Clearer Discussions?

United States
February 13, 2010 4:37am CST
Would it make it easier for everyone if people described their question better so everyone could understand what they were asking? I have seen stuff that I try to guess what they are trying to ask but I don't answer them because I have no idea what they are looking for. For example on a question,"Your Food", Please explain to me? I think if people could be clearer with their questions they would have a lot more responses and a much better discussion. Maybe this is just me feeling this way?

Coming from a country where English is less used, I can well understand your dilemma in comprehending people from these countries. But so far I can present my words clear and concise so that explains why I am able to draw in an interesting number of responses.

It's not everyone I have trouble understanding. It's more the unclear discussions people start because they are trying to make the most money possible. If people read the FAQs they would know it does not matter how any discussions you make you wont get any money unless you reply to those that answer

I get what you mean. Posting too many discussions and not commenting on them won't earn you any money. That is for this reason that I rarely post discussions as my responsibilities as the starter of a discussion doesn't stop after posting. I need to see every responses that I get are replied. And so far I have never fail in my obligations to give out my comments.

Neither do I that is why I post usually 2 discussions a day and the rest I respond back to my discussion or to others discussions that they have started

Yeah! i fully agree with your statement many of the persons didn't give a better description on their discussions and the persons who see their questions didn't understand what they are trying to ask thats why they get little response....

If I even have somewhat of an idea that someone is trying to say I will answer it to the best of my knowledge

No, not just you. I see a lot of things like that and given that some are written by people who don't have English as a first language an so can't express themselves very well, others are just pointless or just plain incomprehensible and I just ignore them. I'm not going to waste my time trying to figure out what it is they are trying to say when there are better discussions there to reply to. Having said that, if it's the case that they are just not expressing themselves very well, but I can work out what it is that they are trying to say, and I'm interested in it, then I'll respond to that.

I agree, if it is something that I can pretty much figure out and interests me I will reply.

Hi Wisereptiles, In a discussion site of this kind there are bound to be all kinds of dicussions being posted. Some of them are in my opinion dowright silly, but they get the maximum number of responses and the ones that I struggle to comprehend also get a lot of responses, where it is a free for all...you can just post what you want lol..honestly I too have come across many such discussions which are vague, leading nowhere...All the best

I agree that anyone can post anything they want and what we may not find interesting others may. I started this discussion because it is nice seeing everyone elses view on a topic.

I come across those on a regular basis. I see it mostly in places like computers, cell phones, or general eletronic catagories where people are asking for help. They don't provide details, and I can't help them. I'll often reply and tell them to explain otherwise i nor anyone else can troubleshoot their problem.

Yes, if they are not more clear then it is almost impossible to help someone by trying to figure out what they were trying to ask or what point they were trying to convey in the question.

WiseReptiles hi yes I think so too as I have come upon discussions that were so concise that they did not explain really what they wanted and I had not ever heard of the term eat your socks, the person wanted to know when if ever you ate your socks? And I am going what the heck does this person mean.finally someone asked if that was a cultural term and the poster finally said it meant eating what he considered junk food, I suppose like hamburgers and french fries, or potato chips, or pretzels or whatever were considered junk food in this poster's country. But without the explanation I would never have known what was meant by eating your socks.

I often come across discussions which end up leaving me confused as to what they are aiming for. A recent example, without naming it, had a good question for the title but then the discussion rambled on about something else and didn't really pose a question. It left me confused and as always happens when a discussion confuses me I move on rather than answering it in a manner which the originator wasn't expecting or wanting. What I tend to do and have seen others do this is to finish off a discussion I start with a very clear question which I am wanting answered or discussed.

Yeah I could have probably come up with a much clearer description of the topic I was starting. I am guilty of sometimes not being clear enough as well as being to clear where I ramble on and on.
