What's more effective, studying for exams at late night or studying at dawn?

March 6, 2010 7:01am CST
This month March is already the month for final examinations as summer vacation will soon be on.I remembered my students days when during examinations, in order to get better grades, I make sure to study well so as to be fully equipped to answer the questions.I really hate it when I can't answer most of the questions during exams. And then I remember that the dawn is the best time for me to study.I could study at late night also but with less concentration. The dawn with it's quietness and then no ones around but just me with loads of book and also with my fresh mind as I just woke up,surely the result of the test is but positive. How about you?Which time do you find effective for studying?Do care to respond please.

When I was in school, for me it worked a lot better for me to be able to do my studying at night because of the fact that I am and have always been a night owl. If I would have tried to do it in the morning, I don't think that my studying would have gotten done because sometimes it takes everything that I have to drag myself out of bed in the morning. However, if a person is a natural early bird I think that the circumstance would be different.

I find that it does not matter to me as to what the best time would be, unless i read and prepare myself. But yes, i prefer studying in the Dawn just a little more than at night because you are fresh and you can retain what you read as the exam would be on the same day.

As of my experience, I do study late at night. The time was from 10pm to 2am. At 10pm, there were still television sounds and some people talking around me. I can’t concentrate on that part so most of the reading happened on the time. During 12am to 2am, the memorization begins. I hate memorization that is why I always do it at the end. For me it is more effective if I do the studying at that time because sometimes, when I was sleeping its really tired to wake up at dawn because its so good to sleep, its so good to have a complete sleep. I do that so that even if I wake up late in the morning, I am already equipped and ready for the exam. I don’t have to worry that I will cram for it. I do the review while on the vehicle, just some glimpse of what I memorized that night.

hmm...when i was in college, for short quizzes i study an hour before the exam for short term memory hahaha.. but for major exams, I prefer taking a recap at dawn too... somehow, the brain is already refreshed from all the thinking you did all day..

Hey friend, In my education life, I used to read both at late night and early in the morning. Though I felt easy preparing my study in both times, dawn proved to be the best time for me. And it's been scientifically proven. Because night is appropriate for the giving rest to the brain. When a person wake up early in the morning, his/her body, mind and soul keeps prepared for taking the load of study and reading becomes easier to remember. Dawn is the best time for study. Have a nice day.

I preferred studying at night. This is probably because I like staying up late at night and I guess I have this belief that studies especially for exams should be done at night. However, I realised that sometimes I study better early in the morning after waking up and fresh. So I study at night, when I get tired or stuck, I go to sleep and wake up really refreshed to study more.

When I was at college, at night worked better for me. Then I could take as long as I wanted to. In the AM, I had to get ready for classes and go to them. My classes started at 8 AM. So got up at 6, took a shower and did clothes by 6:30. Then went to breakfast for 7. Finished breakfast by 7:30, then walk to class for 8. I was not about to get up before 6, that would make me tired all day. So no time, most semesters in the AM to study. Now one semester, I had afternoon and evening classes. My first class was one PM and my last one finished at 8PM. So I didn't have much study time at night, but I did in the morning that semester. So part of it has to do with your college schedule and the hours you keep. I like in bed by 9 PM (21 hundred hours) and up by 6 AM (6 hundred hours).

Before I usually cram a lot when it comes to studying for an exam. I don't usually study 3 days or 2 days ahead the examination date. I usually study at dawn, conditioning myself first at night. After a good sleep, that's the time that I study. I feel like it's kind of renewing and makes me in the mood to fill my mind with stuff :)

I think the best time for studying depends on your own personal body clock. From my experience, people are either morning people who can get up and be alert first thing in the morning and others are night time people who can stay up late and be alert after everyone else has gone to bed. When I was at school, I never studied anything in the morning, always at night and I was never that successful. I now realise that I am a morning person. I can get up very early each day without an alarm clock and my mind is alert straight away and I can focus on tasks. If I try to stay up late at night and try to read or anything, then I start feeling drowsy. My wife is the opposite. She cannot function in the mornings until she has been up for a while and never gets up early but she can stay alert reading until past midnight every night easily.

It depends on the person's biological clock; some do better as morning persons, others as night owls. As for me, though cramming is usually the final option, I prefer spaced learning to mass learning, so I review a little at a time first, then when I'm at "do or die" time, I start the cram. I review material the night before and then again in the morning to cover all bases.

i used to study late night but regularly. Many of my friends used to enjoy most of the time before exam and running behind good students for help and worst thing studying whole night to get good marks. I used to study 2 hrs a day minimum and never spent a night on study whether its exam time or not. regular study works for me and I can remember things better.

When I was in college, I liked to review the night before the exam and a few hours before the test. That way, the material would already be reviewed and fresh in my mind when I took the actual test.

in learning, one rule does not apply to all, even to many. one practice, neither. there is what they call a learning grid, where an individual has the highest degree of comprehension at a certain time in a day. if you know this, this is better followed than the early morning or late at night learning or reviewing schedule. besides, if you study your lessons diligently and regularly, you don't to review or cram for an examination.

I used to think studying at dawn is more effective because one can remember more after sleep. however, I realised I need to drag myself to wake up. so am I fresh? No. How about studying late night? I only realise that I am studying in my sleep. does anything get in? I not too sure. Unless it went into the subconsciousness. My conclusion : Neither is effective. It is more effective through regular revision and treat exams as attending class at any normal day.

When I was still studying, i found that getting up early and studying before going to school worked for me. But that is only for review which meant I already knew the stuff and I just had to refresh my memory. If I don't really know what I'm trying to study, I have to spend more time on it, and getting up early might not be enough. But you're right it's probably because the mind is fresh after resting and sleep that makes it easier to absorb information.

A good question I like to respond. One should sleep during night and should get up in the dawn and should study. At that time there will be calmness as there will be no commuters in the outside world and mind will be ready take anything inside. Also I suggest student should keep Battery operated tap recorder and they should record while studying in the tap recorder and whenever they watch TV or play games or sleep they should keep the play tap recorder on and let the ear to listen that tap recorded subject matter. In this way they can record the entire subject recorded in their mind. This will make the students to get very good marks and also that will keep their studying a pleasant.

mmm, lets me think,, i used to study the previous day before the exam, esopecially when the time didnt enough to studdy.. this hhappened me on the teoric of math, i couldnt learn it before because i was studing for others subjects, and i didnt spend tme to study this,, so i woke up like 4 hours previous to the exam and started to study or try to said the same a lot of time like a parrot, and this helped me,, i know that study the previous day or the same day is bad because the phrase said "if u dindt learn and study until the previous day to the exam, you woudnt learn the previous day"... but in my case wasnt this... i have a lot of friends who doesnt study the previous day, because they say that catch her/his attention and perhaps would make to forget the things their learnt.. others who didnt study until the previous day and then just read one pages and then go to the exam and pass it, i couldnt understand how they did it, for me is impossible, i dont know if is it good luck or just they had good visual memory or i dont know what, but i coudnt do this.. i hate when this happen, because theere are a lot of people who study all the holidays and then go to the exam and fail it, and exzist some people like i said before who doesnt study because they didnt like to study and prefer to do other things, and then go and pass it, and said then to the people who lost it "i didnt study nothing, i think that i have a good a*ss and this was my luck".. when they said it, makes me have and want to kill them, because is frustated listen it altrough u know u studied too hard... this is my experience, and this is just i would say.. i apreciated your discussion and thanks for asking my friend! have a ncie day
