of you have a wonderful relationship with one another.

Too funny. I can't believe that you all use nymph and maniac although I must admit that there are times that I would like to use these for my husband.

I call my love Baby. he said he loves all the terms of endearments so I tried to use them all but my favorite are Baby and My Darling. I told him I don't like dear because it seems condescending at times and he agreed.

My dislike comes from a scene in fame where the b!tch of the piece used Dear to demean another character.

I don't like dear either, it sounds like you are trying to split up with a person, somewhat like the dear John letters.

I call my husband bear cub. He calls me hun or sweetheart. I remember back in 2007 my husband and I had gone to Las Vegas to visit my parents, my brother, my sister and my niece and nephews and I had called my husband bear cub. Well, my niece and younger nephews are two and a half years old and they kept calling him Uncle Bear Cub. It was so cute.

I thought it was adorable with my cousin when my dad was in the hospital in a coma after his heart attack and she brought him a little gift that she had painted herself and on the tag it said To: Uncle Daddy. I know that she came from a family where her parents were divorced, but her father was still very much so a part of her life.

That is very cute that they decided to start calling him Uncle Bear Cub. Do they still call him that to this day? I'm curious because one of my cousins decided to start calling my father Uncle Daddy when she was about six years old and she continued to call him that until he passed away when she was ten years old.

Yes she still does. I think it is cute. I wonder how old she will be when she stops calling him Uncle Bear Cub. Kids are so cute. One never knows what they will say.

If we want to talk about the names that we've given to teachers, there was a seventh grade math teacher at my school that we always referred to as Mouse, and yes there were some classmates that would bring cheese to school and leave on her desk.

Great, We were very mischievous also. I have refereed one of my teachers name as "PADU". He was very short in height. And in those days in 1999, there was a cricket world cup was held that, as the world cup camping INDIA had adopted a slogan from their official sponsor HONDA, the slogan was "GO INDIA GO". From getting inspiration from that slogan we used to right "GO PADU GO" on the TOP of the black board. (Padu is short form of his last name "PADUMAL" He caught in very helpless condition where he could see it's written there but can't erase it. So he simply ignore it but the annoy can be seen on his face.

My petname is 'lyfie', meaning his body, it is not esy to translate this, sorry. I call him 'my pippie'. That name means his head, because when he shaved his head about 14 years ago, he actually looked like a peachpip. We are afrikaans, so the meaning is not that easy to describe.

Thank you so much for trying to describe the meaning for me. Both of these are truly beautiful and I'm sure very meaningful nicknames for each other.

Sorry I thought about using husband or wife for this discussion, but there are so many people that it is difficult to call out to everyone without using too many words. I always just call my husband my husband when I am talking about him.

That is interesting. I have a friend who calls his wife 'girl'. I knew this becuase his desk is next to mine at work and I hear him talking over phone loud all the time. I call my husband as dear, baby, or honey as he calls me and there is no other special name. I like it my friends or family to call me by my original name. I don't prefer any shrot names, but if somebody calls me by a short name, I keep my mouth shut and leave it for their choice.

There is no shortened version of my name, so I deal with the fact that people have to call me by my full given name. Actually because of that I said I would never call my children by a shortened name, but my daughter Kathryn is actually typically referred to as Kat.

We have been married just over eight years now. I generally either refer to him by his name, or as honey, unless I am slightly perturbed at him. Then, he is usually "dear". (Not what you was expecting me to say, was it)? My husband refers to me as woman on occassion, and like you, I do not take offense to it. We had seen Ron White on Blue Collar Comedy Tour. Since then, he often calls me scooter. It doesn't bother me. It could be worse. He could refer to me as his "old lady". That would not go over very well. I think we develop pet names for all the people we love. Pet names are just a way to express the affection we have for those we care about.

Oh, I always hate it for people when I hear a man use the term "old lady" I don't think that I would ever be able to deal with that one either.

I haven't called my husband by his real name in years - and I don't know why (and he doesn't either - hee hee). I call him Behbee and in "Baby", and I really don't know how that got started. If I need to email him, I'll say "hi BB" and I'll sign off as "bb" - hee hee. He calls me by what everyone else calls my name for short, which is something like "chalk". I'm used to it because so many people call me that! It's been so many years . . . not sure if we remember each other's real names - ha ha!

Whenever I call my husband by his given name I feel really weird about it. Whenever I've called him by his parent's nickname for him, he always looks at me really strange, so I choose to just stick to babe.

I don't really like using pen names, but I was called sunshine once or twice by my boyfriend. I have made myself to call him "honey". It is easier for me to use pen names with some of my friends but it is never easy to use them for the person I am dating

I can see that it would be difficult to do with someone that you are dating because in a sense there is no permanence in the relationship. If you are ever married you may find it easier to do.

I have some friends that always called each other by their first name and I remember when their little boy Chase was about three years old, he didn't call them Mommy and Daddy, he referred to his parents as Rachel and Shane.

I normally go by Pam but family and close friends call me PJ. My man's name is Patrick. When we get married, we'll be Patty and PJ. I love how that kinda switches up our genders. I usually get stuck on one nickname for him, which is Patty, but sometimes PatMan comes up. Recently, I randomly called him Irish because, well, he's part Irish. He's more creative with what he calls me. It's either PamBear or Pbear. He's got a light southern accent that fits perfectly on my complete given name which is Pamela Jean. But I think I like Pbear better. Makes me sound like a real Care Bear :)

That is neat that your nicknames switch up the gender that we assume for individuals to be. Good luck with your upcoming wedding (I'm assuming).

hi dorannmwin yes I used to call him lunkhead, and goonball, but these were meant in jest, and he was a person with a ripe sense of humor. To him he knew I meant those only in fun, and as I hated my first name Patsie, he would often call me Pattytricia as I had always wished my name was Patricia instead. I loved it when he called me that, also Babe was another name he called me and I loved it as it came from him. His Babe was unique and came from love, anyone else called me that I would have clobbered them but from him it was wonderful. We also had a code, sorry, we've another appointment, which meant lets get the heck out of here. This came in useful in many ways such as when we were at a family dinner and it turned into a family quarrel so we could legitimately leave. I guess that most family has some sort of code that they use.

I agree with you that every family has a code that they use. My hubby knows that I don't really like being around his family so he will get us out of there in a hurry by claiming that we've got other things that we need to do. And as far as the Babe thing, I think you are right that the only person that can legitimately call you by that nickname is your significant other.
