Are both of your parents still alive?

I lost my mom over 8 yrs ago to breast cancer and 3 weeks ago I lost my dad to a heart attack. There's been an absolute emptiness in me lately. It took me a long while before I got over my mom's death. It's my second time around with the death of my dad recently. It's been tough. I am a parent myself and I can't imagine my children losing me someday. It's totally depressing. Are your parents still alive? If so please continue to be grateful. If not then how long ago did they pass away? Were you close with them? I wasn't close with my dad as I was with my mom but I still miss the man. I'm glad he's resting in peace now though.

I know....it's never easy when you lost someone you loved to cancer. It's such a horrible disease. I've dreamt about my mom a couple of times since she passed and each time she looked happy and smiling in my dreams. Recently I also dreamt about my dad waving and smiling at me. I guess it's their way of saying "i'm doing fine over here". Thank you for your response.

hello gicolet, my condolences... well i understand how difficult it was to lose a parent, its like losing one part of ourselves, this is what my mom told me when my grandmother passed away some years ago. she said that it seems that she just lose a pillar... i am just one of those lucky one to have both my parents alive. although i am no longer living with them, i still try to let them know how much i love them & how much i care, and in my on little ways, i try to make our relationship better each day... life is so short to be wasted, so as long as i still have the time, i would want to spend it showing my love & affection as well as appreciation to my parents...

Thank you. That's right..life is so short. You're doing the right thing to your parents. Every little love and affection counts. Thank you again.

Yes, they are. I haven't seen my dad since I was 22, and I don't expect to. This is because we have an uncomfortable relationship, and I'm better off not dealing with him. My mom lives in Pennsylvania. We get along much better than I do with my dad. I see her about once or twice a year at Christmas and other family events.

I am thankful that both my parents are still alive. I don't know what will happen if one of them should pass away and how to care for a parent that lost his or her mate. It must be pretty hard. You are right in reminding all of us to be grateful and to make the most of the time that is left since we do not really know how long they will still be with us.

Hi gicolet, I am really sorry! Thanks for reminding us, how blessed we are! I lost my mom almost 45 years ago! My father is around. And there is going to be a lot that I will miss if he is not around. We've had our share of differences, more than the most, which have resolved only since last four years. So now I know what it means to have a parent, and I dread the moment when I will lose him. Yes, the feeling will be exactly as you describe.

Thankfully, both my parents are still very much alive, and I pray each day that it stays that way. Losing the people who helped bring you into this world must be the hardest thing imaginable, and I cannot imagine how I would react in such a situation. My heart goes out to all those who have lost parents, and how they have managed to stay strong

My condolences, that must be rough. Thankfully I still have both of my parents and I wouldn't know what I would do without them. I miss them even though they are still alive, so I can't imagine it with them being gone.

Both my parents are alive. But often i am afraid, i'm afraid that one day they will leave me alone in the world. My dad is a heavy smoker, i tried to persuade him to stop smoking because it is harmful to his health, but he don't care. I don't want to lose them, but i really don't know what can i do for their health.
