Well when i started mylotting seriously i always wondered what the star before the names of the peolple meant .. I got to know it was the reputation of the member on Mylot. And the higher the number the better. when i reached my hundred post i go my own reputaion point i was 6 on it but then ithought that its was such low value how could i improve it ... i constanly check my reputation points and try to improve on it .. Do You????

If I said that I don't care about mine it would not be the truth but mine got a bashing a year ago after a misunderstanding and it is going to take ages and a lot of help from my friends to get it back to where it was. There are some users here who use the rating system for voting rather than rating. That is not how it should be used at all. They do themselves more harm than good too. I just have to put up with the damage that they did and wait and hope for better days

I dont think that you should be that concerned over the reputation part if you know what happed with yours .. i think it is just there to tell us how we are faring out here on mylot. If your reputation is increasing then there is no need to wory at all...

hi! Yes, I really care about it and I even care for it much more than I care for my earnings, because I really care what others think about me, how they treat me- because you know that the reputation actually shows the meaning of the others about you and you discussions and posts- when it goes up, it means that people like you discussions/posts and rate them positive"+", but when it goes down, we are upset, because it means your posts are not god and people rate them negative "+" i always try to rate the people who post in my discussions, but we can only rate 11 members per day! So try to do the same, if you want to have a higher number

Wow, Lamb_Lies_Down, I thought it is 11 times per day, now I will rate all the members haha, really cool. Thanks for the information! WEll, apocalypse, as I have read once in some discussion, if your rate more people, then more people may rate you, and you actually don't lose anything when you rate!

Actually i'm kind of angry with this star thing. I know it is affected by others' rating of my posts, and i've been serious with whatever i post ever since i joined mylot. But what disappointed me is my star has never reached the highest. The best was nine but soon afterwards it dropped to eight and then seven. I'm wondering whether people are always rating my posts negative, and i'm even more curious about the reasons. Maybe i should just leave it there paying no attention.

Well Chenxiaoyue and rob i think that there are people who try to sabotage the ratings and it is this time that you should stop worrying about those people and continue what you are doing the way you are doing it. Being concerned about your post so that they get a positive feedback would reducethe amount of quality and originality in your content.. just my thoughts

Yes, I agree Chenxiaoyue. I don't know if I'm getting paranoid, but as I've said before, I think someone has followed me to my other posts and gave me a negative rating. Because I get a lot of positive responses when I respond to a post. But the political ones seem to be a problem.

It is the same for me. I have been looking forward to reach my 100 post to know how much I was rated, it came out to be a 5 and then the day after it was a 6 and the day after a 7, it took me 3 days to get my star to 8 and everytime that star changed I was always very happy, so yes I do care about my rating star, it means I'm giving a good contribute to mylot and so that I am doing well, next one is a 9 I hope that will come soon, but I guess it will depends on how much efforts I will put on my answers :)

Most of the old timers here at mylot will tell you that it does not matter much anymore. We are here even if we are only earning pennies after so many years, is for the reason that we are enjoying what we are doing here, sharing our thoughts, being friendly and learning from other people. it is quite addicting.

Agree with you completely on this point mylot does have a addictiong effect though i cant place it to one thing... i guess the thought of earning while doing great discussions does hold one to this site...

I've been on myLot for over 3 years. My star was red for a very short time more than 2 years ago. It went down to 7 and has stayed there religiously ever since. It bothered me until I found out why. The reason my star sits at 7 is because I always say exactly what I feel is true. There are times when responding to a controversial post that the truth must be shaded in order not upset the Poster. This I refuse to do! To me the truth as I see it must be told no matter what! Consequently I get down rated often enough to keep my Star at 7. I am proud of my record here on myLot. I see my 7 star as a badge of Honor!

Well i try not to be harsh with others but, always keep it in a simple manner.. maybe sometimes i must have been harsh or something but i try to be truthful and always put out my feelings.... I like being honest but one can certainly feel how the others are feeling

I'm always saying what I think, and I can be harsh with others (I'm harsher with myself). I'm sure that you can have a good ranking here and stay honest with yourself. What I despise is double speaking.

I don't focus on the number, but I would much rather be "liked" here on MyLot rather than disliked. I really would like to see people see my name in discussions and want to read them, rather then ignore them.

I don't worry about it too much because it's beyond my control to a great extent. I just focus instead on writing what I think are good posts. People choose to rate up and down for a variety of reasons -- including reasons they're not supposed to take into account -- and I know I'll never please everyone.
• India
7 Mar 10
I have never really cared as to what the people rate me as i contine to post only the things that i think are right yes maybe people think otherwise but its a hard thing to change..

Hi, echomonster. I agree with you on the point that our star is something beyond our control as we can never expect to please everyone. What we can do is to always express ourselves truthfully.

I do care about it to some extent, and it does frustrate me when my rating drops for no apparent reason. It does not bother me enough to lose sleep over or even to really think about it when I am not on myLot, though. It also does not bother me enough to stop saying what I think just to get a higher rating, although I do try to nicely, politely, and respectfully disagree with people rather than doing it in a rude and offensive manner. I guess that the thing that bothers me the most is that when trolls negatively affect our ratings, it also affects our earnings. We only make pennies on here anyway, so it really does not affect them that much, but it is more the fact that they have that power, even as small a power as it is. I guess that probably is why they do it, though, because it makes them feel more powerful and in control than they really are both on-line and in the outside world.

I care to some degree. I don't put a whole lot of stock in the numbers or the rating system.... you can drop a very points very suddenly and then jump back the next day. I have a hard time keeping quiet when I see someone obviously lying... I will call them out on it. Once my score dropped by 3/100 just during the course of a discussion... then it bounced back up the next day. I think it is how members see YOU...not your number.

thats amazing from 3/100 you have jumped to 89/100.. i guess the reputaion of a person is a variable that fluctuates a lot..

yas i do worry about it . i love to have a good reputation and i am now at 9 stars and i am working hard to make it 10 . but i cant do nothing about it its only the rating i get from people in mylot that will earn me another star and make a 10 star . i will look at it daily and i will be longing for it become 10 . but i was happy that when i first got stars i got 8 stars . .

thas good i think that my reputation at '7' right now is a small number and would like to see it go up to a 8 or a 9 or enen a 10. after that i think it wont really matter as i will continue to work the way i am doing now.. I will be concerned though if it started going down..

I don't check it much. When I put the cursor over the star I see my reputation, but that's all, and I don't really do it on purpose. It's nice to know that people value you, and I have never rated anyone negative so far, but I think we don't need to be pressured by our rating. We are doing all our best, isn't it? h
• India
8 Mar 10
Well we are doing our best here so there should be no problems. also i think one can do better thatn what one is currently doing.. But i think you are right too.. if one know that he is giving his best there would be concern if the rating drops a bit, it will come up .

Hello, I was never obsessed with that reputation thing. I just use myLot in creative purpose. I want to share my views with people here. I wanna help where I think I can. It is a great place for sharing opinions, having friendship with like-minded people. I submit positive posts, but I never forced it. It comes out spontaneously, as I am actually positive minded. To say good words you have to be good. To say something nice one actually needs to be kind. I just be myself here, and don't think about the rest. God bless you

I'm very much concern about mylot reputation...it indicate how the persons is good in creating and posting the discussion..once times my rating has decrease from 9 to 8 and i feel very em brassing to see that and i start to do quality discussion and after two days i got 9 rating on mylot...then i feel very gracious...

well it is, the reputaiton change colors very quickly of a now member i think but once you are a known face here on mylot i guess it will attain a fixed value for a long time.
7 Mar 10
I care about it but that is just probably becuase I've not been here too long. Once I get to 10 I will be happy, but then if I lose it well, never mind it's not such a big deal.
