I heard a mother tell her son to stay away from "Them Goth Kids" because they worship the devil and are drug addicts, while I am positive that a lot of Goths dont use drugs, I do want to know what they believe, so could you tell me if they believe in Satan.

The church's creation of Satanism gave the theological foundation for the "burning times" in which tens of thousands of religious heretics, mentally ill people, and supremely unlucky individuals were burned at the stake (in Roman Catholic countries) or hung (in Protestant countries). This form of Satanism never existed in the past as an organized entity. It does not exist today, except in the imagination of the public, and in horror movies. Belief in the reality of Satan-worshiping witches remains widespread in North America today, particularly among religious conservative. Sometimes, this imaginary form of Satanism is referred to as Gothic Satanism. We recommend against this term, because it might be confused with the Goth sub-culture. The latter is a philosophical, musical, cultural group that is not directly related to Satanism. However, a larger percentage of Goths are Satanists, than are found in the general population. Are their Gothic Christians or would that be an oxymoron. I am hearing that they practice many different religions with Satanism being the most prevalent yes and no...Yes there are Gothic Christians and No Satanism is NOT the most popular religion within the true Goth community....I would say that the majority is actually either Agnostic or Atheist..

"Goth" is not a religion. Goths believe any number of things. Saying "Goths worship the devil" is rather like saying "Jocks worship the devil." Some do, most don't.

Some do and some don't. Satanic worship among goths is just a stereotype. Just as I wouldn't know what religion you belonged to if I just passed you on the street, you can't really tell if a goth is a is a Satanist (in the Christian sense) without asking.

I can't answer this that simply. I use to be into that stuff when I was younger. There's many different types of Goths. There's the old school goths. The rarest (you'll probably never meet any), they like to wear period clothing (victorian/gothic era i believe), they are very mannered. They don't do the vampire thing. Then there's the vampire goths. They're of the modern goths that wear black, and black face makeup. Of them there are the ones that just like the fashion. They're into black. There's the ones that think they are vampires. There's the ones that just want to be popular. There's the ones that want to be different. And there are the ones that are satanists, because they think they are the same thing. However satanists, and goths are not the same people. Out of all the different types of people that would consider themself goth, most don't follow satan. Very few. Some believe in God, some even Jesus, and some don't believe in anything.

And there are the ones that are satanists, I'm sorry but that is REALLY UNaccurate! Vamps and goths are NOT the same at all..Just like true Goth is a culture (sub) so is Vamp..and as for PsyVamps there are TONS of ppl that ARE psyvamps that arent even aware of it and thats a topic all on its own...Yes there are Vamps that do it for fashion/show/shock value (usually, in fact IMO 99% of the time those are kids/the younger crowd) but for true Vamps its a way of life not a fashion statement...As for "period" Goths (the rarest as you put it) there are many of htem within the community

Ok thank you that helped some but it brought a whole bunch of new questions. What is a vampire goth, why do they believe in vampires and what exactly is that.

Vampire goths, look just like any other goth. Some you can spot by the fingernails. Almost every goth wears black fingernail paint. But the vamps have grown their nails out long, and have them cut to a sharp point. Some go so far as to have their teeth given the vampire look with canine implants. Some you wouldn't know they are, cause they look just like everyone else. what are vampires? For modern goth people there are two types. Blood vampires, and energy vampires. The energy vampire as grown very popular, as you don't have to pretend you can't go out during the day, or can change into a bat.

You can't judge a book by it's cover. It's the same with people.I suggest you make Them Goth Kids your best friend. You might discover all of them are not monsters.

I am a little old for Goth kids to be my friends I really wanted to know why people felt they worshiped the devil.

As others have said, it is really more a lifestyle thing than anything to do with religion. Goths can be any religion or none. More of the old-style goths are just hippies with better dress sense! A lot I knew were peace-advocates, vegetarians and very gentle people. I think a lot of what you see now is more Emo than Goth and they are very different. Not that Emo kids are bad either, just a different fashion entirely.

I think that some of them represent Satan while others just do so because of their sense of style. They all belong to a special clique that dresses like this. Or they may just be inspired by an musical singer or band that is into goth. When you look at them with their heavy makeup and dark lipstick plus pale faces, it makes you wonder if they are following Satan or not. They look grotesque in appearance and attitude.

I have lots of experience with "Them Goth Kids", some even consider me to be one. "Goth" is just a sterotype, like "Jock", "Prep", and "Nerd". It has absolutely nothing to do with ones religion. Plus, the preconcieved thought that goths only wear black is not true. It just depends on what kind of goth you are. (Yes there are catagories of goths) From some of your comments I noticed that you probably do not know much about the goth culture, so I am going to give some basics to help you out. I hope they are useful! The goth you are probably thinking of is the "Mopey Goth". This would be the "only wear black and complain as much as possible" goths. The type of goth that I have had the most interaction with is the "Rockabilly Goth". Basically to get one of these, combine the 50's with punk. The ones I know tend to be fans of both Elvis and A.F.I. Cyber goth is one of the more colorful types. They are REALLY into bright neon colors. One of my favorite goth types is the J-Goth. They are basically the Harajuku Girls version of goth. It's really cute. They tend to look like dark anime characters. Some consider me to be "Goth Geek". Which would mean that I spend more time thinking about gothic things than gothic fashion. Which is true... Now this is NOT complete list of goth types, but hopefully this gives you an idea of what a true goth really is.
